Henry Melton
I was reading a certain football publication that focuses on Texas football, and the rushing stats from last year caught my eye:
RUSHING GP Att Avg TD
--------------------------------------
Charles, Jamaal 12 156 5.3 7
Young, Selvin 12 137 4.3 7
Melton, Henry 13 45 4.3 6
I know the reason many of us were down on Henry - he failed miserably in several crucial short-yardage plays. But overall the stats aren't that terrible. He had the same average and one less TD than Selvin and JC each had. I also realize some of that was garbage time, but still I think we should cut him some slack.
Hopefully he'll excel at DE after he serves whatever suspension he gets. He had great promise in '05, and I still think he got robbed in that Ohio State game.

The issue isn't...
...that he was robbed against Ohio State. The issue here is that had he run with his head down - north/south, not east/west - he could have put that defensive back into the hospital.
What pisses me off more about Melton is in last year's K-State game if he had run forward instead of dancing behind the offensive line, there never would have been a 4th and Goal... no McCoy sneak... no shoulder injury... and two wins against K-State and A&M.

His mind says "I'm Barry Sanders"
but his body says "I'm a chest-of-drawers"
Unless you can change what his mind thinks, he shouldnt be a running back.

I'm with you, Longhorn13
Melton simply didn't know how to run the ball. Running backs are expected to use their skill sets to move the ball down the field. Hank thought he was a 190 pound back who runs a 4.4 and who can beat everyone to the corner. But in reality he weighs 270, and he should have used his body to plow through the line to pick up the 1st/TD. He just didn't play the way he was made to.

If this guy listened to one day of coaching...
... he'd be splitting carries with Jamaal Charles this year, 50/50 or at least 40/60.

there were 2
Both were 20-something yard TD runs, and both got all of us very excited at Hank's potential. And then last year happened, and the rest is history.

is he supposed to get any pt at rb this year?

nope.
Pretty sure Mack moved him to DE permanently. Plus, there seems to be an over-abundance of talent (if not experience) in the current RB crew.

not to mention
there was also talk of Sergio taking over the role of short-yardage/3rd down back, in addition to Chris O. Plus, if Melton ever touches the ball as a member of the offense again, GD will never see the end of my hate mail.
