Deja Vu

After three games, I just don't know how good (or bad) this team is.  I see flashes and potential, but verry little consistent, dominant play from any player or unit.  Some thoughts....

....The WR screen or bubble screen can be useful plays.  Cosby, Sweed and to a lesser extent Jones are capable of making someone miss and breaking one long.  But, for whatever reason, it has been largely called at predictable times and with marginal results.

....I thought we had Ferraris at WR.  So why are they driving them like Toyotas???  Isn't part of the advantage of the quick screen is that it is supposed to eventually lead to pump-faking the screen and hitting an All-American senior WR flying down field in single coverage??  When can I expect to see that one?  Are they saving it for K-State and OU??  Is it even in the playbook??

....As for Charles, most of his yards have come on a few long runs.  Because he is fast.  Like ludicrous speed.  But he also has many negative, zero and one yard runs.  His overall numbers are nice, but its not exactly the same as a back who averages similar numbers but is good for a consistent 4-5 yards per carry (Charles at 5.6 ypc).

....Most of the inconsistent and restrained offense is a result of an inexperienced and merely good to average O-line.  Charles is only putting up the numbers he is by getting his big yards on plays when he makes people miss and flies by and Colt is making most of his big throws on rollouts or on quasi-scrambles.

....The offense just seems too predictable and vanilla right now.

....The D-line is solid.  Giving up too much on the ground, but the pass rush has been good.  Getting Orakpo back will help even more.

....The level of play (athletically and fundamentally) at LB and in the secondary seems to be only slightly higher than the UCFs and ASUs.  A major liability.

...Not exactly awe-inspiring or fear-inducing.

....The 2000 or 2003 teams finished 9-3 and 10-3 respectively.  The were  7-1 in conference and finished the season #12 in the nation both times.  Those teams also lost to OU by allowing 63 and then 65 points and then went on to Holiday bowl losses against Pac-10 teams.

....Hell is mediocrity

...I am Jack’s hopeful optimism...
