36-31 kansas st if anyone's interested
Acie Law
His absence cannot be understated. Neither Sloan nor Kirk are comfortable at the point. We should be able to force some turnovers tonight.
UGLY court
ugh
Connor
don't foul please!
dribble drive
is Kirk all they've got for lane penetration? or do sloan and carter also do that? i dont know
Gotta make the free throws
cuz they cannot make any

ugly ugly game
we need a TO this early ... :<</p>
Stunned
I am absolutely stunned right now. Did anyone come to play tonight? Barnse should have used a timeout about 4 points ago.
Wow, awful start
3 turnovers, missed threes, geting killed on the interior, two fouls on Connor. Sloppy, ugly, annoying.
F&*$.
yeesh
when will GJ learn he always has to be aware of the ball? it doesn't help that it was an ill-advised pass, but it would have been fine if Gary sees it
Carter 2-2 from 3 point
This is the nightmare scenario. Aggies working us inside, getting good shooting from Carter outside.
Awesome start
Isn't this what happened last year? They get off to a huge lead early and we try to play catch up the WHOLE GAME!
Fuck.

Time to play Pittman
They're gonna keep muscling; we gotta bring the beast, see if he can bang for a while.
It's 16-2
I had a feeling this would happen.
We're horrible at perimeter defense, and we're horrible at interior defense. A&M has both offensive threats at those positions.
James already with 3 FT misses, and James/DJ have missed a wide open three each.
19-3.

Fran Fraschilla
Fran said Damion James was the recipient of deep penetration. I believe Fran meant to say Damion was the beneficiary. Also, I know the defense stands closest to the basket during freethrows, but for how long have those defenders stood to the outside of the large blocks and not inside (closer to the backboard)?
Good
Two fouls on Joe Jones.
At some point, though, someone will have to make a basket. These are open looks, guys. Hit it.
Nice, high pick and roll
leads to fouls. There is no way that Jones or Jordan or Davis can help on DJ. They will foul him everytime or let him turn the corner.
ahhh
nothing coming easy. we are going to start knocking those shots down. we just need to creep back before half.
Exactly like the start of the Tech game
We started off HORRIBLY on offense, but at least our defense kept Tech at bay. But we're not even capable of keeping A&M at bay because they have 3pt shooters and a bunch of inside guys.
Offense is supposed to be our strength, and we've been a huge disappointing on offense since Big 12 play started.

sigh.
Not really the sort of start I was hoping for. On the plus side - i think i've created some new profanity.
If Dexy was going to get called for a T
he might as well clocked him.
But wait, we're not A&M.

Zebras
I try to stop myself from pointing fingers... but this is ridiculous.
Also I'm just going to assume they can't stay this hot/us this cold.
Brian Davis
New enemy of the nation. Fucking pussy.
Did they input a cheat code?
How is this even possible? I think the law of averages demands at least one of these f*ing shots should have gone down.
Our
defense is starting to get some stops or benefitting from turnovers and missed FTs. Now, is the time to make a freaking jump shot.
DJ needs to take over a bit
some high picks to get him free

We're not.....
...really going to play Aggie-like, blaming the game on the officials, are we? Man up!
More complex than that
We'd be down even in a perfectly officiated game.
But it ain't helping.
No blaming
But they aren't helping. We're hurting ourselves enough

Connor Atchley
sorry, mrs. atchley, but connor needs to go back on the testosterone pills.
by cortexas on Jan 30, 2008 8:49 PM CST reply actions
Chap
needs to get involved in a high pick and roll. Make Jones guard DJ on the dribble drive.
Turnovers
finally forcing some so we can get out a get some easy baskets
Much better ball movement
and our offense is slightly speeding up. That's how it's supposed to be. Warriors/Suns ball.
by goingforthecorner on Jan 30, 2008 8:51 PM CST reply actions
Back to back freshman mistakes
Chappy slow on retreat to defense, and then a bad pick for an offensive foul. Grrrrr
His type of game inside
Get him down low and let him bang around. He can muscle up with their big boys.

