BlogPoll Ballot, Week 2
Once more, we take a stab at ranking college football's top 25 teams - no easy task after just two weeks. I'll note again that a team's resume is what I'm looking at most closely, though after two weeks, to say this is ballot is based purely on resume is simply inaccurate. There's still some projecting and subjective guessticating going on here.
With each passing week, though, my subjective opinions will continue to carry less weigh in the rankings, as team's on-field results take greater importance.

Gross.
I know you have to be objective and fair and all that, but
2 Oklahoma
Eeeeeeeeewwwww. That's just disgusting. It's like spiders crawling up my legs seeing that here. It'll make their fall from grace when we beat them so much worse, true, but still. Eeeeeeeewww.
I feel a little queasy, too
Still, it's good mojo to pump up your opponents and downplay your chances against 'em.
Good mojo
I see you also graduated from the Lou Holtz school of coaching.

Have you seen Lou these days
As Lou has shown, it's easy to carry those rules over to being a fan. And while I realize he is ostensibly an analyst and not a fan, I don't recall the last time he picked against Notre Dame. He picked them against Penn State for goodness sake.

Some good matchups will help sort this out...
USC-Nebraska
Florida-Tennessee
Alabama-Arkansas
GT-BC
OSU-Washington
And my upset special: Kentucky over Louisville.
Multiple Undefeated ?
So I am thinking there will be multiple undefeated teams this year. Who goes undefeated, who plays in NC?
In my head we will have at least 3 undefeated.
ODDS
- Texas/OU (winner of RRR goes undefeated)
- USC (Nebraska, CAL, Oregon, UCLA) lose any?
- LSU/Florida (Winner of this game goes undefeated)
- WV?
On the Contrary...
I would argue that all of those teams come out with a loss. The Texas/OU winner will have some difficult games down the stretch (and the Big 12 champ.), USC is riddled with challenging games, the SEC is always full of landmines, and West Virginia has road games at South Florida (a little more imposing now) and Rutgers. The parity this year is evident from the Pac-10 to the Big 12 to the SEC. The middle of the road teams seem to be more equipped for upsets. Sure USC, LSU/Florida, and OU/Texas are the most talented, but in any given week...
Penn State may have a good chance to go undefeated in a depleted Big 10 - home games against Wisconsin and Ohio State.

I'm gonna say it again...
Missouri #12? While their offense is good, their D has given up an average of 485 yds/game to a couple of mediocre (at best) teams. Not sure why Clemson made the big jump, either, just for beating an unranked (in your poll) FSU and ULM.
Georgia Tech
is flying under the radar a little, but right now I think they're the best team in the ACC by a fairly wide margin. They haven't really been tested yet, but all of the pieces look to be in place for a ACC title run. I think they play BC this week, so we'll learn a little more about the Ramblin' Wreck.
Why does Florida
Suffer for comfortably disposing of Troy? I think they should jump WVU, just because WVU will lose at least one game, I'm fairly sure at this point. All Big East teams are going to crash at some point. Rutgers has to drag Teel with them everywhere they go (Louisville will outscore them, I think). WVU and Louis. will drop one down the road to some team that has a good day against their defense and catches a break from their offenses. USF is not seriously going to beat them all. If you look at these teams, the only thing that comes to mind is clusterfuck... Apologies.
My Gator pals
Tell me it was a bad, bad defensive effort.
It's all fluid though. If Florida dispatches of Tennessee, they'll get a nice resume bump.
One more question
Are you voting a "deserves to be #x" poll or a "predicted finish is #x" poll with this?
Morphing
Right now, we're in a bit of a hydra state, but we're moving quickly into a "deserves to be #x" situation. Within a couple weeks, the entire ballot will be constructed just on what teams have accomplished - not as any kind of a power poll.
Morphing into a hydra state
Kind of reminds me of what GD and Mack keep saying about our offense at press conferences.
Plus that's probably the funniest phrase I've read in two days.
I don't see how...
...anyone ranks anyone in the Big 10 with the big boys anymore. I don't remember the last time any of them have looked really good. Penn State is getting credit for crushing the 12th man of the Big 10, (ND), and Wisconsin is still dear to the hearts of the AP and coaches after almost being embarrassed by "one o' them new-fangled awf-fences," when we all know what will happen to all of these teams come bowl season: Blow up a balloon, then close your eyes and release the nozzle as you imagine the draft status of every Big 10 standout.
the HATED...
how do they JUMP usc?????
wtf???
just because usc didn't play... the HATED get's the nod to go ahead of them?? how does usc THE BEST TEAM IN THE NATION-just about everyone-slip to number three???

