Darrell Scott: I Love Everything About Texas

This is somewhat old news (Jan 3rd), but I just saw it and haven't seen it posted here. Here is a link of an interview with Darrell Scott: Scout

Star-divide

IT: With Jamaal Charles gone, does that make Texas more enticing than Colorado?

Scott: Oh yeah. No doubt.

Scott: [..] With Texas, I just love everything. Really there’s no cons. I love everything about Texas.

IT: Is it really a Colorado-Texas race for you?

Scott: And maybe Florida can hop in the driver’s seat if they show me a good time.

Florida?

Why would a running back want to go to Florida, only to be ignored by the offensive scheme?

why does any recruit go anywhere...chics man!

Brantly stiffed us because of a skirt, and if anyone has seen the photo of Tebow and a fellow Florida coed that was making the rounds around mid-season I'd surely have been doing my best to get that Heisman stiff arm going as well!

Bottom line, its nice that Jamaal's departure makes this kid more keen on UT, but let's not get ahead of ourselves.  We've had super high lvl recruits break our hearts on a yearly basis its seems and I'm just not sure what exactly appeals to the modern recruit.  Comments like "...if they show me a good time." and earlier ones from him that he expects to start right away as a freshman are big red flags to me.  This kid could come to UT and when he finds out that he's expected to pass protect on occassion [and lets say he's not that good at it like most stud HS RB's] he might just transfer if he doesn't feel like he's been used correctly.

It's crazy to us old-timers but the new millenium's recruits are promised the moon and they expect the promise to be kept.  They don't much care for the 'reality' of three years of blue chippers ahead of them, or the idea of putting in your time on the practice field first.

Until the LOI is signed I'm almost numb to what these kids do and say since they so rarely bother to stick to anything verbal.  Does 'Jerry Mcguire' come mind anyone, "My word is my bond, its as strong as OAK!!!"

I saw some TV interviews

with this guy.  He's a "me first" guy.  Go to Florida.  We don't need that.

This isn't basketball

having an O.J. Mayo type personality won't destroy the team like in basketball.

Football is the ultimate team game, and we have plenty of characters that will set Scott straight.

Darrell Scott is a bad ass. I would be surprised if he wasn't a "me first" guy.

yep

there's nothing wrong with being "me first" if "me" is a total ass kicker.

It's arguable, and I'm not necessarily trying to start that argument, but there is a certain benefit in self-aggrandizement.  Personally, I'd much rather have somebody who wants the rock than someone who can't hack the pressure.

I've got no problem

with a guy being confident and having a little ego.  I think it can have a good effect when I guy talks big about an upcoming game or calls out teammates when they aren't performing.  It's this "Roger Clemens" mentality of "I'm the best thing to set foot on a football field now show me how much you want me" that bothers me.  Talk big once you're on a team.  In the meantime, show some respect for the process and the teams involved.  Up till right now all you are is a great high school player.

the roger clemens card?

Ouch, that's low.  :-)

I don't think anyone can match clemens' selfishness.  I think Scott would actually bother himself to travel with the team.

Why, yes, I am a bitter Astros fan.  Thanks for asking.

I haven't seen any TV interviews

Only print interviews, but I don't get that sense that he's overwhelmimgly "me first".  I can understand the arguement, but try to see his side of the arguement.

  1. He switched schools so he could win a state title.  If it were allowed and you knew it could springboard you to bigger and better things, wouldn't you?  It's not like he broke any rules by transferring.
  1. He's taking his time to make sure that he chooses the right school.  This guy is a sure bet to go pro after college.  He should take his time and make sure that he's getting into the perfect situation for him.  Not you or any fan of any other school.
  1. This guy has probably been told that he's the best and been given preferential treatment since Pee Wee leagues.  Is it difficult to consider that he is a product of his environment?  A little attitude never hurt anyone.  Especially in football.  I would bet just about anything that Vince has a little of this cockyness about him, too.  But he's won a national title for Texas, so he's forgiven?

D. Scott is one HELL of a player and has earned the right to be a little cocky.  But every high school player in the country has a "me first" attitude when it comes to recruiting.  They have to.  This is a huge decision to make that will change the rest of their lives.  And for those talented (and fortunate) enough that they can extend their career past college the decision becomes that much more critical.  A little patience is quite refreshing.  I'd rather see us not get D. Scott than to have him rush in and say "Texas is where I'm going" only to change his mind later.

all true

And I can't imagine I was the only person hoping that Perrilloux would be crushed every time he touched the ball last night.

The few interviews I have seen

He has come across as a very confident, intelligent guy.  Obviously I don't know him from Adam but, he is a big and fast manchild.  I'm pretty sure an Orakpo spanking in practice will set him on the right path regardless.
