Slow Down Everybody
Yeah, I said it
I am the biggest Longhorn fan this side of the Mississippi and I can still remember the days when dear ole' Pete went 4-0 in his career against OU, who still sucks! Yesterday was great Ya'll! One that I will remember forever and one that I am happy to say that my 4 year old daughter will remember, who by the way, knows when she sees anything GOD's color she throws up the horns on her little right hand. What a way to start off your Texas-OU (sucks) memories!!! I like many of you, spent most of the evening yesterday reading and gathering and soaking in all that I could from the web and TV; posts, comments, articles, and replays of our victory yesterday which was the biggest since that glorious January day in 2005. But can we please SLOW DOWN? I quit drinking a while back so I have spent most of last night and today thinking about what we must do from here on out.
Yesterday, in between my singing of Texas Fight and running up and down the house, much to my children's amusement and my wife's anger; I quickly set the DVR for Mizzou-OKST and LSU-UF and made my way out the door to finally do Family Stuff. I physically was present at the wedding shower for my Brother in Law and his fiance' last night but my mind and emotions were already in DKR at 8pm EST on Saturday, Oct 18.
So, yes, I will say it again, Can we Please Slow Down? But more importantly, can we get focused?
I know, call me a Kill Joy or Lame-O or Party Pooper. No Matter
I want to win the Big XII South, Championship, and the 2008 BCS National Championship, in that order, more than anyone shy of the team or PB, maybe even more than him. I think Colt McCoy can and should win the Heisman based on what he has done and who he has done it to. Maybe it's the Marine in me who won't feel comfortable until all opposition is pummeled into oblivion (including Heisman voters) and there is no one left to beat or maybe I am just being cautious. Either way, we still have a lot of football left to play against some teams that can beat us if we let them by looking ahead. Thank You DVR of Mizzou-OKST.
Next week, we have a great opportunity to beat a very good offensive powerhouse followed by a visit from the very same team that beat this juggernaut and then a very dangerous road trip to Lubbock against a team that has a chance to score as long as there is one more snap to play. An always competitive Baylor team visits and then a trip to Lawrence before we get our biggest rival at home even when they are having a bad year. Wheh....I typed that all in one breath!!!
All of these teams have weaknesses that we can exploit but if we get ahead of ourselves here, we wont need to be exploited by them to lose. We will have beat ourselves before the games ever start.
Halfway through the 2008 campaign we are looking good; really good. I couldn't be more proud of this group of kids. We are in a great position to achieve all of the goals that we have set and by most estimations, including mine, ahead of schedule by a year. I wont even pick apart what we did wrong yesterday. That is better left to Coach Brown, Davis and Muschamp who are far better at it than I.
The 2008 Texas-Oklahoma (sucks) game is over. We won! Congratulations! Today we begin preparations for the Chase Daniel-led, Missouri Tigers. We can explot their pass defense. We can run right at them. Our defense can send them back to Columbia with a tracking collar on their neck and a headache from the tranqualizer. Player for player they can't beat us (and that includes #9). Leadership...they dont stand a chance. Coaching...no contest. The real, not the only, but the real enemy we must respect the most is ourselves. Now is not the time to get conservative or careful or celebrate anything. Our boys must continue what they are doing and the fun they have doing it. The awards will come. The stats will come. The wins will not. THEY MUST BE EARNED.
When all is said and done and the newly crowned Heisman trophy winner, Colt McCoy is lifting the National Championship trophy in one hand and the MVP trophy in the other we can....argh...I need to slow down!

Slow down
Not to shoot down your argument, and I recognize that our opinions hold sway over the players of Texas to some extent, but the only downside to getting hyped and thinking about a possible dream run in 08 is the letdown if we lose. There is wisdom in not lighting up the tower with a 1 and buying tickets to the National Championship game right now for both 08 and 09, but as a fan I intend to gloat my ass off tomorrow morning when I go into work.
The national title is now Texas’ to lose in the way that all National Titles are in the hands of the #1 ranked team, but I don’t play on the field and there is no great benefit to me slowing myself and looking at Missouri game tapes and all that since I am not playing.
The real question I’d wonder is how much do you think the fan-base of a school affects the players. I’d say quite a bit so there is a large amount of wisdom in what you are saying. However, if you are going to dream, dream big!
