WVU destroys OU

West Virginia absolutely destroyed OU's defense tonight and for the first half stymied their offense as well en route to a moderately shocking 48-28 victory in the Fiesta Bowl.

This makes OU 0-4 in their last 4 BCS games, falling 21-14 to LSU in 2004 Sugar Bowl, 55-19 to USC in the 2005 Orange Bowl, 43-42 to Boise St. in the 2007 Fiesta Bowl, and now 48-28 in the 2008 Fiesta Bowl.

Ignominious.

Sooner-bashing to commence.............now!

No need for my diary now...

Poor Sooners.  Don't you wish we could play them in a BCS bowl instead of the regular season every year?  We would own!  How about Noel Devine, Pat White, and my personal favorite, Owen Schmidt.  I'm watching him tear up talking about how much he loves the state of WVA, covered with blood and sweat and drool, and that kid is one hell of a football player.  Pure evil from kickoff to handshake.  Good for him to go out with a great game in a dominant victory over the soulless Sooners.

On a side note, I am officially done caring about the Bowl Mania game.  Michigan and WVU killed my ballot.

Another side note.  If you Tivo'd the game, watch the trophy presentation and laugh your ass off right after the coach's trophy presentation.  Whoever that lady is gives the absolute most awkward salute I've ever seen.

Comments:
Someone made a comment about picking Illinois in the Rose Bowl.  I said boo hoo.  Oregon probably didn't score 56 in their last 5 games, Michigan decided that they cared about this game after all, and Air Force toyed with me by going up 21-0 before Cal realized that they were twice as big as them and promptly gave Carney a medical discharge.

Growing up, I only fed Jared Norton paper. That's why he eats plays.

OU still sucks!

They had played 4 BCS in the last 5 yrs & I am very glad that they have lost them all. Humiliated by the trick play from Bosie last yr & now, got destroyed by WVU.

As a bleeded burnt orange, I cannot ask anything better than that! Amen bro!

Big Game Bob, huh?

As truly wonderful and edifying as it is to see the land thieves get their cumpance I have to say that my most lasting impression from the game is of WFV.  WTF?!?!?  Makes the choke job against Pitt even more puzzling and frustraing.  At this point at least you'd have to say that was the most impressive performance by any team this year, with the possible excption of LSU/V-Tech a couple of ages ago.

Much more impressive than either USC or Georgia considering the competition.

On a side not so many people were saying that USC was playing the best of any team in the country, based in large part of their blow out of ASU.  Anyone elese blow out ASU recently?

WVU went to the top of my list.

Unless someone can play better, they're #1 regardless of the two-bit BCS bowl names.

Just a flat out butt kicking all over the trailer park. How are they gonna eat without their teeth? They'll just have to suck it down.

See, there is justice in this old world. Not much, but some. Reminded me of the '78 Orange Bowl when Arkansas dismantled the favored Sooners, 31-6. hehe

As if now WFV is #1, period end of discussion.

As I allude in my comment, the fantastic on-side kick that snuffed out the land thieves just as they seemed to be gearing up and the way this allows us to place so much blame for the loss on Stoops and the numerous penalties notwithstanding, WFV was physically the superior team for 4 quarters.  They won this game, in dominating fashion, against what even we have to concede is an excellent Sooner team.

I would keep the door opern for the winner of the BCSCG, however.  A similarly dominant performance might allow them to catch and perhaps even superseded WFV, although the latter, at the least, is unlikely.

I would be okay w/tOSU as champs.

Everybody is discrediting tOSU, and rightfully so but they beat everybody on their weak schedule soundly. They may have had a weak schedule but they beat everybody badly.  The only exception was Illinois, which is a pretty solid football team. If it wasn't for those turnovers against SC they could have made it a game.

LSU, on the other hand, started hot but as the SEC season progressed needed minor miracles to escape against weak opponents.

They lost to a mediocre Arkansas squad and gave up 50 points. They also needed a choke job by Eric Ainge to beat Tennessee.

If tOSU wins I think they would be deserving

hmm...

If it wasn't for those turnovers against SC they could have made it a game.

If Illinois didn't suck so much, they might have had a chance...

One would think that with their

Oline - most of which is coming back - and running game he shold have plenty of time to do his thing.  Not yesterday though.

I'd give LSU they benefit of the doubt

if they can put in Nawlins.  They were banged up form the latter half of the season and, dubious coaching aside, the SEC is a real grind.

I can't call myself excited about the BCS matchup but tOSU has at least 3 potential top 15 picks on defense, Beanie Wells, a monster line, some decent receivers and an adquate QB.  A dominant down for down performance (not some mistake-filled nailbiter) would satisfy me as to LSU's bonifides.  We have to remember the pathetic choke job by WFV against Pitt, far worse, particularly in retrospect, than either of LSU's losses.  If we're going to crown WFV based on their showing against OU we should give LSU (and tOSU) the chance to do the same.  The bar, however, has been set very high.

Bradford

Sam Bradford is a good qb, but it seems like if you can put pressuer on him and force him to play from him behind then he becomes average.

That is the key to beating OU. We just have to force Bradford to win the game. I don't think he can do it. He doesn't stand tall in the pocket at all. Did anybody see that sissy ass sack? The guy barely touched him and he fell over. All we have to do is put pressure on him. We tried it this year but it did not get to him.