wow, 58 - 58 Horns and Bears
Sorry, I know most don't care about women's basketball. Still, looks like a good game.
WHy the Fuck do the national announcers
call the farmers the "Texas Aggies"??? It's not the Texas Red Raiders or the Ohio Buckeyes...
Why must the media keep doing this and giving false hope to the agrics?
Is it just penis envy against the flagship institution or some type of self loathing for being a specialty school?
I HATE farmers.
un fucking believable
We're pulling an A&M vs Baylor.
We miss FTs and our opponents make a ridiculous number of threes. Surprise.
by goingforthecorner on Jan 30, 2008 9:00 PM CST reply actions
Gary Johnson terrible D
He has over hedged on three straight screen. Twice an Aggie split his double team and the other time Jordan lost the handle on what would have been a moster dunk.
oh my lord
this is a beat down. we couldn't play anyworse. and they are owning us underneath.
looks like K STate going down
Frustrating
But I'm not sure we could have played much worse. Hopefully the tale of two halves.
Gotta hit the freebies man.
Gross
Well, that's pretty much the worst case scenario, huh?
A&M does a great job working the inside early, Carter is hot from the outside, and we're ice cold shooting the ball.
Add a little insult (sketchy officiating) to injury (bad play on our part) and we have a disaster.
Our perimeter defense cannot be
"I hope you miss"
by the other Andrew on Jan 30, 2008 9:05 PM CST reply actions
Horrible
Nothing going right. Missed free throws and uncharacterstic turnovers early. Also terrible shooting from the floor. 26 pts in a half is not going to do it.
Defense, even worse. Not defending their post players, not blocking out well, not closing out quick enough on three-point shooters and awful job doubling the guard off the high screen.
Wow, other than about three minutes in the middle when we forced turnovers and knocked down threes, this has been a freaking disaster.
major half time adjustment needed
I'm concerned
I also agreethat the Horns are playing poorly enough that A&M doesn't need additional help from the officials.
Kevin Durant
could really use Michael Beasley in Seattle.
If you haven't seen Beasley, you're missing out. Fran is right. He will definitely be the first pick.
I wish when all was said and done
that I can blame the officials on this one. But sadly, we've played shittily enough in the first half that its 100% our fault.
by the other Andrew on Jan 30, 2008 9:09 PM CST reply actions
Agree
Refs haven't been 'friendly,' but this is on us. Bricked free throws, missed open jumpers, and inferior defense.
We'd be down by at least 10 in a game officiated in our favor.
Adjustments?
What do you do if you're Rick Barnes?
I think I know what I'm gonna write about in this week's Texas Basketball Report... Hey, at some point, you have to take away the three point basket. We just can't survive this way. Make these criminals consistently score inside. Go to a bigger lineup on the interior, take away the three, and see if they can continue to score consistently on the inside.
Our bread and butter is out-out-out for this game.
Going Big
Only way to go big on defense is to sit AJ, move Mason to shooting guard, and start ____? I wish we had someone that I'd be comfortable with to fill in that blank.
Not to mention how much more clogged the lane will be with Mason's defender camped out there.
Unfortunately
defenses are now doing everything possible to take away DJ's drive. Therefore, our ability to just outscore people in an up and down game has also been eliminated.
We just flat out suck on defense
and Barnes must hate that. He's a defensive guy, and he's probably pulling his hair out.
If we're going to do anything in the tournament, we have to OUTSCORE everyone. This is a mirror image of our football team.

FT% disgusting...

Oh shit. Just woke up minutes ago.
What in the fuck is this? When the screen came into view I thought it was 31-0. Then I focused it didn't look that bad, but pretty freakin' bad. Damn.
Have caught up on thread; glad I was asleep.
Sometimes this happens. Pressure is off second half; ags will just glide; must get close by 8 minute mark or else Rick won't make any jokes for a week.

Anyone, I mean anyone, can be an 80% free throw shooter. You just need to get the down the basic mechanics and then practice, practice, practice.
Does someone need to tell them that you score one point for each one you make?
this cant be...

Final score UT 60 Baylor 61
Texas had a chance to win it in the last second ...
48-33, under 16 timeout
Lots of time left but it doesn't appear that we've heated up after the break. DJ with a break and AJ with an airball from long range.
This is a bad game for AJ
Wiggo made the right point about our team above, but in games like these, I feel like playing AJ for 35 minutes is refusing to admit a sunk cost.
He's not shooting well enough to justify all these minutes.
AJ
BECOME HOT! I believe in you!
Is it Friday night?
Damn it Ron, no wonder we're out of sync.
It becomes a question of who we have to play..

We're very short of manpower in the backcourt and our posts have not been effective
Ummm is Baylor better than us?
They can do something we haven't done in like 3 (probably 4) years, winning at A&M.

upside down horns

giving up 69 points with 4:47 left
actually isn't that bad for a horrible defensive club.
I'll say it again, offense is the main disappointment today. Barnes isn't not exactly an offensive genius. He doesn't need to be, but he needs to do better than this.
For starters, more motion, more passing. More cuts, screens, picks, and those should happen off the ball as well.
With Pittman emerging, get him more involved. Play inside out.

