Football to play a Thursday night game in 08
Per the Statesman both Texas and USC will play one Thursday night ESPN-televised game in 08. USC will play Oregon State, but which Texas game it will be is TBA. They said it won't be FAU or OU, and the likely bet IMO is Arkansas.

Friday should be fun
Guess I need to make sure my schedule next fall doesn't include any Friday classes.
why the hush hush?
ESPN makes it sound as though they already know who the opponent is, but has declined to say. Perhaps the papers aren't signed? Arkansas would be pretty exciting, but it wouldn't surprise me if it turned out to be UTEP.
hope its not the Arkansas game
There is no way we should ever play a road game on a Thursday night (home team covered almost every point spread on Thursday). I'm guessing it could be either Rice, Okie State, or Baylor.
Arkansas to me...
is a great pick for primetime Saturday Night. Being old rivals from SWC days and both teams should be pretty good next season.

How could Arkansas be any good next year?
No Monk, no Nutt, and chances are no McFadden and no Felix Jones. Its just a matter of time before these two bolt. Good luck building an offense around Dick. No pun intended.
Die hard Hog fans I know see no reason to be optimistic.

I would have to say...
UTEP would be the Thursday night opponent.

The....
....prostitutes of Belmont strike again.
indeed
There's no reason Texas should ever be playing a regular season game (save for A&M) on any day other than Saturday. Little schools are free to sacrifice tradition for national exposure and a check if they feel the need, but Texas needs neither. There are only a handful of home games per year and to eliminate the pageantry of one of those traditional saturday games is ridiculous for a school like Texas.
OU played Tulsa on friday night this year and I laughed at them because it feels so "ACC/Big East" of them to do so. And now I'm just annoyed.
I...
...I don't know what to say. I want to frame this conversation in glass and put it in a museum.
[wipes away tears] I love you all! I love you all so much!
Disappointing
when I see HC followed by BZ and then Wells, I expect fireworks. Are you sure BZ wasn't being sarcastic?
Nah
HC and I agree about a fair amount of things. It just so happens that our main disagreement is over the coaching staff and that's primarily what HC posts about. We also have a fundamental disagreement about the proper tone of arguments, but that's all.
Re:
Agree, has to be a non-con. No way the administration agrees to put a Thursday nighter in the middle of a brutal conference schedule.
Re:
Per AAS:
Texas Athletic Director DeLoss Dodds strongly denied that the Longhorns will play a Thursday night football game next season, as asserted by an ESPN spokesman, unless it is the Texas A&M-Texas game on Thanksgiving.
"That’s not true," Dodds said of the announcement by ESPN vice-president Chuck Gerber that his network has signed up Texas to a Thursday game. "We’ve been asked to play A&M on (Thanksgiving) Thursday, but have not given them an answer. But we’re not going to play a (different) Thursday game."
Dodds said Monday afternoon there is no timeframe for a decision on moving the annual rivalry game between the Aggies and Longhorns back to Thanksgiving.
"But we’re not going to play a (different) Thursday game, period," Dodds said, "unless it’s A&M. We’ve not talked to A&M about it."
Dodds’ objections to moving any other game to a Thursday include general parking issues, problems with faculty parking, students’ classes and fan’s midweek travel plans. Dodds said he only deals with Dave Brown, ESPN’s vice president of programming and acquisitions.
I really hope this is true
I would like to see the aTm game moved back to T-day. Any other game would just seem weird.

That would be great
Those Thursday night games vs. the aggies were something to behold - even though we always lost when I was in school. Playing on Friday at 11 seems so lame in comparison. Night games in general are great and I wished we did more of them.
Our record against atm on espn...
is not great. I think during the 1 - 10 run, the game we won was on CBS or something and the rest were espn. I do not like when we play on espn. Our record suck.
Only win during that span
was on Saturday on CBS. That was 1990 - the Shock the Nation year for those old enough to remember. I think we won 28-27 by stuffing a aggie 2-pt conversion in the waning minutes. We then went on to get the beat-down (literally and figuratively) by Miami in the Cotton Bowl - a game I was also at. 46-3 in the sub-freezing temps - lots of fun...
Those were different times when we were almost completely devoid of legitimate talent.
I thought that was the case...
I was stuck in the Saudi Desert and watched it the day the ground war started. It was either a goal lince stance or failed 2-pt conversion.
I hate any game on espn because of our record. If you go back into the 80's, I think we sucked bad. Maybe a couple of wins but way more loses.
Failed 2-pt conversion
Bucky Richardson scores with 3:46 left in the game. The Aggies call a time out and as they returned to the game CBS had a camera crew in the huddle as they called the play on the side-lines.
Aggies run the option to the right side and Mark Berry and half the Horn defense was all over them. Berry tackles Darren Lewis for the loss.
Anyway, I'm just glad we won't be playing Baylor on Thanksgiving like we did in '94 and '95.
So remember BONers
Next time you see a press release from ESPiN, get out your handy Executive Org Chart and make sure it was the proper Vice President that broke the story!
I read:
Texas and USC playing on a Thursday night, as in eachother. I quickly realized I was an idiot, though.
Texas vs. A&M is going back to Tday night
$ Bill Byrne has confirmed that T+1 is moving back to Thanksgiving night.

Yeah, but who had the first word?
And without that word there was no last word.
