I am completely drained!

I am drained of all emotion right now. i do not know what to do. i cannot get drunk right now because i am home alone with my 11 month old son ( the wife does not like to be around for Horns’ games). I have not felt like this since 2005 Rose Bowl watching Vince on that 4th down run. Let’s enjoy this one for the day and get ready for another big one next saturday.

Who woulda thought we’d out-rush them by 120!?!

Zero turnovers to OU’s 2. Turnovers alwayss win this game.

I’ll easily take Chris O at RB for the rest of the year.

How bout Cody Johnson? 3 Carries, 4 yards, 3 TDs. Power at the goalline!!

crazy

but i didnt think id ever be able to feel that way after the VY era was over. i think we all thought that the VY was an anomaly for GD. as in, the offense was essentially idiot proof with VY at the helm. but today, to come out in the spread, and pass to set up the run, I just never thought I would see that kind of initiative and ingenuity ever again in the Mack Brown era.

I told my friend in the third quarter...

“I know Bradford has 4 td’s but would you ever trade Colt for him?” Hell no. Colt outplayed Bradford today even though statistically Bradford had a better game.

by the1austin on Oct 11, 2008 3:06 PM CDT up reply actions

Colt's good judgment on runs played a key role in fourth.

Just enough to befuddle OU’s defense. And those laser passes were beautiful to behold. Bradford threw at about 72% and some of that was throw aways due to the rush.

Colt clearly led when it was most needed. That’s what great QBs do.

Ogbonnaya is a tailback! I’m happy the team has its featured back now. The guy isn’t a star, but he’s been clutch. I hope he has some more tricks in his bag for Mizzou.

by burntorangehorn on Oct 11, 2008 3:17 PM CDT reply actions

so what do you think about

Chiles as tailback? I like the idea but it didn’t seem to be too productive today.

by SelimSivad on Oct 11, 2008 3:18 PM CDT reply actions

I agree. I think that was more for getting him in the game.

As the back-up QB, you’d like for him to not go out there stone cold. A couple of plays at least gets him bloodied a little bit and eases the nerves a little. I think it was tactical and a smart move, even if the couple of plays didn’t work out too well.

by whills on Oct 11, 2008 3:21 PM CDT up reply actions

i thought maybe GD was trying to set them up for a trick play later.

by SelimSivad on Oct 11, 2008 3:24 PM CDT up reply actions

Could have been. OU played pretty deep, esp. later in the game.

That 37-23 split on time of possession was the big factor; we wore the defense down and they had to adjust for their own tiredness and be more careful and bend-not-break.

by whills on Oct 11, 2008 3:30 PM CDT up reply actions

I said before the season that DeMarco Murray has been overrated since birth. The guy is NOT a great running back, and in fact, he’s not even the best back on his team. OU should be feeding it to Chris Brown, not Murray. I’m really glad they didn’t though.

by burntorangehorn on Oct 11, 2008 3:20 PM CDT reply actions

OU's ability to run sets up their offense. Stop that and you stop them.

That’s a four-quarter strategy but obviously it worked. They couldn’t run and thus couldn’t eat up much time and keep the Horn D on the field. Quick TDs played against them, and esp. their fast operating pace.

by bigfatdrunk on Oct 11, 2008 3:21 PM CDT reply actions

Early indication is that the Mizzou game will be at 7 p.m.

The locker room (from radio) sounds like bigfatdrunk: delerious, excited and within a few minutes drained and wore out. But still smiling with big shit eatin’ grins. The players are very humble about this, not too high.

Were y’all in better shape late in the game? Ulatoski: we’ve been running the no-huddle, we’re in pretty good shape.

All those games where McCoy played late in the game kept the OL in there: that paid off.

by hookemkp on Oct 11, 2008 3:36 PM CDT reply actions

Okay, it’s time for UT to break the pattern of falling #1s. Step one: vs. Mizzou.

That is, if UT is #1. Either way, BEAT MIZZOU!

The problem is that Jeremy Maclin is a lot more slippery than Broyles, and Chase Coffman is a lot better (collegiate) tight end than Jermaine Gresham.

by burntorangehorn on Oct 11, 2008 3:38 PM CDT reply actions

We might not be #1 coming into polls, we’ll see how LSU does

by MJY6087 on Oct 11, 2008 3:40 PM CDT up reply actions

I guess what I’m saying is that he and Coffman are dudes who can take advantage of the freshman safeties. Earl Thomas gave up a few big plays, including the long touchdown. I think they’re going to have to stick Muckelroy on Coffman and have him slam him at the line as much as possible. I think the best way to approach Maclin is to play Brown on him as much as possible.

by burntorangehorn on Oct 11, 2008 3:45 PM CDT up reply actions

Texas should be #1.

No team has a more impressive victory than the one we just saw on national tv. I also think OU should stay at about #7-8.

1. Texas
2. Alabama
3. MiZZOU (Can pass Alabama with a blowout against the Pokes)
4. LSU (can move past MiZZOU and Alabama with a big win in the swamp).

History

From ESPN

With the win, Texas (6-0, 2-0 Big 12) grabs the inside track in both the conference and national championship races. History shows the Longhorns should think big. The last two teams to come out of this game unbeaten — Oklahoma in 2004, Texas in 2005 — went to the national title game. And the last time the Longhorns knocked off the Sooners when they were No. 1 was 1963, which turned into Darrell Royal’s first national championship.