One and DONE ALL NITE LONG
by texfite on Jan 30, 2008 10:09 PM CST reply actions
What's up with the shot selection
The plays we're running are getting us inefficient shots. When was the last time that we executed a play that gave us an easy basket?
We might as well stop the Phoenix Suns comparisons. They say Barnes is trying to play Suns ball, but this is anything but Suns' ball.
The defensive-minded Barnes is still trying to play a half-court slow it down style of tempo. We were playing like them a couple of months ago.
I think the problem is we're dead tired and we have no bench. Running a Suns offense would be detrimental to the team in the long term.
So now we're back to a half-court team, and we're not suitable to play at that speed. This is bad news. Our only hope now is Pittman/Johnson saving us.

Not too much fight
just fighting in the wrong circumstances
Disgusting loss.
Wow, we just got manhandled for the third time in four years against the Aggs in cowtown. The only bright spot was Big Dex having a breakout game.
Also, I don't want to be Mark Turgeon but the officiating was absolutely dreadful.
by FNJ on Jan 30, 2008 10:16 PM CST reply actions
Officiating
Although Texas did not bring their A game, the officiating definitely favored the home crowd.
What made me want to take a baseball bat to the t.v. was the way A&M was playing such a physical game but yet did a quote un-quote "good job" keeping a straight face as if they were playing fairly.
When a Texas player finally lost their cool, the Oscar winning aggie would step back and act like a bitchy victim of the situation when they were instigating all of it.
When Dex got called for a technical...WTF!!! It wasn't a jump ball to begin with. Dex had full possesion and was fouled by the aggie reaching in.
Every time we did get the ball into the paint, we had to get fouled 3 or 4 times before the refs would blow the whistle. What a joke.
I hate to lose to the f-ing sheep f-ers...
... especially in such an uninspired performance. When or against who do we get fired up?
heart wasn't the issue

you can only do so much with what god gave you
our bigs are raw
no post up moves
getting picked off on picks
not transitions
getting boxed the hell out
the aggies play a rough style
and face it ... our bigs don't have the foot work to get with that yet
and that was on the defensive end ... that's how we got in a hole
turn around on the offensive end
our star wasn't very starrific because he was getting bodied
our 2nd start ... dj wasn't very good today
aj is off and on
conner was off
it's amazing the score wasn't worse
and sometimes ... it just happens that way
i would've like to see mason take it to the rim more

One of those games
I'm chalking this up to "one of those games". We miss 10+ free throws, play bad defense, miss open shots when we get them and aggies get most of the breaks. That all adds up to a big loss. I don't think this means we're less of a team than I thought we were last night, but it is a long way from the giddimess I felt after the UCLA win. My expectations have changed big time since then.
While we're in a tough conference
be consistently good ... or just consistently bad ... or perhaps i should just lower my expectations and expect nothing ...
by texfite on Jan 30, 2008 10:34 PM CST up reply actions
Missed Free Throws
You're right...Texas was having a tremendously hard time making free throws last night.
The "white out" and the distractions behind the basket contributed greatly to it. It reminds me a lot of how they tell pitchers in NCAA baseball they cannot wear white sleeves, in fact they can only wear the color matching their jersey, because it makes it difficult to see the ball released from the pitcher's hand otherwise.
Anyway...Damion James was having an awful time making free throws. I think the fans and their distracting cult unison of throwing up their hands when the player raised to shoot contributed to most of the missed free throws.
I kept thinking...why not fake the fans out by acting as if you are pulling up to shoot the free throw and then pause until they reached the peak of their queerness... then get off a quick "undistracted" free throw.
Then you could laugh at them for being so simple minded. They would have been so confused. "What do we do now Mr. Yell Leader sir? You didn't prepare us for this!
That is actually illegual
Unless it is part of your regular shooting motion, the reff can waive off the free throw. The reason for this is players could pump fake freethrows until the other team jumps, then shoot and if they miss they get another try because it is a lane violation.
Losing to the aggies.
I can deal with an occasional loss to them in football, but i can't deal with a loss at basketball. We are a superior program and yet they, lately, have gotten the better of us. What gives?
It seems like they always have the game of their lives against us. Josh Carter just had his best game of the season.
Now, I have to deal with Aggie crap for a month or so now. "You can't even beat us at basketball anymore."
by FNJ on Jan 30, 2008 10:29 PM CST reply actions
Split
They haven't got the better of us, we have at worst split with them the last couple of years. As much as we might not like it, they have an actual Bball program. Ours is still better, but they are goof enough and talented enough to make winning on the road there an accomplishment. Not like the guaranteed beat-downs of old. We have to play well to win on the raod and it just didn't happen tonight.
Aggies win
so I guess that means Gillespie gets all the credit.