I agree
USC is still the best team in the country. Can't penalize someone for a bye week.

Don't sweat it
I think USC's better than LSU, too.
But LSU has two wins - one over a solid Virginia Tech team, while USC has one win over Idaho.
So it goes.
This isn't strict resume yet, but the resume counts. Again - this whole process is fluid. The ballots that really matter come in November.
LSU-UF
Somebody said whoever wins that goes undefeated. That means they would have beaten them twice (SEC title game, too) ... and to think, if Florida beats LSU twice, the second one wouldn't even count.
Granted, this is blog poll and doesn't count toward BCS rankings. But i'm glad AP/USA Today got it right by keeping USC at No. 1. Had they jumped LSU ahead of SC, then it would create an atmosphere where USC would feel it needs to beat teams by 40 every game
hmmm
something that some school beat NORTH TEXAS 79-10?? miami 51-13???
if they wouldn't have beaten those two teams with that size of margin of victory... they would be BEHIND texas, and not in front of us... so, basically ou got where they are because they beat UNT and miami by about an average of 50
so apparently margin of victory DOES come in to play... it's just to an extent though

Violence
We need more violence in our wins. More helmets flying off of receivers. More punters and quarterbacks writhing in agony. We must make Bradford piss blood and bleed turnovers. Pummel him into the shell of a quarterback that Bomar will always be. We should do to him what Albert Pujols did to Brad Lidge in the NLCS.
Crush his spirit.
End him.
Rankings...
I like the "fluidity of rankings". But you could really use that for the whole season.
Week 12: "This is merely a gathering of information and until we get more data, we wont know the real rankings yet. It's a work in progress."
In that case, here's mine.
#1 Texas
That is all. Until it's proven otherwise and despite any losses that may come, I will always rank them #1. Even after all the bowl games, because my end of season ranking will be my January pre-season prediction for 2008.
Seriously though. Rankings at this stage are meaningless BUT necessary. Necessary because goddamnit we say it is. I applaud your effort to blogpoll, though I dont agree with most of your rankings.
Hawaii at #24. That's what I've been talking about for a while now. Hopefully they dont blow out UNLV by 50 or they're bound to jump up to #4.

Couple quick thoughts
First, by week 12, I won't be able to rank any team #1 which isn't undefeated. Not likely, anyway, assuming there's an undefeated or two left.
Second, Hawaii, I'm afraid, won't be able to climb much higher than where they currently are, especially with Boise State's loss to Washington. Their schedule just won't allow for much climbing anymore. They'd have to really pummel all their opponents to climb.
My week 12 example...
was merely posed to say the ranking systems are constantly fluid (which I realize, they are).
As far as Hawaii goes, though. Was their #7 ranking really that much dependant on Boise State? And with the Broncos losing, does that justify a Warriors drop to #24?
I know it's probably more a combination of both, likely end Strength of Schedule AND Hawaii's poor performance against LaTech.
Saying they might not climb any higher after only week 2 is pretty short sided. What if they have exceptional performances against Fresno State, Boise State, and Washington? I don't think an undefeated Hawaii stays at #24. Maybe they dont climb as high as Boise State or Utah did in their BCS years, but I'm sure they'd climb above the middle of the pack BCS conference teams.
