Howdy from a northern outpost

Having read about and seen the responses on about 15 sports blogs, I finally found one that is truly awesome - this one! I really enjoy the mix of X's and O's, worrying, and humor. I already learned a lot from making comments on the site for a week, such as what is up with zone blocking and the spread offense. I'm a "born and bred Texan," originally from San Antonio, but I left the state as a place of residence permanently 27 years ago. I was a Longhorns fan from about the time I was old enough to wear cowboy boots and am old enough to remember watching the Shootout in Fayetteville in 1969 on our old black and white 12" TV but young enough to have generated a two-foot vertical jump when Vince Young ran in that 4th and 8 in the Rose Bowl. My aunt used to sew the uniforms for the UT cheerleaders back in the early 70's. From places as far away as Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan, California, the Netherlands, and even Tanzania and South Africa, I've kept track of the Longhorns.

I'm now following the Longhorns from the rusted (not rustic) retreat of Syracuse NY, where the only thing worse than the weather after October is the football team of my place of employment, Syracuse University. For my birthday this year, my wife, who hates football and must have had a mental flatline that could only be love, signed us up for the sports channels I need to see almost all the UT games this year (I think I can survive without seeing the Arkansas State game). So I'm ready to go - I only hope the 'Horns are, too.
