Injury Concerns
I saw Brian Orakpo on campus today
with crutches and a knee brace on. Does anyone have any news on him and any other Texas injuries from Saturday

Orakpo
will miss TCU, but after that everything is hazy. And by hazy I mean that only the trainers, coaches, and Orakpo know more. If it were season-ending, I think we would have known in Mack's presser yesterday. Orakpo is getting an MRI this week, but I believe they're treating it as if he will continue playing this season.

We will find out more when the injury report is released (thursday?)

The low block that took Orakpo down
looked a bit shady. I'm no expert on the subject, but this didn't seem like a clean football block. Any comments from BONers with better insight?

Illegal Chop Block
Haven't seen the replay, but from what I've heard, Orakpo was engaged with the offensive tackle when Arkie State's running back came over and took out his knees.
The reason it's illegal and causes so many injuries is because when you're pushing on someone else, a lot of times your legs will be rigid and your knees exteneded or locked out (thus allowing you to apply the pressure needed to push another 300 pounder around). So when someone comes to take out year knee, it's like snapping a stick.

even the announcers
commented that it was an illegal block because the player was already engaged above the waist with another player. Orakpo's injury is the exact reason that rule was put into place.

Baffling response to the despicable block.
Though the entire last 3 quarters were frustrating to watch, that illegal block was the low point for me. Certainly, I wish Orakpo the best in recuperating and returning to his high-level form. At the same time, the team's failure to respond to the obviously dirty play baffles me. VY would have sprinted across the field himself to let the running back know exactly how the team would react to his malicious play, maybe even with an open-palmed "punch" to the helmet. My WWVYD hypothetical may be a cliched argument, but my concerns remains regarding the leadership and fire on the team. At the end of last season, we witnessed several hits on McCoy, one legal, the other malicious, that would have generated an indomitable rally from a team with better leadership and drive. Instead, the Longhorns lost both of those games and could have lost again last Saturday. The coaches can easily change schemes and depth chart positions, theoretically at least, but championship-caliber leadership can't be installed. I'm left wondering who will emerge to fill this role.
