Ohhhhhhh...
I kinda liked being under the radar, although probably a moot point after yesterday’s game.

Noo!
I’ll take #2 thank you…god now we have a target on our backs…
by owenh on Oct 12, 2008 12:04 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
Good, I want a target
Champions play like champions in October and January.
Mizzou, OSU, and Texas Tech have terrible defenses. If Texas plays and coaches like Saturday’s win over OU, then we should run the table.
BTW, the Big 12 is just terrible this year.

Texas now has 4 top-15 teams on their remaining schedule
Now’s not the time to let #1 go to our heads.
Life is an Occasion. Rise to it.

No chance of this going to our head
Not with our schedule remaining at least. If we had an easy road ahead then maybe but I doubt our guys will let this go to their head.

Did anybody else hear Lou Holtz trash Colt McCoy on College Gameday Final?
He didn’t realize that they were still on the air and he went after Rece Davis for declaring that so far, this year, Colt is having the best season of any QB in college football. He apologized at the end of the show for cussing. I half-heard what he said but it was something like “How the hell could you say Colt’s better than Tebow. Colt was awful last year.” (obviously not a quote, but it happened fast).

haha that old FART
yes he was saying “it was only one game, ONE DAMN GAME!” Rece Davis was looking at him like you old son of a B. take a nap already

I found the video clip and posted it as a Fanshot.
It wasn’t too bad, but it was funny to see him lose it a bit.

Lou Holtz was the only pundit to predict UT victory over OU
so I’ll cut Lou some slack.
2007 was Colt’s worst season so far. For sure Tebow, who won the Heisman last year, was better than Colt last year.
Lou is just a little bitty guy in his 70’s but I admire his spunk, attitude, energy, and knowledge. He is a fighter and a funny guy. The world will be a worse place when he shuffles off this mortal coil.

You've never seen the "Dr. Lou" segments have you?
He also said several times that Colt has better stats then Vince did “when he won the Heisman.”

Dr. Lou knows who should have won that year.
Old age does that to you. You forget what really happened.

Fear factors?
Not so nervous about MU after last night, especially since we get them in Austin. Thank god we get the Cowboys at home, too. My highest FF is Tech. In Lubbock, Tech is always trouble, no matter how good their record is. But I tell you, after OU, I feel like we can beat anybody the rest of the way … at least until January.

I remember when Vince beat them up there
They talked shit all week. VY took it into his own hands and they were walking out mid way through the 3rd quarter. Would that not be great to happen again? But you are right, that could be trouble. Early kickoff would be ok for me even though I hate the rooster kickoff.

questionable rankings
Now is the interesting time of year when pollsters must decide whether good one-loss teams should be ranked higher than decent no-loss teams.
For what it’s worth, I do not see how USC can be ranked so high (no great wins, and a loss to a very average team) — certainly not higher than Okie State (great win on the road), OU, or Florida.
With the strength of the Big 12 and SEC, it is very likely the MNC will be played between teams wit h at least one loss (although I would love for UT to run the table!).
by Allaha on Oct 12, 2008 2:01 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
You're right about USC.
But it’s ffffing USC. They’re the Notre Dame of the new milennium. Win, pollsters love the Trojans. Lose, they still love the Trojans. All USC losses are alibied away, somehow. Notre Dame used to get that kind of break in the polls. Not true anymore; Irish really should have been 24-25 before losing to N. Carolina.
Two years ago, when USC lost to Oregon State, the assumption was they were gone. Nope. Had they not blown the UCLA game, it would have been USC-Ohio State ’sted Florida-Ohio State for BCS title.

understand but...
I think the guys are playing with a new identity. They dont need a 6’5" 230 lb QB named Vince to be ranked number 1. This is a new team that plays as a TEAM. They have an amazing front 7 and a respectable young secondary which will keep us in games and our depth on the defensive side of the ball is whats going to keep wins in our column. On offense we may have finally found our 2nd dimension on the ground with OG and CoJo. This is a team to be feared and all around, this is the best team Texas has had in a long time. The 2005 team had all studs but VY and Huff commanded everything. We dont have the superstar weapons…just a superstar team. We deserve this ranking.
Yes being number one puts a target on our back, but that target would’ve been there if we were ranked number 2. At the end of the regular season there is no difference. Both will play for the MNC. All we have to do is keep winning and playing how we play every game. If we play like we did yesterday, we will NOT lose another game. Its not that hard to believe in it…

Not to nit pick...
Last time was going into Texas/ou October 13th, 1984. We were first ranked on 10/8 after we beat Rice. I call 10/13/84 the day Texas Football died until Mack pulled us out with the help of Major. He got us back into the neighborhood, we bought a house there a few years later, and 2005 be deservered to be there. While I don’t like being on top of the hill right now (rather be in Jan), it sure beats where we ended up at the end of that season.

Now that we're ranked #1, there's only one thing left to do...
Win the whole damn thing.
