Why Burnt Orange Nation is The Best.
I have searched high and low for a good place to share my thoughts and read other people's thoughts regarding Texas football and just the University of Texas in general... and BON is BY FAR the best place to do that.
You can come to this site and read comprehensive reports brought to us by PB. You can read great articles and great FACTS brought to us by 40AS, BillyZane, HornBrain, 54B and a list of other great people who do nothing but enrich the quality of this site.
On other sites, GROWN ASS MEN bitch and moan and cuss and degrade other LONGHORN FANS to the point of which I just can't take it anymore. I will no longer read other boards, sites, blogs, anything!!! This is it!
I want to thank everyone on that comes to this site and contributes friendly and insightful comments. I know that whenever I come to this board I will not leave it upset, I will leave it only wanting to come back and see what yall have to say about other things.
I am glad to be a BONer, and I only ask of one thing from PB....
Keep up the good work!
PS. Can you please tell me where I can get a BONer t-shirt so I can pimp it around EARTH?

Amen to that
When looking around for a blog, what I want is a give and take between the hosts and the readers. The hosts need to keep feeding us a steady flow of interesting material and here at BON we get news, stats, interviews, opinions, polls, clips, and humor. The volume is not so much as to overwhelming (like many political blogs) but there are always a couple of new topics. Our guys are plugged into the broader community of sports bloggers and they bring in the best of the rest. We tend to take it all for granted, but there’s an incredible amount of work needed to sustain that quality of content and the only way that could happen is as a labor of love.
The other side of the equation is the community that frequents the blog, and here again we have a truly exceptional bunch. We have wide differences in outlooks and opinions, but our discussions are marked by good humor and mutual respect. The comments sections are short enough that you can follow an entire discussion with out spending all day to read it and there are very few trivial, hostile, or irrelevant comments. This is incredibly rare in the blogosphere.
I’d like to think that being Longhorns has something to do with it. The school gives us a common bond and a sense of being on the same team. But it also creates a sense of community, which has its own norms and values that define its members and shapes the way they interact. I’m both proud and grateful to be part of this.

Agree completley!
One thing that is so great here is the ability to have a great discussion with reasoning behind it. I was on the ESPN message boards last night (Never go there) But people would randomly say Alabama is better then Texas, and thats fine but when you ask them why they have no answers. The ability to have an unbiased discussion about your favorite team is tough to do but here at BON they have found a way to do it.
Keep up the good work PB and co.

I think it's because ...
with the exception of the during-the-game threads (which are a RIPROARING fun time) most folks who post here are sober when they do so. unlike ESPN, where it seems to be nothing but drunk slobbery morons 24/7.

nothing explains Schlabach.

I saw Schlabach today
live on ESPN, and his picture is much more flattering than he is in real life.
If that guy covers the NC game for the SEC and we are there too… we HAVE to make some signs that call him out.

schlabach is the new merril hoge.
there is always a token Horns hater at ESPN. Gotta get used to it. Don’t even get me started on that blowhard Andre Ware.

I can't tell you how happy I was
to find this blog way back in 2005. I was a refugee from the wasteland that is the Statesman forum. I don’t even know if it still exists, but it was SO maddening to go there and try to rationally discuss the Horns and have to wade through umpteen flame wars between UT fans! This is my home and I never want to leave.

I'll agree
BON is the best source for all your Longhorns news, though I wish you guys covered recruiting a little more thoroughly.
With that being said, however, I think the quality of the site isn’t as good as it was a couple of years ago. Then PB had to go to South Bend, and I think law school has really influenced his writing too much. Couple that with the new layout and FanPosts/FanShots, and it’s gotten a bit confusing.
Also, there seems to be less consistency from author to author on this site now as compared to back then. I attribute that mostly to Peter not being able to devote the mass amount of time he worked on this site then, which is completely understandable.
Don’t get me wrong, I love the site still, but just wanted to add my constructive criticism. As with everything Texas, the expectations around here are extremely high. And with what I’ve seen from BON through the years has shown me that these guys are up to the challenge of meeting those expectations.
So keep up the good work BON!
