Ugly
What do you know, we allow wide open threes, and they're making them.
Seeing what has already happened today, losing at home to a team with a solid perimeter game wouldn't be a surprise.

3ptrs....feels like the last few games
have started quick for the bad guys. really odd.
2 early fouls on james.
Roby's perfect so far...
Oh fuck!
James with 2 fouls already. What a total disaster. 13-6 losing.

CU guards
Having trouble keeping Augustin in front of them. We're gonna need a big game from him.
xavier silas?

oh yeah, there it is in the the game preview
i dont know how to read guys. it's amazing i've gotten this far really.

Pretty sad
at how ridiculously open these CU shooters are.
Here's another team that's shooting sub-40% from three but lights it up against us. 4-7 so far from three.
by goingforthecorner on Jan 19, 2008 7:19 PM CST reply actions
18-11 CU at under 12 timeout
Defense struggling to guard simple screens; transition defense sloppy.
It's weird seeing Rick Barnes teams play subpar D, but that's where we are these days.
Since LaMarcus left us for the NBA
we basically haven't had a true center that could play defense. We've been hampered ever since.
Barnes really needs to recruit some big guys with talent. Not just athletic guys learning the game like Alexis.

There we go
Johnson with good body control, nice shot.
AJ loses his man again - 3 for Colorado, their fifth of game. 21-13 CU
Great post move by Johnson
The easy hook. Looked very easy. Do it more.
And maybe we could get some hands in some faces on their threes? WTF?
In the Mizzou game, people said how hot they were in the 2nd half, as if it was some kind of legitimate excuse for us.
They were hot because they were WIDE OPEN. And it's happening again today.

Ugh MASON!
Bad shooter, and also a bad ball-handler.
One bad thing about trying to play an inside game with Johnson/Connor is we'll have to lose our identity of a run-and-gun style team. If we're going to focus on going inside, then the game tempo has to slow down by default.
And since our defense is so horrible, I don't think a slower halfcourt game is a good idea.

Ah... great memories...
T.J. Ford assists to Boddicker for three.
Ford assists to Mouton for a layup.
And it was against A&M.
by goingforthecorner on Jan 19, 2008 7:33 PM CST reply actions
YES!
Mason STUFFS Roby and then DJ three.
Then DJ lays it in.
PB was right. If we win this game, it's because DJ exploded.
by goingforthecorner on Jan 19, 2008 7:36 PM CST reply actions
Starting to get silly
How many three pointers AJ takes and misses. His value as a 30-35% three point shooter is... not good.
6-10 from beyond the arc?
going to set a cu record here.
Please stop
Can we please stop fouling people immediately after they get the defensive rebound?

eddie o commenting
that dj's getting good penitration but theres just no movement around him.
by the other Andrew on Jan 19, 2008 7:46 PM CST reply actions
There we go
It's DJ Augustin and the 7 dwarfs, though. No one else playing well. Literally, no one.
Whooptie doo
Miss FTs followed by giving up open looks.
Phase 1 of my disillusionment is beginning.

This is colorado, right?
I think I'll just wait till the second half to comment any more..
hahaha - craig way...
"texas just 3 of 11 from beyond the arc and colorado 7 of 12. boy that sounds like a familiar refrain doesnt it?"
by the other Andrew on Jan 19, 2008 7:50 PM CST reply actions
Going to kill myself
This announcing is SO BAD.
All this talk about storylines and intangibles. Zero talk about what's happening on the court.
just switched to craig, as per other msgs
muuuuuch better.
U_G_L_Y
28 points. DJ showed up. Rest of the team looks C-.
Damion James has not played since the 17:00 mark.
I was just about to point that out
James' foul trouble is killing us on offense. He has a total of one shot taken.

