Re:
I've got a friend that works at a hotel in Houston where the players stayed during tryouts.
Eric Crouch was apparently one of those players going out for the immortal AAFL.

aafl
i went to their webite, (AAFL.com) I think, anyway that sheds a very dim light on the subject but basically its an outdoor football league that takes place in the spring. YAH!!! To qualify you must be a graduate of a major college, and if your protected then you can't be drafted by other teams. That's about all i figured out from the website.

AAFL
It's suppposed to be pro football with a collegiate feel to it; thus, the players on a given team (say, Team Texas), will have ties to that team. So Team Texas would ideally be stocked with players who played high school or college ball in or near Texas (since there's not a team for each state). The thought is that you, the fan, will be more willing to root for your team if you've grown up rooting for/seeing those players play on a consistent basis.
