Vince Young Open Thread: Monday Night Debut

Vince Young makes his Monday Night Football debut tonight in the Superdome in New Orleans, as the Tennessee Titans (1-1) take on the New Orleans Satints (0-2). The game kicks off at 7:30 p.m. Central on ESPN.

This is a tough MNF debut for Vince, as he'll have to take on the Saints in their home opener in what should be a raucous, rowdy, fired up crowd. And the Saints, expected to be contenders for the NFC Championship, will be hungry and desperate at 0-2.

And you remember the Saints' home opener last year? Also on Monday night? Against a team with a dynamic runner at quarterback?

I'll certainly be watching and rooting hard for VY, despite my love for Drew Brees and the Saints.

Enjoy your Monday night.

Drew many Beers for you tonight, PB

Sorry, had to.

By the way, LSU can be #2 if you give me a solid promise that Michigan will not rise above #20 even if they win the Big 11.

"So, the A and the M are just there so you aren't TU?"

Fixed

Thanks. I went to school with Drew through 7th grade, so it's hard ever to root against him. Gotta go with VY, though.

Michigan's not appearing on this ballot any time soon. Getting above #20 would take a dominant romp through the Big 10.

OKAYES! WE EVENS!

Quick!  Am I Jorvorskie Lane or the part of Grossman's brain that controls his throwing arm and legs?

Lovely

VY comes out on the first drive and goes 2-for-2 on his first drive for 35 yards

Pass was incomplete

but he looks on tonight, put it the only place where the receiver had a chance.

by Wells on Sep 24, 2007 7:57 PM CDT reply actions

Interesting

Vince Young's QB Rating in the 4th quarter last year was 106.3. And his 3rd down rating was 95.3.

Not that I'm surprised.

That does not count

the plays he makes on the ground.  They need a new formula for him.

by Wells on Sep 24, 2007 8:07 PM CDT reply actions

Uh Oh

Vince has got his 'everybody's looking at me' face on tonight. Look out - if Brees gets warmed up, this could be a MNF classic.

Jaworski is just the best, isn't he? Glad he finally got this job. He REALLY likes Vince, too.

What's with the time delay

on the player intros? The mouth sync was slow. That was a pre-recorded piece, so there shouldn't have been no surprises.

by whills on Sep 24, 2007 8:16 PM CDT reply actions

Nay. If they were really scared

they would have put the ball as far away from their goal as they could. [If you were talking about the NO try.]

by whills on Sep 24, 2007 8:21 PM CDT up reply actions

One could argue that

One option has about 99% chance of vince being back on the field and the other maybe 70% chance of having him back on the field, they went for 70.

Really I was just Joking.

by Wells on Sep 24, 2007 8:23 PM CDT up reply actions

ok. I'd give it 50-50.

And NO has no good history this season. And whatever they figured in general is going to hell quickly.

Like Dallas, Chow is attacking the seams in the middle.

by whills on Sep 24, 2007 8:26 PM CDT up reply actions

Perfect throw

Good run for the touchdown! This offense is on fire. They're only stopping themselves right now - the Saints ain't.

by beast in bama on Sep 24, 2007 8:22 PM CDT reply actions

You've got Reggie Bush

Why don't you have him returning kickoffs?

by beast in bama on Sep 24, 2007 8:27 PM CDT reply actions

GO SAINTS!

When it comes to the Titans, I'm a Young only fan (YOF). I hope he plays well but his team loses miserably.

As a Texans fan, I need as many AFC and especially AFC South teams as possible to lose. So in games where a NFC team is playing an AFC team, I obviously must root for the NFC team. Man the Saints suck this year.

I also like to see Brees do well, I worked for his dad for a while during college.  Great guy despite being a die hard Aggie.  VY looked sharp in the first half despite that on ill advised throw, which may have been a mix up on the route.  Good to hear it's only cramps though, the game is almost not worth watching without Vince.  Well, except for maybe some more Hall, Scaife, and great Griffin special teams tackles.

That's three series (aside from INT)

in a row where the Titans went two runs and pass on third. That's sure repetitious for pros.

USC on ABC

Just saw an add for USC vs Washington this Saturday night on ABC.  This will be the third week in a row USC gets the prime time slot in Austin.

NICE

Tough run by LenDale to get the TD. Nice drive by Vince and the Titans.

17-14. Let's go D

Vince in control

Amazing to watch Vince take over the Titans, just like he did for us.

He is a mega horse !

I'd rather you just say thank you and walk on by...

Nice, Vince.

Man he's played well tonight...

He just makes me smile, and that followed with Tirico giving the Horns some love on the Scaife-Young TD.

by TexHorn06 on Sep 24, 2007 10:12 PM CDT reply actions

he knows he's on MNF

so you KNEW the man would come up large. glad to see that he's taking advantage of the showcase, a lot of people are learning he's the real deal tonight.

by the chairman211 on Sep 24, 2007 10:15 PM CDT reply actions

He's seeing the field so well.

And really starting to distort defenses. On the run to the right for fd, the D was willing to concede him 10 to be in position to stop the score. This limits their aggression. That's real respect on the field. And VY is smart enough to pick 'em clean for what their surrendering.

That's one good defense

the Titans have. Between them and the running game on offense, Vince has some help. This is realistically a playoff team.

by beast in bama on Sep 24, 2007 10:35 PM CDT reply actions

Agree

They're going to the playoffs.

And I would not want to play VY/Norm Chow.

by Peter Bean on Sep 24, 2007 10:36 PM CDT up reply actions

AFC South

Is ridiculous. The only losses any of the 4 teams have suffered have come within the division.

The Colts, Texans, and Titans (maybe Jags) could all make the playoffs. If the Texans didn't suffer a rash of injuries, they could've easily been the undefeated team in 1st place.

Nice.

Anyways, just wanted to point out that Colin Cowherd was totally on Vince's jock this morning. He pointed out that he's allowed to change his opinion on the guy, saying that it's similar to holding a stock--you wouldn't hold the same position forever. I beg to differ; I'm still holding the position that Colin Cowherd is a douche.

well some positions...

you just need to hold because they're right...

Very interesting

I'll be downloading that podcast.

Did he have any thoughts on Reggie Bush?
