But Oklahoma lost too
So the 2007 Texas Longhorn Football Team will not be hoisting any crystal trophies at season's end...but most of us knew that wasn't going to happen anyway.
However, I'm downright surprised at how much pleasure I'm able to extract right now from the far newer realization that OU will not be doing so either. Because until today, I thought they had a pretty legitimate chance.
The endurance of this season would have been infinitely more difficult if the thieves were in the title hunt until January? But they're not, they screwed it up, so they're out, and they can go f#*k themselves.
That makes me smile at least a little bit on an otherwise frustrating day.

True, but the only thing that
still hurts is that the land thieves lost by a last second field goal on the road and we lost by 20 at home to an unranked team.
I need more drink after writing that.

Still more season left
Despite both teams losing today, I wouldn't say it's totally out of the picture for either one to make the title game still. Having a loss definitely hurts your chances, but it's getting harder and harder to go undefeated these days anyway. USC's got a bitch of schedule, LSU's coach is Les Miles, and Florida's currently down against Auburn at the moment. With all these different upsets happening each week, I'm willing to bet the title game will be played by a team with at least one loss (if not both teams with a loss).
So chin up--all Texas has to do from this point on is kick ass and not lose. Sounds easy enough, right?

So what's the knock on Les Miles?

upset Saturday
After this weekend, it seems impossible that even one team goes undefeated. With every single top 5 team struggling, hell OSU is the only top 10 team I can think of that had a solid win (so far) this weekend.
Maybe this was the wake up call we needed going into to Dallas next weekend. We still have a talented team, and we lost the same way we've been predicting for weeks. As long as we make the necessary changes, we ought to still have a chance. I guess I'm just at the overly optimistic stage now.

Nothing personal
Les just always seems to inexplicably lose a game/lead he really probably shouldn't. You'll see it coming from that "deer in the headlights" look he'll have.
