Kyle Shanahan promoted

The Texans have promoted former Horn WR Shanahan from QB Coach to OC. He's now all of 28 years old, the youngest OC in the NFL. They also brought Alex Gibbs out of retirement to be Assistant Head Coach and oversee the offense. Kyle will continue to coach the QBs.

Chron reported: "I don't care about Kyle's age, because I know he's a darn good coach that's only going to get better," Kubiak said. "His knowledge of attacking coverages is beyond his years. I think he's going to make an excellent play-caller, too."

There has been a lot of discussion about Major (age 29) having enough experience to be our OC.

my take

As an Oilers, I mean Texans, fan, the turn of events over the past couple of days are exciting.  Alex Gibbs, who was hired to be the O-line coach, did an awesome job with some powerful Broncos squad.  Supposedly, Shanahan is a tape nut who has impressed the Texans with his knowledge.  With those two guys - which will hopefully be a mix of experience, intelligence, and innovation - along with a known offensive commodity like Kubiak (even if he is an aggie), could be the brain of a powerful offense.

I would love for the Texans offense to be comprised of more than throws to Andre and "three pies and a cloud of meringue" Dayne.

As far as Major, Shanahan obviously got a break by being the son of a coach and being placed with his father's protege.  Certainly, connections never hurt.  Personally, I think it's just a matter of time before Major gets his break.

also...

And adding this secondarily in case it goes against the BON code and it can be dhabbed easily, but there is a SB Nation site for the Texans for those interested.

re: Battle Red Blog

Unless the BON Code has been modified, there shouldn't be any problems with naming another SBN site.

Hell, I believe it was actually a diary by PB about a year ago that informed me/us of the then newly-created Battle Red Blog.  For those who don't know, the guy who mainly writes for BRB (it's PB, if you will) is a Horn himself.

I advised my adopted son to declare for the NFL draft, mostly because he owes me money.

And just to be fair

Here is the SBN site for America's Team:

Flog...er...Blogging the Boys

You know, since they're still playing and all.

Anybody know Dave-Grizz's collegiate affiliations? I'm a newb with him.

Shan is a gay

I don't consider Kyle Shanahan a Longhorn.  He's a transfer student from Duke.  I lump him in with the likes of Ryan Nunez and that fat goomba from High School who spent his first year at Abilene Christian and now wants to sell you insurance.

Plus Chris Simms has a tattoo on his inner thigh that reads "KShan 4eva".  Those two rubbers drove matching Audis and shared a bed at the Gables; I bet each night was just a mess of Lemon Drop Martinis and torn linen trousers.

I'm not exactly an insider...

so I have just one question.  Who is "that fat goomba from High School..."?

Re: Shanahan

I made him a sandwich once.  He and Simms came into Thundercloud together in '99.  They were friendly compared to a lot of the people we had coming in there.

God damnit

Now I want a thundercloud sub!

Long drive from Dallas to get one...

As to Kyle, congrats and great work.  Its great to see Longhorns succeeding in any field.

the AUSTIN CLUB

is one of man's great accomplishments.

way off topic.

My adopted son Curtis Brown has the power of flight, but can't navigate his way onto the field.
