Oklahoma State

Right now, my preseason optimism about the Cowboys seems pretty far-fetched. They're losing 20-3 early in the 2nd quarter at Troy, and they simply don't look good at all.  I don't know whether Reid is hurt or not, but Zac Robinson is in at quarterback. We were all suspicious of their defense (which has been accurate to this point), but I just thought that their offense would be awesome. They have lots of talent on that side of the ball, but it appears that it's just not clicking. They did struggle at Georgia, but I think most people expected that that would be a very difficult game. I'm not saying that the 'Horns can now walk into Stillwater and expect to win easily, there's still a lot of time before the game for the Pokes to improve. I still think that their offense can explode at any given time (i.e. vs. Nebraska last year) However, I'm far less worried at this point about the game than I was before the season started. As I write this, Robinson throws a TD to Pettigrew to make it 20-10. Time will tell us how tough the Pokes will be this year, and most importantly, how well-tuned they are come November 3rd.

Good call

At the beginning of the year I thought heading up to Stillwater would be a bear of a game but watching so far they don't seem impressive.

For me, ou seems the team that is much better than I expected.  OSU and the argics don't look so hot but you're right, lots of time till we play those games.

Toby Keith is very fat

This is pitiful

I'm staying in tonight, cooking dinner, sitting down to watch some football, ready to check out the Pokes...

And we get this?

The defense still hasn't improved a lick.

Amazingly, Troy ran a fake punt from their own 15 yard line. That failed, and OSU scored 3 plays later to cut the deficit to 20-10. What happens next? OSU lets Troy rip off a 9-play, 80 yard scoring drive. 27-10.

Simply pathetic.

Yup

I will give Troy some credit, they (for what it's worth) are the best team in the Sun Belt and should win the conference. They did beat Missouri down there a few years ago, but I think I could assemble a team of 5th graders and get them to do more than what Pinkel gets out of his guys. But back to my point, they aren't a complete pushover, but damn..... And as for Reid, I heard the guys say that Gundy just decided to switch them. Joe Schad asked Gundy going into the locker room if there would be a QB change, and he said that they would stick with Robinson. Whatever... they just look like a mess.

Bobbie Reid...

can you imagine our offense with Bobbie Reid?

he squandered his future for teenage pride.

gundy sucks - you think Boone Pickens will let Gundy see 2008 if they lose to Troy?

WOW

just got back from the mets/phils game to check out the second half and seriously, what the hell?

i mean, i was definitely never on the OSU bandwagon,  but i figured they'd be better than last year.  somehow they regressed.

Troy's not a complete pushover.  They beat missouri at home a few years ago when mizzou was ranked.  You'd think that mediocre big xii teams would get the message and stop going on the road to Troy....

Billy Zane's secret identity
I've put together from a few of your posts that you are a criminal defense lawyer in NYC.  That is interesting to me because I am a criminal defense lawyer in NYC.  Who is that masked man?

you are, really?

i'm not actually a criminal defense lawyer.  corporate, actually.  I just spent a lot of time in law school (a summer in Atlanta at the capital defenders, a whole year in a defense clinic here in new york) working on criminal defense stuff.  just something that's important to me, despite the fact that i'm a total sellout.

oh, and my identity is no longer very secret on BON.  i'm clearly Matthew McConaughey.

not even as close as the score shows

currently 41-23 with 2 minutes left. this is only after 2 4th Q touchdowns by okie state. it was 41-10 early in the 4th and troy (550+ yards of offense!) had THREE possessions inside the red zone where they got zero points. this could be a 62-10 game.

also...

one of OSU's TD's in the 4th quarter came after they CLEARLY fumbled inside the 5 only to have it ruled down by contact and inexplicably not reviewed.

I am embarassed

I am embarassed to go to osu now. They have been talking up this season like a bigtime heavyweight fight, and it is funny to see this happen but embarassing to say I am apart of it. The kids on the okie state boards are going nuts right now. I dont think Gundy is going to be there long now, Boone will buy him out if they lose to the goons this season.

Didnt Chip Brown pick them

to win the big 12 south?

Technically, they still can, but I'm wondering if Chip wants a mulligan on that one.

Missing Weapons

The Cowboys were without Reid and their two top rushers, but still...  This is just flat-our embarassing.  I was picking OSU to finish 3rd in the South, ahead of aTm and Tech. At this point they will be lucky to avoid the basement.

Stillwater no longer looks like the trap game we all worried over before the season started. But following the TCU loss this week, this is another blow to our strength of schedule. It now looks increasingly less likely we'll make it to a BCS Bowl unless we beat OU and win the Big XII. Highly doubtful we'll be in the top 8 of the BCS standings even with just a single loss.

PHF, my friend, this is the difference between us

I'm always on you for going pessimistic.  Before we worry about a BCS bowl, let's see IF we suffer a loss; IF it's to OU (the only 'acceptable' loss, in BCS eyes, I'm sure); IF SO, by what margin; and IF other teams ahead of us drop unexpected games.  Week Three has barely started, we're still undefeated, and I'm still the rosy optimist.

Sun Belt, the new non-BCS power?

As odd as it is to type this, the Sun Belt has fared well in non-conference play.  Combine this win over the Cowboys with ASU's performance against UT and Middle Tenn's against Louisville, and you've got the foundation for a decent conference.
