I've seen a few posts on people that strongly believe Mack intentionally kept the gameplan vanilla and as a means to not show TCU what he has up his sleeve. There is some proof if you read between the lines during the offseason. Mack said that there would be lots of trick plays this year. We ran only one. He even said that the shotgun runs would be almost neutralized from the playbook and there would be more I-form/Singleback formations, but the shotgun draws still ran abundant on saturday. Now you can call Greg Davis incompetent or a bad play caller, but a liar? There's definitely something going on...
These next 2 points might be taking it a little far, but you never know. Maybe Greg Davis wants TCU to believe that we didn't fix our problems from last year? So they adapt to last year's offense and we throw at them more of an I-form/Spread look? And you have to think even if we were up big before half time, how much would they have let Chiles play because now TCU has zero film on him.
