Today is Durant Day!

I'm assuming we'll have highlights on ESPN, but hopefully they will have some youtube redux or something. Apparently the next game will be a webcast.

Last time I checked,
Oden had like 8 points and four fouls.

it was worse than that...
6 points and 2 boards in 20 minutes. oh, and 10 fouls.
yeah, that's right. 10. summer league rules don't foul you out until you get 10. and oden got 3 in the first 3 minutes. meanwhile, lamarcus (which i hear is french for "the marcus") had 26 and 11.
oh, and at one point, some guy on the celts launched a 3 or a long-range jumper or something and oden inexplicably swatted it away as it got to the basket for an obvious goaltending. it's like he forgot he was playing an NBA(-ish) basketball game or something. if you can catch a replay, it's totally bizarre.

What's with the interview
with Oden after the game? They kept giving him every excuse in the book for a flat performance. "Was it the refs, are you not feeling well, nobody loves you?"
LA and Oden are going to be the next twin towers. Portland could be very good this year.

I saw the highlights on ESPNnews
He got blocked on the first shot, but was pretty much unstoppable once he found his flow. The low post moves look even more unstoppable in the pros. Who do you gaurd him with?
Next Wednesday the Sonics are apparently on webcast. I haven't been able to find where, but maybe that will be apparent on the Sonics website next week.

The best performance of the rookies
Durant looked very good in stretches, especially when posted up on the lower block against smaller defenders who weren't able to deal with his height and quickness.
"It was good to get back out on the court and under the whistle," Durant said. "I had good shots [in the first quarter], but in this game you can't make every shot.
Asked what he would remember most about his first game as a pro, Durant answered: "That I was a little nervous in the days leading up to the game, but I was nervous for every game in college, too."
Oden was terrible. Nick Fazekas - not so much. Yi Jianlan? Foul.
So I wouldn't worry too much about this first game.

Oden is a defensive presence
With the exception of dunking the ball, I don't think he's going to be much of an offensive threat his rookie year.
Durant just needs to get stronger, so he can improve his defense.
His light stature means he'll get pushed around some inside, but that's a common problem for young players entertin the NBA.
Once he gets a good personal trainer and his body matures, he'll be fine.

Also,
Oden seems like a genuinly good guy. When K-smoove goes down as the next MJ, I hope Oden is remembered as a Hakim Olajawon rather than a Sam Bowie. The way he carries himself has turned me into a fan, and I hope he and The Marcus kick ass for the next decade.

Oden and The Marcus
... are the front line of the future for Portland. You have to at least root for Oden to help LA reach his true potential as a super scorer. It'll be tough to decide which team to root for when the Sonics take on the Blazers. Amazing that Texas had the #2 draft pick two years in a row, and Texas still isn't mentioned as a basketball hotbed.

new Durant article
on si.com, link on their homepage says "Durant way off the mark again"
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/200...
While he was 4-19 (FG) and struggled in the first half, it goes on to say that he scored 18 points total, 11 in the 4th quarter, including a 3-pointer and 6 straight free throws.
I mean, how many guys score 18 points in their 2nd game as a pro, with a brand new team and coach? Give the kid a break. "Way off the mark" - whatever.
