Countdown To Football Season: 28 Days
Our daily countdown to the return of Texas football continues with yet another reason to love the fall in Austin.

In 28 days, Texas' new secondary will gets its first shot at improving the miserable numbers from a year ago. Somewhat surprisingly, the chatter in the stands has Brandon Foster 15 pounds lighter and playing better football than he ever has.
Better known as Tweedle Dee around these parts, Foster actually played well in the Alamo Bowl and is the most experienced cornerback vying for playing time this fall. Whether he can perform well enough to hold off the young talent coming up behind him remains to be seen, but whoever is manning the corners for Texas this fall will be scrutinized closely all season long. Too many Texas fans are terrified of another disaster in the secondary.

hmm
This photo draws my eye to the giant, celebrating Buckeyes in the background. But Brandon Foster is cool, too.
i'm confident in saying...
there's no way we'll be as bad in pass defense as we were last year.

i pretty much agree
Things sometimes have a way of working out in a paradoxical manner from what initial evidence may suggest. Perceived strengths, as the season progresses, often turn into weaknesses, and the converse is also true. Tennessee winning it all after peyton manning leaves; the seattle mariners winning 116 games after the departures of a-rod, ken griffey and randy johnson. I mean, who would have guessed at the start of last year that the relative weaknesses would end up being the secondary and the running game, and one of the biggest strenths the play of the freshman qb.

Blue Ribbon CFB Yearbook
I may have missed if there was a discussion about the 2007 Blue Ribbon Yearbook on here already since I'm just checking in from summer, but the 3 questions (synopsized) they list for Texas this year are:
- Secondary - since the Longhorns' run defense looks strong, the new players in the secondary need to step up early to take away the pass threat
- OLine - talent-heavy, experience-not so much - and they need to not only pass block but also provide a legit run threat, not only for scoring potential but also for...
- Keeping Colt healthy - since neither of his backups has been on the field for UT, the Longhorns have to protect Colt and also hope Harris or Chiles can lead if called on
Good luck with your season, BON!
Speaking of our secondary....
You know that "God" in silver and purple that totally decimated our secondary last year. Come on, you know who I'm talking about, Andre Ware immediately fell in love with him when he saw him take the field, wanted to have his children...you know Josh Freeman, the man that invented the light bulb, the internet, the game of college football itself, and will own every record possible by the time he graduates on both offense and defense.
Well...turns out Josh has been curling a few too many doughnuts and not runnig enough suicides during his down time. Check the link.