Bean, is there a blogpoll for basketball?
by the other Andrew on Jan 19, 2008 7:53 PM CST reply actions
yeah but he'll make a
flurry of 3s right at the end to bring his average up even though we're down 15
by the other Andrew on Jan 19, 2008 8:11 PM CST up reply actions
Yes, please
AJ not happy with my dissing him, apparently. Goes to the rack, draws foul, finishes. Now that we need.
Defense is bad
but giving up 37 points at halftime isn't that bad. It wouldn't be bad if our offense was doing what it was supposed to be doing.
We should win games 80-something to 70-something
For this game, AJ has to make threes, DJ has to keep dominating, and James has to step up.
by goingforthecorner on Jan 19, 2008 8:13 PM CST reply actions
angry, angry atchley
nice to see us show signs of life.
Back to a three point game.
Just winning this game will be great. Who knows how many spots we'd jump up.
#15 Ole Miss also lost in addition to the other teams that lost earlier.
Mason with the glue and points!
by goingforthecorner on Jan 19, 2008 8:18 PM CST reply actions
WOW
Craig Way is going nuts. "HOW BOUT IT!?"
by goingforthecorner on Jan 19, 2008 8:19 PM CST reply actions
that quick 3 from AJ
is the type where I start by yelling noooo!, which quickly changes to yessssssssssss!
21-2 run!
wow. just. wow. James really lights this team up.
21-2 run
Mason's defense is excellent.
The only thing I don't like about this run is that Johnson hasn't really played any role in it. He just checked in, so lets see what happens.
by goingforthecorner on Jan 19, 2008 8:27 PM CST reply actions
Bad CU defense
how do you let Abrams get that wide open?
52-43. This looks like Texas Basketball.
by goingforthecorner on Jan 19, 2008 8:29 PM CST reply actions
Umm... Abrams?
You had an open three, and you instead passed it to Mason? WTF?
Oh well... CONNOR FOR THREE!
62-50
by goingforthecorner on Jan 19, 2008 8:42 PM CST reply actions
You know, I just walked in at the half
Been out to a HS game. Didn't see or hear missouri, was out in LA. I walk in and everything is beautiful. What was wrong?
Roby Bad Foul Changed Game
My pregame post:
"Right now CU is a one-trick pony. Roby is that pony. As he goes the Buffs go. He is a highly emotional player and prone to being overly aggressive and fouling out."
When Roby picked up his 3rd foul early in the third UT went on their huge run. He just does that - a lot, thankfully!
interesting question...
19 mins, 2 pts, 1 pf
Out of sync
On both ends of the floor. Rick's just gone away from him. Probably justified - Gary's looked a little lost.
Did GJ look like he could neutralize Roby
in the future?
At least early
Looks like we might have overrated his impact. I can say right now that he's not "the answer". His defense isn't as good as we all hoped it would be, and it's landing him on the bench. Speaking of which, that's where he is right now.
by goingforthecorner on Jan 19, 2008 8:54 PM CST up reply actions
Thanks for the info, gang
I would expect him to have a transition point; it is a different level and the costs, the mistakes, are magnified. So, he'll have to find himself on the court.
Back to a 7 point lead
We went on a huge run just to earn this lead. Lets not collapse now.
I'm a bit worried because of our poor FT shooting...
Connor jumper + the foul!
by goingforthecorner on Jan 19, 2008 8:52 PM CST reply actions
NICE!
- An entry pass into the post.
- Weird - it was to Mooney
- Mooney with a terrific quick pass to Atch
- Bucket + foul
ku 66 - mizzou 64, 4 mins to go...
good to see it being close, and not another blowout.
Connor is officially back
His rebounding numbers could be better, but who would've thought that he would have 9 more points than James at any point of this game?
by goingforthecorner on Jan 19, 2008 8:55 PM CST reply actions
WTF horrible possesion
a bunch of dribbling and then AJ throws up a wild shot. Give the fuckin ball to DJ and let him work.
by goingforthecorner on Jan 19, 2008 8:59 PM CST reply actions
Oh wow
DJ misses front end of 1 and 1. What is going on...
Now it's a 4 point game. We're choking!
by goingforthecorner on Jan 19, 2008 9:00 PM CST reply actions
Horns went to slow down
before they nailed the game down, lost their momentum. Should have gone to Connor; he's on.
HUGE
lucky rebound by Connor, ball came right to him.
Great timeout by Barnes. Our offensive plays have been total GARBAGE!
by goingforthecorner on Jan 19, 2008 9:01 PM CST reply actions
don't choke
don't choke
don't choke
don't choke
We're probably going to end up winning this game.
Much credit goes to the increase in defensive intensity in the 2nd half.
Who would've thought that offense would've been a problem on this team? There's no way we should be held under 70 points in any game.
Final: 69-67.
by goingforthecorner on Jan 19, 2008 9:07 PM CST reply actions
Important win
After a lousy first half.
We'll take it. Good second halves from DJ, AJ, and Atchley. Solid play from Damion, too. Hard to tell if Gary Johnson's maybe not ready yet.
Get this
With 4:25 left in the 2nd half, Connor made a FT to make it 69-59.
We did not score a point the remaining 4:25. Wow. Luckily, we had already scored enough points to win. That's the value of good defense.
by goingforthecorner on Jan 19, 2008 9:14 PM CST reply actions
what the hell????
Let me start by saying that I'm not a huge basketball fan, until recently with Durant kinda pullin me in last year, but does it seem like ,to anyone else, that the horns basketball team only plays up to their competition? I mean Tennessee, WHAM, UCLA, WHAM, Michigan State, almost WHAM>>>. And then now it seems like we only half-ass show up? What gives?
I do wonder if Barnes is installing
more offense.
Perhaps they're tired. A half will equalize the opposition; then you hit the big guns. When you slow down, though, you slow waaaaay down.
Whoever writes the post-game recap
might as well write a preview for the OK State game. That's game is two days from now!
by goingforthecorner on Jan 19, 2008 9:26 PM CST reply actions
Ok... is it just me??
or did the 'Horns play better when we had the previous starting five on the floor? Johnson's a beast, but it seems like tonight Mason had more chemistry with the rest of the team. Just my point of view. :)
by LadyLonghorninOK on Jan 19, 2008 9:29 PM CST reply actions
Yup
Great insight. Johnson's really struggled since St. Mary's.
If Mason could get his sh-t together on offense, it'd be an easy call.
Long way from March, of course - we've got a lot of growing left to do.
