Programming Note
Today's morning notes, as well as the defensive review of TCU, will be afternoon affairs.
We'll conclude today with TCU wrap up and then start to turn our attention toward next week's opponent, Central Florida. As noted in one of the diaries, most of us don't know much about UCF. What we do know is that Saturday's game will be the first-ever in the team's new stadium in downtown Orlando, that George O'Leary is the team's coach, and that... well, that's about it. We've got lots to learn.
I can promise a nice write up on what to do in Orlando if you're one of the Longhorn fans making the road trip. Joel from RBR assured me this summer that there's a lot to like about the city if you avoid the touristy destination spots.

The announcers...
Was it just me, or were the announcers eerily reminiscent of Al Michaels and John Madden? I could've sworn that the big guy went to the John Madden school of color commentating. Trying to compare that guy to John was the only thing that prevented me from snapping during that first half.
Also, PHF, you asked in an earlier diary if Michigan's 0-2 start would deter its 2 stud Texas recruits...one of them is Darryl Stonum, who is from my high school, Dulles, in Sugar Land. Dulles just sent two of its '07 recruits over to Michigan, so it would seem like Coach Creech has a good relationship with the Michigan athletic department. I'd be surprised if Stonum decommits from there.
Furthermore,
does anyone find it slightly ironic that the consensus top 3 teams in the country right now are USC, LSU and OU, only this time, OU is currently on the outside looking in?
I find LSU
being heralded for beating up on a Virginia Tech team that simply wasn't very good a bit disgusting. ESPN kept driving the motivation for VaTech after the campus attack in the spring so hard in the offseason, people must have forgotten the only decent thing about their team lately being Ore. And he didn't do so great.
All that being said, I don't mind people rating LSU high for demolishing a DECENT team. They have a great D and if they keep doing well, I'll be happy for them. But I'd like to see them play a real team.

Re:
It's hard to say whether VT is good, decent or bad at this point in the season. But a thorough thrashing by LSU says a lot more about the Tigers than just about any other win this season. The only other games that would have to be on this list would be App State's win, which is inconsequential to the National Championship picture, and Cal's win, which was less impressive than LSU's.
The truth is an LSU offense that plays as a serious second fiddle to its heralded defense made Foster's unit looked like gumbo. The Tigers had touchdown drives of 87, 85, 67, 76, 87 and 94 yards. LSU's offense didn't go three-and-out all night. The Tigers had 18 plays for 10 or more yards, eight for 21 or more yards, including scoring plays of 67, 34, 32, and 28 yards. - Roanoke Times via Bruce Feldman
I don't know about you, but I'm pretty damn impressed with that LSU team. Regardless of how good or bad VT turns out to be at the end of the year, they were at that point ranked #9 in the nation, ACC champion favorites and a fringe National Championship contender.
And in any case, VT should be better, now that they're replacing the absolutely atrocious Sean Glennon at QB.
I concur
LSU is impressive.
I stayed up to watch the replay of this game after the Texas game (that made 16, count'em, 16 straight hours of football), and this game was never in doubt, even during the opening kickoff.
Side note: it was disgusting to see Perrilloux play. Lots of players don't get second chances anymore, if you commit a serious offense, you're off the team. This guy's on something like his 4th chance, I believe.

Defensive Review
PB, I'll be interested to see your review of the Defense's performance against TCU, in particular the DE's. Do you think the Bon'ers' favorite head case Henry Melton has cost himself any shot at making the DE rotation with his summer indiscretions, given the very impressive sack delivered by young Mr. Acho on Saturday?

Although I'm not PB...
Yes, he did--we have some serious talent at the ends--even with Orakpo out not a step was missed at that position against TCU.
Re:
Way to go, Michigan.
As for the Wolverines, three recruits at Saturday's Oregon-Michigan game, left Ann Arbor saying they wanted to play for Oregon, according to John Canzano.
Via Bruce Feldman (Insider).
The lesson, as always, is that Adrian Peterson wanted to win National Championships at OU. So ask him how that turned out.
Interesting
I asked in a different thread if this sad start will have any impact on the two Texas studs Michigan has landed thus far - Daryl Stonum and Sam McGuffie.

Re:
I'm with you there
I think they should both stick to UM. By the time they get to campus, the Wolverines will have a new coach and Mallett will be firmly in control of the offense.

Re:
MGo is already hunting for a new coach. His first choice? Jeff Tedford.
I'm just a linking machine today...
Ouch
hopefully the Ann Arbor press will censor that little fact from public knowledge.
No need to pile on.
