Chris Fowler on the Texas Crowd
Scroll down just a bit, unless you care about the Big Ten.
So I guess my expectations have just been skewed for this crowd by the Cotton Bowl, or perhaps my seats last year (South End Zone was crazy, ya'll!). I guess I'll sign on for now to the idea that I'm perceiving a lack of noise due to my location (The NEZ is more likely designed to direct noise onto the field, not into the student section). The truth is, though, my eyes didn't lie, and there was an obvious line of demarcation between the student section and the regular seating when it comes to standing, throwing up the 'Horns during Texas Fight, etc. If the current atmosphere is good by national standards, then it will always irk me that it isn't great when there are obvious gaps in the enthusiasm.

Missouri game was cleary different
I’ve been a pretty regular attendee of home games, OU games, and the occassional conference championship since ‘99 and to me the Missouri game was the best environment I’ve seen at home. Of course some fans in the alumni section don’t stand throughout the game, but I didn’t see a single person without their Horns up or not attempting to clap or cheer along. My issue with stadium noise though will never be with the alumni – their dues have long been paid and their checkbooks make a lot possible.
If i were nitpicky – the student sections near me have been surprisingly late in arriving to every game this year so far. Once they’re in, they’re loud and hell though.
I’ve said this before, but DKR’s acoustics don’t create the kind of revirbirations you get at other stadium because the upper deck does not hang over the lower deck. Nothing can be done about that, still the energy is getting better.

7pm kickoff
How much of the difference can be attributed to the 7pm kickoff and those 4-5 extra hours of “tailgating”?

Missouri
I was on the field for the Missouri game and it was extremely loud at all spots on the field for the whole game. I heard a newspaper reporter, who covers the Longhorns and is not a UT grad, comment at the end of the game on the loudness of the crowd. He said this was not your normal Texas crowd. I noticed how responsive the crowd was even at the Ark. game.
Keep it up!

Couldnt agree more with Mr. Fowler....
He’s right on and its a shame thats what our reputation is, but its getting better with articles like this. COME EARLY, BE LOUD, STAY LATE, WEAR ORANGE………

Second that here ..
Yeah, what Texas_Fight said. I was there – upper deck west, and it was better than any sporting event I’ve attended.
We’ve got plenty of encouragement to build on it, and I think this Saturday afternoon can be just as loud. We’ve got to be better than that Okie St seat-knocking (or whatever that annoying din they carry on in Stillwater is).

Crowd noise
My seats are in the NEZ and it sounded pretty loud, but in our area I think at least part of the silence was stunned astonishment at the excellence of Texas’ performance. It should be louder this week.
