Jamaal #6 in S.I. top 12 running backs
Jamaal checks in at number six in Sports Illustrated's top 12 running back prospects in the draft. I find it a bit odd, however, that he is listed ahead of Ray Rice, Steve Slaton, and Mike Hart. I sill feel like Jamaal is undersized, but perhaps it's just my perception from watching him since his freshman days.

Undersized?!
He is 6'1! how is he undersized? You can check, but I think Mike Hart is 5'8, and Ray Rice is not much taller than that.
I guess
I just perceive those other guys as more durable and perhaps better adapted to the NFL at this stage. I suppose it depends how an NFL team might use him.

speed kills
all the scouts like charles because he is easily in the top 5 overall in speed. scouts think that you can teach and polish football schemes and skills but you cant teach speed. plus mike hart is not that good or that fast and didnt have a showing in the later part of the year like charles, hell i dont know of any running back who solidified his draft status in the last half of the season more than charles, but i am biased. hook em
jamaal
I always think of Jamaal as undersized too, yet I have no idea why. He's 6'1 and what like 210-215lbs. If he can put on more muscle like he did this last offseason he should be fine, also I believe his 40 time should be the fastest of all the backs, if not all the players.
How about....
....Warrick Dunn (5'9", 187)?
Eleven seasons in the league.
10,181 Career Rushing Yardage
4,009 Career Receiving Yards
2007 was the first season in his career when he failed to post at least 1,000 total yards. Even then, he missed it by only 42 yards.
He's only missed 10 games his entire career!
He was the #12 overall pick in the 1997 NFL Draft.
Great Player Warrick Dunn
One of the true class guys in the NFL. Man it seems like that he has been in the NFL for a really long time. He is a ten year vet and still an extremely productive back. He won't go down among the all time greats, but will go down as one of the top small stature backs in NFL history. One of my favorite players in the NFL.
It is a shame that he is playing in that wasteland that is the Atlanta Falcons. I thought he never should have left the Bucs.
You are right HornChamps, size does not matter that much in the NFL. As long as you don't get hurt and produce you can make it as a runningback.

Isn't size the main reason
track star Eric Metcalf was used more as an all-purpose guy instead of a RB in his 13 NFL years? He was 5'10" 187 (with pads/lead shoes?). He played RB on some plays in the first 7 years, but excelled as a returner/receiver - almost 10000 APY. Lightning fast but don't let him get hit at the line. Jamaal's got 20 lbs on him, so isn't he going to run regularly between the DTs?
How is Warrick Dunn different than Metcalf if they are the same size? I'm not cocking off, I really don't know the answer.
I would love nothing more than to see Jamaal succeed - Ricky, Ced and Selvin have left me wanting more.
Jamaal will kill at the combine...
As already posted, speed is what makes those scouts wet their pants and JC has it in abundance. If he's smart and has been in one of those programs that takes some of that football muscle off and adds a few tenths of a second to your 40 he may well jump up a few slots if any of those other guys disappoint in any way...
Otherwise, you have to wonder about the fumblitis he suffered from early (was it mental/technique or the dreaded 'small hands syndrome' that dogged our boy Ricky).
On a related note it was sad to hear about Limus re-injurying himself trying to play too soon in that Senior Bowl. Now it looks like he'll miss the draft altogether. Someone will surely take a flyer on him to get better and his record speaks well, but he probably cost himself a much bigger signing bonus thru some bad choices in this last year, namely trying to get back on the field too quickly (surely there is alot of pressure to do so but ultiamtely the kid has to be honest about what he can/can't do physically) Best of luck Sweed I'm sure you will do well in a year or two!
