Around SBN: The End Of Sabanball: Details, Barbarians, And Precision

On when he felt he had a good chance of starting: Coming into the Arizona State bowl game last year, Coach Brown told us he was going to start over with the depth chart, so it’s a new chance. I took that to heart, worked hard, studied my playbook, watched film and all that. Then in the spring, Coach Muschamp became our new coach, so we got a new defensive playbook and nobody knew what was going on. Basically they said whoever catches on first is going to be the one that gets to play. I took that to heart, I studied my book every day, I stayed in the weight room during workouts every day and it paid off.

Brandon Collins

On describing the passes Colt McCoy throws: They are more accurate than anything I’ve ever had. You really don’t have to do anything but put your hands up, and it’s right there. It’s shocking sometimes. It’s not a hard ball and he throws it like how it’s supposed to be. It’s not too hard and it’s in the perfect place.

And that’s OUR quarterback! Awesomeeeeeeeee

More from Collins
On his long catch-and-run last week against Missouri: We had a play called and they blitzed. On that play, when the opponent blitzes, I’m supposed to run a slant. So, I just caught the ball in the middle of the field and ran for what I could. No audible was called, because on that play, I’m supposed to just switch routes when I recognize the blitz.

Surprising that the coaches put that decision making responsibility on a sophmore that really hasn’t played all that much. Pretty impressive.

In high school you’re taught to help out the QB in the case of a blitz. If there’s a blitz and you’re running a deep route you’re told to break off and come back. If the blitz is a corner blitz and its your CB that’s blitzing, sometimes they tell you to just stop and wait for the pass.

that's why Texas is #1

because they are a team in which all the receivers and the running back are reading the defense, and everyone is reading the same thing. This sort of thinking offense is what pro teams do and was re-emphasized by Major Applewhite back in the spring. The remarkable thing is that college players that have only played together for a few games can do this for 70 plays a game. It’s a mighty tribute to the coaching staff for implementing the necessary repetition and for recruiting intelligent players.
