Colorado, the last time

Since the subject of the 2005 Big 12 championship game has come up this week, let's take a look back. The template then was two-fold: Last hurdle cleared, on to the Rose Bowl and USC; the debacle of the Big 12 title game in 2001 was put to rest.

As a result, some of what happened in Houston that day was quickly swept aside. To refresh your memory (and mine):

**In winning 70-3, Texas scored 4 TDs each in the second and third quarters. The game went from 14-3 a minute into the second quarter to 70-3 less than halfway through the third quarter. Anybody team ever do that in a title game?

**Horns scored 4 TDs in 12 minutes of the second quarter and beat that with 4 TDs in 8 minutes of the third. That's 56 points in 20 minutes!!!!!! Surely, nobody ever beat that!

**Texas had TD drives of 65 yards in less than two minutes, 71 yards in less than three minutes, 68 yards in less than four minutes. They had TD drives of 16 and 26 yards after recovering fumbles and 46 yards after a 54-yard KO return, plus scoring on a blocked punt.

**They had 11 explosive plays in a little over two quarters. With the game far out of reach, they ran out the clock with 20-plus runs (mostly straight handoffs) and two passes over the game's final 22 minutes, thus keeping the score at 70 when mid-80s was easily attainable.

And we think this year's team was explosive.

Hopefully you continue with that attitude of living in the past

Fact was that Colorado team you played was being coached by a guy on his way out the door and everyone knew it, and the team had no passion and probably could of cared less about that game, give yourself credit, you had some amzaing athletes, but I am guessing this time around will be a little different.

I meant this as no putdown

of the Colorado team, players or coaches. It was simply a look at one of the 2005 Texas team’s best performances. I fully expect both teams to play well this week; unfortunate that Buffs have been so hard-hit by injuries.

That’s a fail.

Good catch

A shame too since I live in Portland now, I have corrected the error.

Had it been up to......

DeLo$$ and JIm Hicks, that deadpan would have been our new HC in 1998. They had already offered him the job at a airport hotel just outside of Chicago. When told of the “hire”, Doug English and Coach Royal told DeLo$$ they would refuse to endorse the hire. They went on to tell them they were on their way to interview their new HC Mack Brown. Hicks and DeLo$$ were free to join them if they wanted. Next time you see them, be sure to thank Doug and Coach Royal.

Who's living in the past?

Sure things will be different this year. Colorado will get to experience a mudhole stomping at home this time instead of in Houston.

I am sure we will

I mean Texas is such god like football team, we a so small and scared, probably won’t even show up for the game, I am sure that we are quaking in our cleats right now. Same attitude Oklahoma showed up with last year and see where that got them, all I was trying to say was that trying to compare that sometimes games are taken out of context: For that title game Texas was amped up and gearing towards a national showdown with USC, we were getting ready to can Gary Barnett and the team knew it, so they didn’t really care or show up.

Taken out of context?

He just explained what happened in the game. Sounds like you’re still upset about, as coach Darian Hagan put it, “being clowned.” Make whatever excuses you want, there’s still a pretty stark, inescapable truth that the game was a mammoth beat down.

Absolutely

…agree with you. But I’ll take it a step further and wonder if Broncoman was completely and thoroughly embarrassed by his teams performance in that travesty of a football game.

I remember how I felt as a fan after Horn’s debacles like the Miami game, the UCLA game, and the OU smack fest of 2003. I wonder if Buffs fans feel the same way or just blow off the loss because their coach quits on them?

I am pretty sure

That a team would care very dearly if they had a chance to win the Big XII championship, no matter what the circumstances

Sore Subject, Apparently

I mean, the post was just a look back at how explosive the 2005 team was, no slight to Buffs ‘05 or ’08, and this guy starts to whinin’. Seems like a lot of people there are trying to work up some kind of indignation over that event. I mean, if the coach was on the way out and the players didn’t care, why should you?

I mean, no one is expecting a 70-3 beatdown against Colorado playing at home.

Just 52-10 will be fine, thanks.

As long as it’s by three touchdowns, I’ll be content. I really don’t want them showing anything they’re trying to keep under wraps for the OU game.

Re: burntorangehorn

You must be young…we don’t really keep anything for the OU game, that idea just floats around every year to cover for any seeming deficiencies that the team may have leading up to the OU game. We are typically even more conservative on offense when the big game in Dallas rolls around, then after that we’re reborn and Lord help the team we play the next week.

GD…Mack….please prove this comment wrong.

If I remember correctly

we beat them down pretty badly in Austin earlier that year as well. If I’m correct I would guess they talked about getting their revenge in the championship game that year.

Plus, playing for a conference championship never means nothing to players. Hell, the aggies played fine against us for their coach they knew was out the door last year when it was for nothing but pride.

Here’s hoping this shot at revenge for the buffs turns out as well as the last one.

Colorado

Are we really still talking about this game, Colorado? I would think, and this is just me, the state of Colorado and the fans of CU would want to do anything but bring up the butt-whooping that you got in ’05.

Mack Brown did not run up the score, no one wronged you. You were not the first team we demolished that season, and were not the last. Yet here we are, defending a victory from 2005.

Lets all just take a collective deep breath (a little deeper for the thin air up there for you guys), and understand that we killed you, like we killed most of the teams we played that year. Deep. Breath.

Haha

You guys posted about it. How could we not talk about it? Besides, it’s the last time we played and there was one interview where Hagan was quoted as talking about it and now everyone thinks we “can’t get over it”. I really don’t think any Buff fans are dwelling on it that much. I am more interested your confidence in a tough road game, that turned into a trap for the Sooners last season. This weekend last year you guys were playing a terrible K-State team that had beaten you the previous year and I would be willing to bet that you guys thought you were going to crush them and get your retribution.

I think Texas wins, probably just on either side of the spread (which is why I am laying off this game), but I certainly don’t see a “mudhole stomping at home”.

CU is Weak

…and we’re looking forward to tender buffalo. What’s the spread at now? +14? We cover easy.

Has it been raining in Boulder? Point me to the nearest mudhole!

How much did you put on it?

If you’re that sure about it you could make some serious scrilla.

Oh I dont disagree

and I ask that you please try to stay away from their knees. We lose anymore lineman and we might have to start playing 8 man.