Destiny. Yes. We can dream. However, the players go back to work Sunday. But, from the locker room, they already know that are ready to work. Great attitude.

by whills on Oct 11, 2008 3:51 PM CDT reply actions

I hope we all see why UT didn’t bother recruiting Chase Daniel next Saturday. :)

by burntorangehorn on Oct 11, 2008 3:54 PM CDT up reply actions

It will be a dog fight. Daniel makes great decisions himself.

Even with our improving D, OU, Mizzou and Tech are powerful offenses. Other teams will be crying many tears due to them. If we can get to Bradford, we can get to Daniell, too.

It comes down to Mizzou’s D. Can they stop us?

BTW Muschamp talked about the bust on Gresham.

And so did Earl. They were supposed to have double coverage on him – which Earl said they did most of the game – but on that play both of them (the safety and the LB) blew the coverage. They didn’t make that mistake the rest of the game.

Earl also said they worked hard on tackling this week and are getting better. Probably hard to drop back to basics in the midst of preparing for an opponent, but definitely necessary with the younger secondary. We didn’t let the OU receivers break away for TDs and that’s a strong point. It wasn’t perfect, but obviously Muschamp preaches to stop the outright TDs and give yourself and your D a second chance.

by whills on Oct 11, 2008 4:06 PM CDT reply actions

The great thing about a win like this...

…is that this team as a core unit still has one more full season together! We add a quality RB in the offseason (I think we have the #9 RB National Recruit verbally committed), another good WR, and we have another season of potential greatness to look forward to! The 2008 and 2009 seasons could line up just like the 2004 and 2005 seasons…

While the penalties and fluke plays were nerve-racking, I am glad that the calls ended up balancing out for both teams so we don’t have to listen to OU fans all season complain about bad calls (Oregon anyone?) being the reason that they didn’t make the national championship.

No time to rest on our merits as Mizzou and another Heisman candidate awaits us next week! However, I say tomorrow should be a national holiday so we can soak it in all we can for a day!

also, drunk. and happy. Colt, OB-won, Shipley, Gideon, Rak, Kindle, Muschamp, and heck, even GD. what a freakin’ fantastic game. I know part of the momentum swung our way because I bought some “OU SUKS” beer and wore my new UT shirt. Ya know, I’m just sayin’.

Seriously, a sweet victory, and kudos to our guys and our coaches for this great win and this great football game.

Time for a nap.

And oh yeah, it’s 5:48 and OU most definitely still sucks.

mark may butt hurt

mark may still will not give any love to Texas. i am starting to think that the University of Texas somehow hurt his feelings someway. he is now butt hurt because the two band wagons he has jumped on this year ( oklahoma and usc) have gotten their butts beat. honestly what does he know about being a college football analyst, he was an offensive lineman. i guarantee he picks missouri to beat Texas next weekent.

Whoa all you Mark May Haters

I don’t like the guy by any means, but him and Lou Holtzth both agreed that Texas should be the number one team in the country after the pasting today.

In all seriousness though, I cant recall a time when I felt this damn good about a regular season game, save for the 05 OSU game. Texas took a superior opponent and shut them down. As far as talent levels go, I think Texas is a less talented team than Oklahoma, but the Horns did something that they have seldom done and that was play above their expectations. I couldnt be happier for those “untested” freshman DBs, who did more than their share of damage to the Sooners, and I’ve got nothing but appreciation for Shipley and Quan, who made their last RRS the most memorable one yet.

The sky is the limit ladies and gentlemen; I dont care who is left on the schedule, if Texas plays week in and week out like they did today, they are going to crush some people and have a definite shot at a National Championship. I just find it ironic that on the eve of the BCS rankings, the “up and coming” team from the SEC and the “almost there” team from the Big XII could go 1-2 in the BCS polls.

You really hit it, Bendj

when you mention Texas playing above expectations. We here in blogger land CANNOT EVER be satisfied - but today we were. I’m not convinced Texas’ talent level is below OU; Sooners have more quality receivers but the best two were No. 6 and No. 8. KO coverage is part of talent. No turnovers is talent and coaching.

It’s also college football. The next opponent — and they’re gonna be plenty mad — is the next threat (look at gagging W. Virginia at the end of last season, USC at Corvallis, Florida against Ole Miss, Appy State and Toledo in the Big House).

i just got home from the cotton bowl

and my first UT OU game and it was special. it was amazing. it was every other generic superlative and then some.

two of my favorite things were: seeing half of the cotton bowl empty and the other half going crazy and every UT fan cheers (even though there are only about half as many UT fans as DKR it’s about 10 times as loud)

It's late

and probably no one will read this, but…

I tried to keep my emotions in check for the entire morning week leading to this game and then during the game. Five minutes after the victory I crashed and didn’t wake up for six hours. Was is a dream? No, it was the best damn regular season football game I have ever seen and I am so proud of the Longhorns.

I absolutely love Colt McCoy and Will Muschamp.

May VY be with you.

Hey man, dont sweat it...

Im sure most of us did something strange after the game. I for one, threw myself fully clothed into the family pool postgame, because I didnt know what else to do. I must agree with you though, EXCELLENT GAME.

Wifey asked me where she could get one of those pom squad outfits with the chaps and such. She says she’ll wear one and have another female friend or two wear other UT stuff for me sometime soon. I’m so glad I married a good woman.

Okay, Mizzou lost, but I sure hope this doesn’t bite Texas. Daniel and Co. will be very hungry after feeling like they didn’t get to hit their stride against a team they should’ve beaten, and UT is coming off an emotional game. Keep focused and take care of business, guys! Good win!

Mizzou was just overrated

Great offense, but Muschamp’s D will be able to contain them. On the other hand, I have no idea how they’re going to stop McCoy and our rejuvenated running game that could have Fozzy back.
