michigan has me worrying..
I know our defense is better than Michigan's but after watching what happened today, I think every team's fanbase has started to become a little wary of their opening games. Ironically, this upset came just hours after Herbie bashed teams for scheduling cupcake teams on College Gameday.
I'm ready
Back from the ND-GT game, which was over at halftime, by the way. I'll have a full report on the ND game experience sometime soon.
For now, though? I'm in full Texas mode.
Half hour 'til kickoff. Is it wrong to start a chant?
TEXAS!
Missouri in trouble now.
Illini have scored 21 in a row; now 37-34 Missou.
Over 14 minutes remaining. This seemed over, but no...
ESPN Gameplan
This is the first year I've had the GamePlan package. I'm in football heaven.
F-ck I'm excited. Let's get it on!!
pay per view bites!
Is anyone else incensed by having to pay a cable company to watch the Longhorns.
Did you know tht before Mack Brown LOnghorn fans were able to watch all games on local television.
Now thanks to politics and big money a lot of true blue longhorn fans are being left in the dark because we cannot get what few tickets are available or do not have cable.
HOW RUDE!!!!!
Does Mack not make enough money alreasy that he cannot use his political powers to make sure that ALL fans can watch the Longhorns and not just the selected few with deep pocket.
by orangebloodleaann on Sep 1, 2007 5:46 PM CDT reply actions
Not up to Mack
It's a conference rule. The Big 12 contract states that games which aren't picked for regular TV slots must be pay-per-view events only.
You're right...
It's not up to Mack, it's up to local television stations to pick up the game. KDFI is running King of the Hill and Seinfeld...
You think you're pissed?
Time Warner in Dallas doesn't even have the game on Pay Per View
Even worse
Is having to pay to listen to the game on the radio. Where I live, the AM reception on 1200 & 1300 is too faint, so I have no choice but to stream on the internet. But no, the stations carrying the game live are not allowed to stream Longhorn sports because they have a deal with Yahoo. Screw 'em all.
i'm in denver...
and have cable....i'm pissed off that i dont even have the option to watch the game. resorting to watching live updates via Gamecast and in this thread. Can't wait for the replay on texassports.tv

YES
The pay-per-view works.
I've not been happy about paying $30 to watch this game, but right now? At this moment?
I'm fucking ecstatic.
LET'S PLAY FOOTBALL!
whoa...
good run by chase daniels...but he took a big hit. let me know when kickoff starts so i can shut up about other games.

weird...
Gamecast wasnt updating....Ticker on ESPN said Ark State 3 Texas 0....thank god it was a goof.
Was that TD on 1st down?

SWEED!!!!
35 yard TD to Sweed!
Fucking brilliant look off from McCoy, perfect pass and we're rolling.
Descriptions
The more descriptive all you with tv coverage can be, the better. I know I will really appreciate it.
Texassports.com
Anyone else having issues with the texassports live stats??.... Still says the game has not started.
Oh, the vaulted aggie D eats shit again.
Toooooooo bad.
Bobino blows up run play
Just darted right through the middle. Exactly what you want your MLB to do.
gamecast is slacking...
still displaying the TD drive summary....on tv missouri just intercepted the Illini at the 1 yd line.

No huddle
Texas running a no huddle offense, letting Colt read the defense, call a play, and go with what he likes.
Smart offensive gameplan. We're taking simple passes to Quan and Nate underneath, using our superior athletes to pick up yardage.
As I type this, Charles dropped for a loss on 3rd and 3. Run game looking so-so right now.
Horns punt with McCoy in the shotgun on 4th and 8.
good call...
able to down inside the 5...
lets get a turnover and return it for a TD please. c'mon defense.

anybody know why there arent any games on CBS today? no other SEC games or they dont televise non conference SEC games? i know the US Open was on earlier, but it's over now.

TD!
Colt to Antwaan Cobb in the flat for a 20 yard TD after a great punt return from Quan.
McCoy 7-7 so far.
OU
OU is going with a lot of bubble screens. What an awful play call.
Okam wham bam.
Sacks when you need them are manna from heaven.
Missed FG
Texas takes back over.
Guarantee you Texas tries to establish the run on this drive. I'll be interested to see what GD goes for on this series.
KSU-Aub update...
big return on opening kickoff by kansas state...1st and 10 on the 50.

