injury updates?

Well, for now I figure no news is good news but I was just curious if anyone had any info regarding the health of Norton.  Also, I was at the game so I may have missed something said during the broadcast but it looked like Chykie Brown sat out just about the entire 2nd half - anything going on there?  Thanks!

Unrelated BUT, someone at the game was claiming that Jared is Ken Norton Jr.'s son.  Any truth to this? I can't find anything that suggests that they are related.

Different Norton

Our Norton is from Rowlett, Texas not LA (where Ken Norton Jr. has coached for the last 4 years).

Also, according to Wikipedia (most reliable of all sources) Ken Norton Jr. has two daughters and a son name Ken.

Please to tell

- Norton looked like he was holding his left arm, immobilized. Didn’t look good as he was coming off the field. Hope it’s not a dislocation or break of any sort.
- Curtis Brown got the nod over Aaron Williams after Chykie went out. Thought that was a little strange.
- I believe the other Horn hurt was David Snow, but I think he went back in the next series.

Other thoughts from the North End Zone:

- The NEZ looks NICE. I wish I had a chance to check out that food court the Godzillatron operators kept advertising.
- The Malcolm Williams TD looked like a surefire INT, and had shades of Dwayne Jarrett in the MNC all over it. Just an amazing catch to watch.
- I have no idea why Dan Buckner was so wide open. Everyone was totally expecting another 10 yard loss, John Chiles fumble on that play.
- The line looked like a well oiled machine. The only plays that didn’t seem to work were the zone-reads that dragged beyond the tackles. I think you really need Fozzy in for those plays…he’s the only one who can get the burst of acceleration in order to hit the hole after such a long delay.
- Speaking of Fozzy, he got an unexpected loud cheer after his 20 yard run. The remaining crowd was buzzing when he first entered.
- On defense, really got to hand it to the secondary on this one. Just a phenomenal effort. Early on, it seemed like the pass rush was good but not spectacular. The utter inability of Daniel to find his targets was truly due to strong work by the defensive backs.
- Even Bobino looked like he had a really good game. It was a little annoying to see him spy Daniel from 7 yards away as Daniel was rolling out of the pocket (Kindle would’ve blown him up), but not really any other complaints.
- Orakpo cannot be stopped, only held.
- Love the kickoff adjustment after Maclin burned us. Great job by Ryan Tucker.
- Hunter Lawrence booted a practice FG from 60. Super sweet.

I hear

Norton’s shoulder had ice but was not in a sling, which tends to indicate it was not too bad, but who knows. One of my favorite parts of the night, Jeter on the Jumbotron being booed. He looked generally perpelexed by the whole thing.

by billb on Oct 20, 2008 9:54 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I agree

how in the hell can you boo Jeter? he’s a consumate ball player. his relay to Posada in the 2001 ALCS vs the A’s is the stuff I’ll be telling my grandkids about. Sure, I hate the yankees, but you just don’t find too many dirtbaggers like Jeter anymore.

ha

He’s been booed at Yankee stadium before.

by andy_wooster on Oct 20, 2008 11:56 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I don't have a dog in this fight.

I do not like the Yankees and don’t really care. I don’t hate Jeter but since he is a Yankee, people will always hate him. I just thought the look on hs face was funny.

by billb on Oct 20, 2008 11:57 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Jeter

2 Theories for the Boos:

1) People were booing themselves for not being with his chick, who was absloute MAGMA. wow.

2) He was standing w/ the Rocket. Has he fallen that far off the perch with the home crowd?

Otherwise it was somewhat inexplicable.

by Horndogger on Oct 20, 2008 3:23 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

haha...correct and correct

Typing way too fast.

Yeah, the Derek Jeter thing was awesome, but uhh, he was there with Minka Kelly. I’d much rather have the cameraman zoom in on her than on the Jeter. Apparently Roger Clemens was there as well, but they didn’t feel the need to sacrifice him to the booing lambs.

I also keep forgetting to call out Muckelroy on these things…he’s so damn awesomely consistent, it’s easy to take him for granted.

by jc25 on Oct 20, 2008 10:20 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

how do you know

that Clemens wasn’t the one getting boo’d? were they on the godzillatron in the same shot? booing Clemens I can understand, but not Jeter.

No Clemens.

I only saw Jeter and Minka Kelly, I can’t imagine she was getting booed.

by billb on Oct 20, 2008 11:58 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Booing Clemens

will never happen in a Texas stadium. It shouldn’t happen. Boo all Clemens haters! Goddamnit.

He is a longhorn legend

and I don’t give a damn if he has cheated on his wife. 50%+ of guys cheat given a good opportunity (Marissa Miller type opportunity).

Steroids are wrong, but give me a juice so that I become a tenured faculty at Stanford, and I take it in a second. BTW, winning multiple Cy Young winners >>> Tenured faculty, but I live in geek/nerd land.

Nope.

You’re entitled to your opinion, but I’d be willing to bet that your blind-eye to the reality of Clemens’ extracurricular activities would be less myopic if you were his wife or his son.

