of course, but

the schedule being what it is, I’ll take Tech going down to give Texas more of an advantage – after all, if the Ags win it’s not like they’re back in contention all of a sudden. By contrast, Tech losing takes a bit of the pressure off us.

Tech has never deserved love...

Awful fanbase, horrible city, lousy school…

by dimecoverage on Oct 18, 2008 1:34 PM CDT reply actions

I think you guys are underrating Tech here

their red zone defense has been great as has their third down defense. They’re not an elite defensive team, but they’re way better than they have been in past years. on offense, they’re passing as well as they have in previous years, and also have a decent rushing attack to complement it this year.

in this game, their problem has been turnovers. they’re moving the ball like crazy against a&m and when a&m gets into the red zone, they’re holding them to field goals, but they keep turning the ball over.

also, you’re discounting the unbelievable home field advantage they will have against Texas in lubbock.

by billyzane on Oct 18, 2008 1:37 PM CDT reply actions

Tech

…they’re way better than they have been in past years…

That is true, but that doesn’t say all that much.

by dimecoverage on Oct 18, 2008 1:44 PM CDT up reply actions

they've been a top 25 team for the most part

for the last 4 years or so, with a terrible defense and no running game. Add a running game and a decent defense and I think that makes them a potential top 10 team at the end of the year.

by billyzane on Oct 18, 2008 1:46 PM CDT up reply actions

I’ll give you the running game, but I’m still not convinced about their defense. Reprise the old refrain, but they really haven’t played a team that makes me sit up and take notice. When (if) they beat a team with a strong offensive line, then I’ll start to believe.

You mean Mel Kiper was wrong? No way!!

He had Stafford as the #1 QB in the nation. And, he had Cullen Harper as the next best…

by the1austin on Oct 18, 2008 2:11 PM CDT up reply actions

Not just Kiper. Most other major outlets had him #1 among QBs eligible for the 2009 draft as well. I ridiculed it then, and I’m hurting my triceps patting myself on the back about it now. Rivals and Scout had him as the #1 QB recruit in the nation, too. He’s a stiff.

by burntorangehorn on Oct 18, 2008 2:13 PM CDT up reply actions

Oh, but to be fair, I should say that there’s a reason Stafford and Harper are so high on the lists: the list of eligible QBs prior to the season was very, very lackluster. I mean, there are people talking about Bradford as a very early pick at this point, for crying out loud.

by burntorangehorn on Oct 18, 2008 2:17 PM CDT up reply actions

by longhornglory on Oct 18, 2008 2:09 PM CDT reply actions

Vandy’s down a touchdown, but Stafford’s throwing short of his receivers all over the place, can’t convert to save his life, and has thrown two picks. He’s been pretty weak, just like all season and career.

The good news for Stafford is that his completion percentage is up. He’s completed an amazing 12 of 21 (57.1%).

What has happened to that vaunted OU D-Line? I thought they were supposed to be one of the best in the country, certainly the best in the Big XII.

I'm tired of hearing about the SEC.

The Big 12 isn’t given enough credit for the teams that we do have. Maybe Kansas is a good defense, not great, but good. And they are smart enough to take advantage of some inexperience. OU is going to miss Reynolds badly.

Not as worried about OSU now

Nice game today, but it was a one man show. I think Gideon and Thomas can handle Bryant if he gets past the corners, and our line will take care of the 3-headed monster on the ground.

Alabama falling apart again in the second half.. 31-24

Bad conditioning. They’re wearing down. Go Rebs!

by burntorangehorn on Oct 18, 2008 5:18 PM CDT up reply actions

beautiful throw by snead, i’m glad he’s having success at ole miss.

by Displaced Longhorn on Oct 18, 2008 5:16 PM CDT reply actions

Wow, great games happening right now.

Miami beating Duke just 28-24 in the 3rd
Michigan beating PSU 17-14 at the half
OU up 31-24 over KU
UNC over UVA 7-3
’Bama up only 24-17 over Ole Miss

I could happily watch any of these games right now, but I have to go buy a few things for my costume. Crap!

Snead leading a great drive

Miss should get at least a FG on this drive

Getting the first tinges of anxiety...

huge ball-game tonight.

It's okay

You’ve got Orakpo, Kindle, Miller Gideon, Thomas McCoy Ogbonnaya, Shipley, Cosby-should be a great game. Hook Em Horns!

Ole Miss at mid-field 1st down

1:50 left in the game. Down by 4, they’re obviously going for the TD, and that should be the GW since Bama can’t do anything on offense.

by goingforthecorner on Oct 18, 2008 5:40 PM CDT reply actions

Excellent decision on 3rd and long

Get more than half of it and go for the rest on 4th and 5

by HornPossessed on Oct 18, 2008 5:42 PM CDT reply actions

CRAP

INC pass, looks like Bama will survive again.

Bama blitzed, so Snead couldn’t run.

by goingforthecorner on Oct 18, 2008 5:44 PM CDT reply actions

This just in

Total yards of offense in the OU-Kansas game – 30,000. Not really, but it sure looked like it, didn’t it?