UGA Touchdown
Play before the touchdown the receiver appeared to step out around the 30 and they gave it to them at the 5
Whoops
Texas has the ASU receiver smothered and just misplayed the ball. 20 yard gain. ASU moves to their own 40
I wanna see Chiles...
Hopefully we can get a stop here and put up a quick score so he gets play time this half...

Chicken S
Block
Under center
Texas hands to Charles from under center to Charles - picks up 20. Called back on holding penalty - Tony Hills.
Incomplete
Sweed breaks short, McCoy throws long. 4th and 7, Texas going for it.
Freaking gorgeous pitch and catch from McCoy to Limas. Unstoppable.
By the way
Sweed just fell hard on his left wrist and is in on the next play for a reverse (no gain). He appears to be healthy.
It still seems like Horns aren't running well
No seeing the game, so hard to tell, but seems like shades of yesteryear.
Damn, int.
Orakpo
Right knee injury. They are icing it down right now.

Do we have a new enemy of the nation for that block?

Frustration
Is watching this game as frustrating as listening to it?
false starts/delays of game
are these due to the north end zone noise, or is it on the other side of the field?

HA!
Awesome - Akina drops DE Eddie Jones into a zone coverage and he picks it off in the end zone
INT in the endzone...

6.6 yards per play! holy shit that sucks. The Linebackers and Secondary is are just rolling over.
I imagine Akina's eyes are bulging

He better do something
He needs to light a bonfire under their asses
We're on pace to win 28-6
I'll take that. Who cares that we only scored 28? You know our offense is better than that. I'd be proud for just giving up 6. I don't care it's ASU.
by goingforthecorner on Sep 1, 2007 7:44 PM CDT reply actions
That's the spooky part.
I would figure they'll tighten it up and playing a lot of kids may account for some of that. But 500 yards means anything can happen, too.
And as a passing offense, you'd think the horns could put up 250 in their sleep. Ho hum.
Time to throw away the GDGD-I-love-you valentines.
432 yards to be exact

Colt needs...
150+ yards and atleast 2 more TDs with no more pics if he even wants to stay in Heisman consideration.
Texas like all teams can start the season slow. They should come out of the locker rooms with a fresh outlook and be able to put up 45-50 total points. I hope so.

New o-line for Auburn.
I picked KSt just for that reason. All things being relatively even, a new O-line causes more problems than any other weakness, other than inexperienced QB.
And they aren't out of the woods yet; they're at Auburn.

kstate
is looking like they might just pull out a win. the game isnt over yet but they are looking much better than they did last year. i still think we are going to run the table in the north but they will be a challenge. ie morso a challenge than mizzou will be. just my opinion but kstate at least has a D and a little bit of offense. its going to be a good year.
by huskerbrent on Sep 1, 2007 8:57 PM CDT reply actions
is it just me?
i really do not think that the sec is the best conference in the country. they always seam to struggle with the big 12. who knows i guess it is just a matter of opinion, but i just have to think that we are better than the sec.
by huskerbrent on Sep 1, 2007 9:01 PM CDT reply actions
Like in the Cotton Bowl last year?
When has the SEC particularly struggled against the Big XII?
funny......
im not necessarily saying that the sec loses to the big 12 all of the time but i am saying that it always seems like they at least struggle and in most of the close games that i watch between the 2 conferences the sec tends to get some lucky breaks to end up winning the game. ie the cotton bowl last year.
by huskerbrent on Sep 1, 2007 9:08 PM CDT up reply actions
Cotton Bowl
Is usually the fourth best team or so from the SEC against the second best from big twelve ... Auburn finished third in its own division last year. Nebraska played for B12 title. It SHOULD be a tight game
agreed
and neb was either the 2nd or 3rd best in the b12 behind oklahoma and possibly texas depending on how you look at it. and if it werent for a couple of bad calls by callahan and not having a fg kicker that could kick past 40yds (not a problem anymore) we probably would have won that game.
once again its just my opinion but i dont really see why people think that the sec is all that great. i mean LSU and Florida are clearly better than the rest of the teams in the conference.
good discussion though
by huskerbrent on Sep 1, 2007 9:17 PM CDT up reply actions
ah, no
Auburn's offense is not very good. Kansas State should hang with them. It's going to be a low-scoring game.
Georgia, OTOH, handled Okie State fairly well.