The man may be a legend, but his throne is made of rock, not gold.

OK

Ofcourse if I was his son or his wife(!), I would have thought different. BUT I’m not. I’m a fan, and I don’t see those stuff that important.

Were you supporting Clinton’s impeachment? If so, we have difference of opinion, and that’s fine.

In Mack Brown We Trust!

by Cyrus on Oct 20, 2008 12:45 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Even if you don't respect him,

you shouldn’t boo a Texas legend in a Texas stadium.

I don’t get the argument about Clinton. By your argument, he cheated on his wife, so he can’t be trusted. If he was a baseball player, he would have taken steroid, because he is a cheater. He even lied under oath. If you are a Clinton supporter, that’s double standards IMO.

In Mack Brown We Trust!

Tell me

of a politician you trust. They all lie under oath.

I am a native Austinite. I graduated from UT. I met my wife at UT. I work for UT so does my wife, my mom, and my sister. I love UT and it’s athletics dept.

Regardless, your idea that you shouldn’t boo a Texas “legend” in a Texas stadium is retarded. In the words of Lou Reed “what becomes a legend most”? Is it stats? Rings? Trophies? Who’s a more worthy legend: Major Applewhite or Chris Simms? Why?

If you ask me, Clemens is a chump. He’s a whiner and a liar. He has a lot of Cy Youngs and a WS ring. So what. OJ Simpson won the Heisman and the NFL rushing title. Would you boo him if you saw him on the sideline during a USC game?

Your Clinton argument is specious at best, and me-thinks you could find a better way to paint me and my argument into a corner.

In Mack Brown We Trust!

by Cyrus on Oct 20, 2008 1:50 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

and one of you is right....

but it’s ok… I wouldn’t cheer for Clinton if he was on the sideline either.

Of course he’s a Hog, so he’d be doing the horns down… but then again he’s a politician who’s made his living pandering… so he’d be doing his “when in Rome” thing and horns up… although if you asked him in Austin whether he is a Hog fan, he’d probably resort to philosophizing about what “is” is…

On the whole, let’s just boo Jeter. Although, Yankee hater that I am, I still don’t understand that.

Me calling your ideas retarded is hardly equal to you calling me “too stupid to argue with”.

I thought the cheerleader chick I posted earlier was Minka. Minka’s the blonde? Hunh…The brunette is hotter, jc25 — WAAAAY hotter.

Let’s ARGUE ABOUT THAT!!! ;-)

The Burnette is Minka

And she is most definitely not hotter than Adrianne Palicki

by BoddickerIsClutch on Oct 20, 2008 4:45 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

re

Minka Kelly = Lyla = brunette = cheerleader touched by God and Tim Riggins

Adrienne Palicki = Tyra = tall blonde = poor girl trying to make good on natural smarts yet somehow falls for ugly, pimpled, sort-of looking Matt Damon

Aimee Teegarden = Julie = small blonde = coach’s daughter who’s obviously very smart, and somehow turned good looking during season 2, in a kind of creepy Hayden Panettiere Remember the Titans to Heroes sort of way

And that’s not even covering Coach’s Wife, who would’ve been John Cho’s favorite.

Minka Kelly is most definitely touched by God.

Buckner and being wide open

Buckner was wide open because Chiles pump-faked and the CB bit. Thank God the CBbit because Chiles ended up throwing it off his back foot and underthrew the ball a tad.

the glass is always broken. It doesn’t matter what’s going on.

by HornPossessed on Oct 20, 2008 2:33 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

To give Chiles his credit

he took a hit to deliver that pass and stood in the pocket anyway.

by Wells on Oct 20, 2008 3:35 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

True...

However, I limited my post to the reason why Buckner was wide open, rather than why Chiles underthrew the ball. He was not open because Chiles decided to take a hit, but rather because he pumpfaked. I did not discredit Chiles in any way.

I recognize that he stood in the pocket and took a hit (he really showed some growth there), however, it was unrelated to my post.

didn’t Musberger called him ‘Quasby’ ?? Am still getting a giggle watching the newer pundits try to wrap themselves around CO’s name …

I almost added a Henry Shelton drop of emphasis.

But I guess Ill do it now.

It didnt seem like Shelton got as much playing time as he did in previous weeks either. Sergio was truly lining up at DE more than I recall him doing before.

On a night with so many positives all around

This was by far the best development, IMO. Out of curiosity, I looked up the box score. Shipley had 8, Quan 7, Collins and Ogbannaya 6 each. Of the four, Collins had the highest ypc, @ 12.7.

Collins, Williams and Buckner will need to become integral to the offense over the next few weeks as defenses gear up to stop Shipley and Cosby.

There had to have been a conscious effort to get the youngsters going. Gives the opposing D cause to pause.

Totally move Roy Miller to tight end, then.

Herbstreit during the boardcast said that the team gave Miller a bottle of “Elmer’s super glue”. Locker room hi-jinks = good times.
