McCoy Talent Level
Ok, so don't get me wrong, I am Colt McCoy fan, there is no doubt he has been and will continue to be a star for the Horns. Any problems UT has will not be because of lack of talent at QB.
But...you hear comments from broadcasters that seem to indicate a lack of pro-level arm strength. I know looking at McCoy I am reminded of Steve Walsh, the great collegiate QB at Miami.
Anybody here think he is a strong pro prospect? Is NFL arm strength something you are born with or something you can grow into over a college career?

Ken Dorsey?
McCoy reminds me of Dorsey in a lot of ways. I'm not much of a scout, though, so take it for what it's worth.

Wow, I posted this before today's game
Seems kinda silly now...I still think has been and can be a nice player. But today he looked light-years away from the NFL. Now you wonder if you can keep the position at Texas.

His accuracy has plummeted
What we saw from McCoy last year was no lie. He was ridiculously accurate. Being that accurate over a 16 game season with no real credible running game is no fluke...it's natural ability.
Something though, is wrong this year. He used to NEVER miss that intermediate out-pattern to the sidelines. This year, he's maybe 50/50 on those throws. He's struggling, and as a result, has become a bit gun shy. That check down on 4th and 8 was a friggin joke. Um, just because you have three picks doesn't make it accpetable to check down to a RB who has two guys on him 7 yarsd behind the sticks. Throw the ball up to Limas and let's at least give him the chance to make a play.
Anyway, all this talk about him bulking up this year as a potential source of explanation for his inaccuracy. Not sure whether there's any track record of QBs dropping off significantly after hitting the weight room during the offseason. I would say though that it most certainly appears McCoy is trying to throw the ball much harder than is natural for him. And as he's struggled doing so, he's gotten in the habit of staring down his receivers in an attempt (a bad one at that) to minimize his potential to screw up.
If McCoy wants to model himself after someone who's been successful at both levels, he should look to Chad Pennington. No Chad isn't sturdy enough to really hitch your franchises's wagon to, but when he's in there, he's going to make good decisions and very accurate throws. Pennington never lost his accuracy trying to add a meaningless 15 pounds of muscle. Colt, you're not going to impress any one physically. Mature naturally and make damn sure you retain your one truly speical quality as a QB: your accuracy. If that goes, enjoy holding the clipboard behind Chiles the next couple of years.