Not the whole story, of course; being pushed to the wall often helps a team.
Jesus
There's a lot of work to be done to this team, if we don't want to lose to OU.
- The secondary is still leaving receivers wide open.
- Charles needs to stop running east and west so much. He's taking too much times trying to find a hole.
- Colt needs to lead his receivers more.
- Enough with the game-changing penalties.
On the plus side of things, I like the look of the spread, and Sweed is going to have a very nice year. Also, our D line is pretty damn good.
if we dont want to lose to OU????
more like, if we dont want to lose to TCU
by bleed burnt orange on Sep 1, 2007 9:30 PM CDT up reply actions
I think we'll win that one.
But have you watched any of UNT/OU? We were all wondering how good OU's offense was going to be, with the QB situation. They've hung 77 on UNT so far.
They're looking for those Michigan votes.
And trying to erase the sting of Boise State. Even if they put up a hundred, it won't stop the chortling, but Michigan will not get most of the giggles.
Besides, if you score that much, there's no where to go but down.
The bad thing is..
We were TRYING to put up more than 21 points and couldn't.
True.
We wanted to get the back-up QB in and didn't.
We wanted to convert a fourth and goal and didn't.
We wanted an o-line like 2005 and we didn't get it.
We wanted to see a shut down defense and didn't.
However, if you wanted some serious butt chewing, somewhere they're getting it tonight. They have a lot of work between tonight and next Saturday.
Of course, the greatest improvement a team makes is between week one and week two. Very serious week coming up; suddenly the season is TCU.
21-13 wtf
cal up 38-21 btw
we better fix this scoring problem fast...
Total yards 402 ASU/343 Texas
that is inexcusable
cant punch it in on 4th and 1.

Four straight games where UT hasn't played up to its potential.
You're right about that.
Skating on thin ice.
Whenever Mack and his crew put their heads together, they didn't figure out anything that worked, so it seems. Same ole...
Foolish hopes
Yeah, that was wrong.
Why is he still starting?
Same with Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum--I thought with all I'd heard in camp, maybe they'ed improved. But they were just as out of place as normal. Dee in particular made an infuriatingly awful play on the first onside. To not even go for the ball!?!! WTF!?!!

I never watch recruiting too close
but I wonder if Stoops has something against Todd Dodge. Aside from the fact he is a Texas ex. And now in the future post-Brown sweepstakes.
Silver lining
Ark St hung with Texas blow for blow...Texas will refocus for TCU and play better football. Maybe the blowout that everyone was expecting won't come until next week.
well that was pathetic
maybe mack should've focused on doing a little more yelling and a little less contract extension talking. that's embarrassing whether we win the rest of our games or not. maybe greg davis should've worked less on his diet and more on his actual job. everyone else looking in on the national championship pasted the shit out of whoever they played today (no...despite espn's va tech pep rally today...they don't factor into the picture).
Sick to the stomach
This is not good - sure, call me Captain Obvious. This feels to me like the game some years ago where we scored 28 points on North Texas pretty quick and ended with 28 points (back in the Simms' era). We got handed our tails by OU shortly thereafter.
Sorry brother and sisters, but there's no way UT should be ranked #4 after this. I don't know what the number should be, but that doesn't matter nearly as much as UT's performance previewed (without significant improvement) an ability to lose many games this year starting with TCU next week.
Colt needs to grow A LOT from this game. There were a number of passes last year that were "almost" INT's but he was bailed out by super WR efforts or drops. That happens to all QB's here and there, but multiple times to Ark. St.??? Coaching problems??? Um, yeah!
Want a fringe disappointment??? This only further discourages UT from scheduling tougher non-conf opponents in the future. All of a sudden Ole Miss in 2012 looks like scheduling Michigan ... oops! ... bad example!

damn guys....settle down
this isn't the pros. This IS college's pre-season.
Let's not start tit-baggin' yet...
whoa, whoa, whoa
I may have been the first to say (on this thread) that we need to make some changes.
But let's not all throw in the towels at once. Yes, we DO need to make some changes. A win is a win (even a 21-13 pathetic win vs ArkSt). We can hold every right to say these things because we have higher expectations of the Longhorns. We SHOULD have beaten them 79-10, but it didnt happen. We DO need to make changes and FAST, but let's not all go jumping off a cliff. The season is not over to any team in the country ('cept maybe Michigan), and with quality showings/wins against TCU and OU we will remain in the national title hunt.
TEXAS!
