UT(K) FOR UT(A)
Howdy Longhorns!
Let me start out with explaining the title. I'm a UT (Knoxville, Tn) fan cheering for UT (Austin,Tx). I was raised on something called Rocky Top but recently it's been all Rocky and no Top.
A good buddy of mine who I met in the Marines is from Austin, Tx and I've visited him in Austin on a few occasions. Most recently was this past weekend in which Texas opened a serious case of "whoop a$$" on Chase Daniels and the Missouri Tigers.
Prior to the game I was introduced to tail gating, Longhorn style. Mmmmm, Mmmmm!! I didn't get to eat any of the barbecue but damnation it smelled good! What I really loved was how everyone just set up camp as if they planned on living there for the next couple of years. Big screen t.v.'s, stereos, seats and virtual kitchens. Phenomenal! I wish I could remember where in the hell I was though. The funny thing about the location was that there was one blue and one pink port-o-potty. The lines got long quick. Some fans were drunk enough to take advantage of the nearby creek to relieve themselves. Needless to say, they weren't all male. :-)
Speaking of not being male, dear lord! Where do all of these women come from? I love the fashion statement they make w/the jean skirts and cowboy boots! Son! Also, Texans seem to be the friendliest lot in the country. My drunk a$$ was trying to open a beer bottle on a bridge rail, near aforementioned creek while tail gating and a fella came along and had a bottle opener. He didn't embarrass me. He just asked if I needed some help?
I've attended a few games and even worked for a season at Neyland stadium in Knoxville selling watered down cokes to the raucous fans. The 98,000+ fans in Darrell K Royal stadium certainly gave em a run for their money, especially last Saturday night. I was there sitting in section 5, row 60 with my buddy trying to do two things; Yell my brains out and trying not to drool as the gals walked by in their blue jean skirts and cowboy boots.
Major Applewhite said in the local Austin newspaper prior to the game that he wanted the fans to, I'm paraphrasing here; "Raise hell and make lots of noise". I hope myself and the rest of the fans didn't dissappoint. The defense played absolutely flawless 1st half defense and Colt and Co. looked like a well oiled machine. I think UT would even be more dangerous if they lined their tailback in the "I" formation more often.
Mack Brown has the gang's head on straight. That's a hell of a formidable schedule you guys have ahead of you, but I think ya'll are up to the task. Good luck! Hook 'em and KNOCK THE HELL OUT OF 'EM Horns! :-)

We were actually going to try their Pecan Pie...
…But we remembered we had chocolate cake and blue bell ice cream back at his place.
If it weren’t for me getting off my a$$ there and going for a jog every other day, I would have gained about 5 pounds. :-)

I told my buddy while I was in Texas...
…I wouldn’t mind meetin a girl who drove a pick-up, drank beer from the bottle, had all her teeth and studied philosophy…
…He said the teeth part might be a tall order. ;-)

Ya That BBQ
It’s unbelievible…I was there for UT vs Rice…it was nuts… See I live in Georgia…so I feel your pain…Too be perfectly honest…I’m so tired of the SEC…
Thanks for the props.
Y’all do it up well in Knoxvegas, too. I had the pleasure of being at the UT-LSU game two years ago (Russell’s last year at LSU) and was in Knoxville last year during the Georgia-UT game. Plenty of beautiful ladies there, incredibly nice folks willing to share food and booze, a beautiful campus, and a fun nightlife. Everytime I go, I get about 4 hours of sleep in a 60 hour period.
Good ol’ Rocky Top!
Ha!
I haven’t heard it referred to as KnoxVegas in a long, long time. The first time I had ever heard of that was by my sister eons ago.
Yeah, Cumberland Ave can be a good time after the game. Especially after a night game.
I see that you’re in D.C. I live across the river in Alexandria. Thanks for the reply!
