can't do anything about it now, but....
I know of a lot of so called UT fans are already jumping off the bandwagon and talking so negative about the longhorns and to those of you who started rooting for texas when they were winning rose bowls i say don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out. I got so many calls on my cell during the game of my friends who jumped to UT when the going was easy and everything was peachy cream, and they were talking about how the players are garbage and how colt mccoy is nothing and how the longhorns aint sh!t anymore. well i've been a bleeding burnt orange the minute i stepped on the DKR field when i was 9 years old and my peewee coach took us to see the longhorns play. I only have 1 regret from this weekend,
and that some of the other top teams fell to inferior opponents. i wish that it would have just been us to fall this weekend, and thats not saying i wasnt happy when colorado beat OU but i wish we were the lone ones to fall. i feel that going into this week i can hear Mack on monday morning QB talking about all the other teams that lost and how college football is so unpredictable, but in reallity it is our football team that is unpredictable. i mean i've always lived by my coaches word when he told me that all the coach's job is to put kids into position to be successful. and i dont think our staff is putting our kids into position to be successful. i've seen numerous longhorn teams that under-produced and under-achieved throughout the early 2000's. and i have never questioned mack's ability to coach a football team, but where i see him failing is to motivate a team. our football team needs help and needs to have a since of ergency to right the ship and get our team in order. Also we have lost our swagger and most importantly we lost our identity as a football team. there's something missing from this team and thats a single figure that takes the team and ignites something inside these players. now normally that should be the head coach, but i dont have the confidence in mack to pull that part of himself and put it onto the field every saturday. we had vince young to do that for a couple of years and i hate to say it but if we wait for another VY it will be another 35 years before we smell the national championship again fellas. my prediction is that we go 9 - 4 this year and the schedule ahead of us isn't looking like the easy cake walk anymore. of course im not saying that the season was going to be easy but talent alone we should not have had these tough of times. meet you guys later, thanks BON for letting me get my thoughts out. Amen to that brother!!!
I agree with your comments 110%. I hate those people that jump bandwagons. Everyone wants to be associated with a winner but those that jump on and off bandwagons drive me nuts. Where were they during the lean years??
Anyway, remember a couple years ago when we had Greg Robinson and Dick Tomey? I'm not necessarily saying I want those guys back (Tomey maybe) but you have to admit they had the defense pumped, playing aggressive, and they found ways to disguise the Horns weaknesses.
The Horns lack that toughness and aggressiveness - both on offense and defense. Akina and Mac Duff might be good coaches but they just don't seem to have the knack for motivating and getting the defense to be aggressive and swarming.
As for Greg Davis...well we all know how lukewarm he is. The only way...the ONLY way we get rid of him is for the wealthy alumni/boosters to put pressure on Dodds, who then puts pressure on Mack.

Coachspeak
I really, really hope we get something out of Mack's presser that's worthwhile. Unfortunately, I think we'll hear what you were saying, that college football is unpredictable. I also don't want to hear him talk about how good Kansas State is, in a move that makes it seem like the loss wasn't that bad.
It would be so refreshing to hear him tell it like it is, but you can't teach an old dog new tricks.

What I hope
is that someone, anyone, will step up and not wait for the coaches to try and motivate the players and that this person will become the leader of the team. Thats what this team needs, and realistically, lets look at the 2005 team. Vince was a freak of a player, but even more than that, he was a freak of a leader and thats what it takes to win conference and national championships.
I remember hearing about how, the summer before the 2005 season, Vince sent a message out to the team that if they wanted to actually work at winning a NC and not just talk about it, then those players needed to meet him, not Mack or GD or Akina, for workouts.
I just dont see that with the team right now. I dont see someone that will get in another players face and tell them to quit f'ing up, and I think this is a big reason why we look so lethargic on the field.
I guess you could attribute this shaddy season to coaching, and it would be a valid point, but by doing that, you are also saying that the players are playing up to their potential and thats just not true. We recruit some of the best in the nation and yet we lose to K-State? On talent alone we should beat them by 3 or 7 points(and thats being modest).
I am a very optimistic person, and possibly my worst trait is that I forgive and forget way too easy, but as a true fan of the Longhorns, I am willing to do this again. I say this is a wakeup call and we will get back to being Texas this next weekend. I say we finish the season strong with one more loss and endup with another 10 win season. Wishfull thinking? Probably, and the more likely scenario has us losing 3 games, but I will remain optimistic.
Am I way off here and being TOO optimistic, or do any others feel that this is accurate?

haven't seen anything
from the players or staff all year that could inspire that level of confidence within myself. The KSU game felt JUST LIKE the Mackovic daze (pun intended).

lack of leadership
Yes, this team is in desperate need of a leader who will keep them in check (see multiple arrests) and will light a fire under their ass in a revenge game (should be easy enough, you'd think). A leader should inspire passion, and we just don't seem to have any out on the field. Since it's not going to come from any of the coaches maybe someone (Limas Sweed?) will step up.
