I am a late comer to NCAA football, but my intensity and passion for the game is growing exponentially every year.
One of the issues that really gripes me, is that it appears that the NCAA feels little responsibility to support the student athelete. While there are many examples, what is chaffing my rear end today is the lack of protection of the college QB.
I first noticed the issue as a fan of Colt McCoy. I watched him take cheap hits - followed by late hits, followed by down right dirty hits. Not only were the players involved in these mugging not ejected, the vast majority of these flagrant violations were not even flagged.
Subsequently, I noticed that these are not isolated incidents. QBs from all over are hit after the ball has been delieverd. The strictness of the NFL rules - specifically designed to protect "helpless" players are not incorporated into the college game. Additionally, "helmet to helmet" hits are either not restricted - or not enforced.
Before you say that the NFL "puts dresses" on their QBs - watch the college QB after the throw. These kids are being exposed to cheap shots that have been virtually removed from the NFL with the strict enforcement and protection of helpless players.
