Greg Davis: Keeps Job. Gets Raise.

From the Statesman:

"Texas offensive coordinator Greg Davis will make $425,000 this coming season, the same salary as new defensive coordinator Will Muschamp.

Davis’ raise is nearly $75,000 more than he made for 2007."

Star-divide

The article also notes the present salaries of other Texas coaches who received bumps in pay.

As for Davis, I believe the message is clear:  Losing three games in a season--and the last six against OU/A&M/K-State--exceeds our highest expectations for you, and thus you deserve a 20% pay increase.  Keep it up.  But let's be clear...if you lose four games, you can only expect a 15% pay raise.

extra cash?

boy I can sure think of better ways to spend 75,000 dollars. I think he should give Mack that money back to apologize for his piss poor performance throughout the last year.

it might be a bit of a stretch

to say that davis lost 3 games this season all by himself.

regardless, it's clear at this point that davis is going to make whatever the defensive coordinator makes.  no sense in getting up in arms about it.

Davis lost the KSU and A&M game

I don't think that Greg was at fault against OU. He called a very good game but failed to make second half adjustments.

The A&M game was the one that hurt. We came into that game hot with Jamaal Charles and he did not give him the ball enough, early in the game. Once we got down by 21 points it was pretty much the Colt show. If he gave the ball to JC more, we would have had a better chance to win.

The KSU game was a complete debacle in all aspects of the game. The returns for TDs absolutely killed us. We gave up 21 points on returns and lost 41-21. We don't give up those touchdowns, we probably win the game. So GD is completely to blame on that loss but his abandonment of the running game did not help our cause at all.

What bothered me with GD's performance was our failure to adjust to their pressure and our abandonment of the running completely. He seemed to forget that we had a running back and that allowed KSU to completely tee off on Colt McCoy.

By the way, the raise is completely unjustified but I see where Mack is going with it. He doesn't want to create in-house problems and jealousy between the coaches. Mack is rewarding GD for being a "good soldier" all those years and does not want him to think that he likes Muschamp more. He didn't deserve it, but when you are swimming in cash, why not?

Yeah

It had nothing to do with the deficiencies on defense at all.  Um, how is Davis responsible for 3 returns for TDs?  And as good as JC was, we all know he wasn't, and hasn't, lived up to any of the expectations we all had for him.  It's his fault the coaches didn't trust him not to put the ball on the ground, not Davis'.  Your theory just doesn't pass the sniff test with Charles--with the way he was performing to begin the year, his increased involvement would have made no difference.  The problem is, when your playing from behind, you're basically forced to throw the ball.  That's just football, and every single coach across the country, regardless of the level of play, coaches the exact same way.  And against A&M, 30 points should be enough to win any ballgame--period.  There is absolutely no reason, with the talent Texas has, that they should have given up that many points.  So what specifically has GD done to deserve such resentment?
