ESPN's Andy Katz - Texas Among Second Tier of Contenders
"The interior is a question for Texas. Connor Atchley is the most experienced player but doesn't provide the beef. Texas needs that to offset wings Damion James and Justin Mason and shooting guards A.J. Abrams and Varez Ward.
Texas will be more perimeter-oriented. Turkey's Dogus Balbay played well over the summer, and if he can handle the transition to the American game, he could be D.J. Augustin's replacement. Augustin was one of the top five players last season. But Texas always has the requisite balance under Barnes to be a player for a Final Four berth."

be a more perimeter orientated team?
wtf? Wasn’t last year a perimeter orientated team? Isn’t our frontcourt like the deepest ever? This analysis goes completely opposite of what I’d though Texas basketball was going to be this season, unless of course I’m wrong which I am a lot.

Agree with you
I think Rick’s gonna strive for a team that punishes in the halfcourt with Pittman & Co.

I agree ...
I don’t think it would even be possible to be more perimeter-oriented than we were last year.
Watch out, I bite.

Crazy shit on OU, too. Did he watch them play last year?
Add in clra2’s comment and Meekrob’s assertion and it’s obvious that Katz is looking through the wrong end of the looking glass.

they lost their best five players to the NBA?
That will tend to hurt a team.

Aren't ignorance/confusion/bombastic drivel (looking at Hotlz) prereq's for an ESPN punditry merit badge?

BU above Kansas???
Now, maybe I’ve been asleep for say, a decade.
I was very impressed with the strides Baylor made last year. But this guy has Baylor over Kansas?!? Kansas reloads every year … they haven’t been down since the Big 12 was formed. Baylor, on the other hand, hasn’t been UP since … EVER.
I’m sure our friends in Waco will improve this year. But let’s not go crazy.
Katz has had a little wacky weed.
Watch out, I bite.

someone needs to explain to me
what the HELL makes people think Baylor is so good?
I’m looking at their schedule from last season, and I still don’t know why people thought they were good. They had two quality wins that I see, beating A&M in College Station in the 5 OT game where Turgeon had his head up his ass, and they beat K-State in Waco. Other than that, their conference wins were against Nebraska (poor), Iowa State (poor), Texas Tech (pathetic), Oklahoma State (even more pathetic), and Colorado. With the exception of A&M and K-State, I don’t think they beat a team with a winning record in conference.
They lost to Colorado in the Big 12 tournament, and were blown out by Purdue in the first round of the Dance, showing they didn’t belong there. If it wasn’t for sympathy from the NCAA for the Dotson situation and the “feel-good story” nature of it, I don’t think Baylor is Dancing.
I still don’t see a post threat from them to make me think they’re a top 3 team in the Big 12.
