Meet DJ Grant...
For those of you who are not familiar with possibly one of the best kept secrets in Texas recruiting, and possibly our biggest difference maker for the 08 season.
Allow me to introduce DJ Grant
If you ask me, this guy could be the WR to emerge out of the incoming freshman class. He no doubt would have been rated as one of the premiere WR's by all recruiting analysts had he not missed his junior season due to injury. That catch is shades of the future.

Need video
and I am not sure why you put those parentheses in.

Now more than just a swimming school!
This is exciting for us LBJ HS alums. When Reagan HS was split to form LBJ in the '70's, the pool of talent was diluted and neither school has won state since. I was in the class of '79 with Longhorns Mike Chapman and Eric Holle, and we had several more recruits over the years, but none since Robert Crenshaw (UT '93-'96).
Other Jags who played at UT (all mid-80's):
Eric Jeffries
James McKinney
Billy Ray Todd, Jr.
Sorry for the homerism, I'm just so dang proud of DJ!
I'll look for some video.

I skipped right past him.
I'm not finding any video of DJ.

I was growing up
in North Austin in the late 60's with all the Reagan coaches living on my block as they were winning all those state titles, and some Texas coaches living around us too (Fred Akers). Later all my friends went to LBJ (which opened when I was in about the 5th grade) while I went to McCallum and played ball for the Knights. Nice to see the Jags doing well, we've had some kids from Reagan on the team as well right? Brings back old memories.
DJ Grant is a major talent.

I went back...
back and looked at your link to the LBJ football HF and I was amazed to see Vaughn Dearey and Cyril Friday... I went to gradeschool with those guys and played ball against them growing up at the Delwood Opitmist football program for kids, Cyril was a Mustang and Vaughn was a Raider. I also knew Mike Chapman and Scott Kloesel... thanks for the trip down memory lane. That was cool.

I wish more high schools
would take the time to honor their football past. My older sibling went to Reagan (before LBJ was built) and we never missed a game. I would love to know where some of those Raiders ended up playing. I can't find much on them.
West Texas does a great job with sites like this:

Ah well I would expect that from the boys out...
in West Texas. Austin is a bit different you know? Westlake and Austin High do a great job of tracking this stuff too though.
HD when did you go to LBJ? I graduated from McCallum in 1980.

I graduated
from LBJ in '79, UT in '83. My bro-in-law played at McCallum in the early 70's, before Anderson was built. Sack Mac! heh heh

Yeah...
But you guys only beat us 7-0 my senior year... :-) It was a good game. Mac was one of those schools that suffered from splitting too, like Reagan did.
Thanks for the reply and info today! I graduated from UT in 1987.

Scott was
a good kid growing up...I was glad to see the info about him in the link HD provided to LBJ HS hall of fame. Good for him.
Six degrees of separation evidently? Its actually kind of interesting.

Scott's dad (uncle?)
was our pharmacist, now a semi-retired UT Pharm prof/dean. They are related, right bfd?
Two degrees of separation.
Sorry to all you non-austinites who came to this thread to read about Derrick Grant!

Don't know HD...
I just remember Scott.
by HornsFan87 on Jan 15, 2008 5:15 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
yep, you're right
We are related by marraige, and he's on the city-fied and edumacated part of the family tree. I'm more familiar with the agrarian side. I saw them at family reunions a couple of times, but no more than that.
I had a cousin, and I remember hearing "why can't you be more like Scott?" And I got, "Why can't you be more like Uncle Herman?" That's what I mostly remember.
Thanks for the memories. The painful, ego-shattering memories :-)

This is adorable...

I was waiting for you
to somehow abuse us old guys for living in the past.
Look above in the original post and you'll find that mvp added a video. Stellar grab, btw!
Somebody needs to contact DJ's mom and have her upload some video for us. I couldn't find anything either.

Niiiice...
Now this diary is cool. What a catch. Someone give at least one of our receivers some stilts, though. We need a few more inches.
