OU Screen Pass and Illegal Man downfield

I know that Ou had some huge gains on slip screens against our D in several instances on Saturday.  I also know that they scored off of one of them...  After reviwing the video of each of the plays it seems to me that their biggest players were about 5 yards down the field when the ball was caught...  Now before you single me out with the "it is ok if the receiver catches the ball behind the LOS," the receiver was past the LOS by at least 2 yards on each instance.  On the TD that Mnny Johnson scored , the fine folks at ESPN highlighted the player showing the LOS and where the O-linemen were.  Clearly Illegal and should have been flagged...

How could this be missed be officials especially the back judge who is looking for this as well as the side judges.

I wondered this during the game

But I’ve seen similar plays before. The refs weren’t great, but surely they knew the rules on that one, so I’ll defer to them until I see the rule myself and a good explanation. I’m too lazy to look it up right now.

Exactly right

That screen to Manuel Johnson was illegal at least 3 times on Saturday.

The play is legal as long as...

the pass is completed BEHIND the line of scrimmage. OU had a difficult time following the rules on that one, but the refs never made them pay for their mistakes.

I saw ESPN talking about it to.

The thing that is scary about it, is that Mizzou uses that same play real well and has been a homerun play from daniel to maclin a couple of times. Get ready to see it again on saturday. The linebackers are going to have to stay home and pop mr. maclin a time or two like osu did.

I spotted it

I wonder if it’s one of those things UT’s coaches didn’t catch when scouting game film.

I’ve heard of cases where the head coach will get in the referee’s ear before the game to alert him to potential trick plays he might use — and to alert the officials to something the opponent has done in past games that might result in a penalty.

Maybe Mack

should hire one of our BON lawyers as a lobbyist?
