Junior years "Colt vs Young"
When Texas wins the Big XII Championship and then goes on to win the National Championship down in Miami, do we say that Colt is better then Young? If you compare junior years, I would say you would have to lean Colt's way. Unlike Young, Colt is currently the front runner for the Heisman and has shown unbelievable composure during this stretch of Top 10 teams. If you compare the teams they have played during their junior season Colt has by far played a more difficult season. The 2005 Longhorns played Ohio State, Oklahoma, and Colorado as their only real competition before USC in the greatest College football game of all time. We all know the schedule this year that Colt McCoy and the Longhorns have had to face enroute to their National Championship run. Now you can't take away from what Young and the 2005 Championship team did, but you have to look at the stats and strength of schedule and see who the better Quarterback is. Then you go to next year if Colt has another season like this year and his freshmen year is he the greatest UT player of all time. We don't even need to use his stats to back him up, because they speak for themselves. Hard to compare though when such amazing talent has come out of the University of Texas. Just something I though of sitting here at work to see people's thoughts and to maybe help some people get over Hump Day!!! Hook'em Horns!!!
BTW, its 9:13 am EST and OU still and will forever SUCK!!!

No better or worse
Colt and Vince are two completely different players. They both can make you stand up and holler when they make a play, but with Vince, it was that he was a freakish athlete with an indomitable WILLand with Colt, it’s a freakish athlete with unbelievable SKILL.
Either one is brilliant and great but if you ask me who I want in the game with 1 minute to go down 7, I would choose Vince every time.

Colt has closed the gap but
He would have to finish this remarkable junior season and have an outstanding senior campaign before we can truly call him the best UT QB of all time. I think that Colt McCoy is a better “football passer” but when Vince Young lined up at QB, u will agree that every defense he faced, feared him even when he was an unpolished underclassman. And when the game was on the line, they feared him even more. I think what makes or breaks a great player is his or her big game performances and everytime i need to remind myself of who Vince Young really was for UT, i review the 2004 and 2005 Rose Bowls. Im estatic that McCoy is about to etch his name into the record books for the NCAA, but lets watch how our current fearless leader handles big time Bowl Games….and before you argue about last year’s bowl victory….our defense owned that game so Colt didnt really have to do too much of anything.

Do I really need to bust out Mr. Magnum, P.I. again?
Vince is untouchable. I’ll do another analogy. Comparing Vince to anyone, including Colt, is like comparing The Kurgan to any other character from Clancy Brown’s illustrious career.

Much love for Colt
But Colt vs Young is a silly argument.
If you have to win one college game, no one in their right mind doesn’t take Vince Young in a black box. And it doesn’t matter what Colt does the rest of this year, next year, in the pros, or posthumously in heaven. Vince is the single greatest gameday QB we are likely to ever see. If you think I am exaggerating, go rewatch the two Rose Bowls played in his stadium, because you have forgotten.

Not Forgotten
Very true that they are two totally different Quarterbacks. I am not saying Colt is better or Vince is better, just wanted to give people something to talk about today. I do however think that Colt leaves the defenses guessing a lot more then Vince did. Vince was a amazing Quarterback and athlete, but he ran the ball way better then he passes. Colt gives you amazing accuracy passing, and is a running threat. Me personally I think that Colt keeps a defense second guessing more then Vince. With Vince though, the defenses could know he was going to run and he would still find a way to bust past them for crazy yards.
What’s great is that UT fans can actually compare two amazing quarterbacks like this. It’s also amazing that UT was lucky enough to have such a great quarterback come in and take Vince’s place behind the center. I don’t think anyone could have done a better job filling Vince Young Shoes the way Colt McCoy has.
…BoddickerlsClutch, I have watched the two Rose Bowl games over and over many of times, because in my 28 years of existence they are the two greatest games of all time, HANDS DOWN!!!

Vince was a amazing Quarterback and athlete, but he ran the ball way better then he passes.
You do know that Vince was third in the nation in passing efficiency right? Ahead of Matt Leinart, Brady Quinn, Drew Stanton, John Beck, and 111 other QBs. And that he threw for more yards, and more touchdowns than the two QBs ahead of him in rating. And completed over 65% of his passes, all while also being the 54th rusher in the nation.

For what it's worth...
I watched a quick youtube someone posted on this site yesterday from that 2005 team, and it was amazing to see how much more talent surrounded VY than Colt has today.

Comparison
Vince Young stats: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/player/stats?playerId=135107
Colt McCoy stats: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/player/profile?playerId=175772
Yes, Vince Young as of today was a better Quarterback then Colt McCoy, but my original post wasn’t about Vince vs. Colt today, it was Vince vs. Colt entire Junior Season.
Colt currently is 5 TD’s away from Vince Young (Junior Season) passing and just 600+ yards passing, while still rushing for over 400 yards with 7 td’s. Colt’s completion percentage is beyond any ever in NCAA history and his passer rating is currently 186.46. These numbers blow Vince Young’s away. Colt McCoy currently has more passing yards, passing TD’s, completion percentage etc then Vince Young. For the rest of our lives, people will forever know Vince Young by two games, the Rose Bowls, yes they were two amazing games, but when you break down a great player you have to base it on more then just two breakout games. Vince Young, was by far the best player in the 2005 season, where as Colt McCoy is the best player in my opinion now and has been a great player for all 3 of his seasons he has played. We Texas fans can hope that just like Vince, Colt will have two BCS bowl games under his belt come Winter of 2010 where we can truly breakdown the comparison’s and see who truly is the best UT quarterback.
It’s all personal opinion, everyone can stack their opinions up against anyone and can break out stat after stat to show comparisons, but in the end all that matters is that Texas wins the 2008 National Championship and once again OU fans can shut up about their 7 National Championships!!!

Vince is Outside of Comparison
Colt has some excellent stats. He has, or will set, some game and a lot of career marks that possibly will never go down, ever.
However, Vince was an incomparable force on the college field, and on the team. Combined with other good players on the line and at skill positions, he made the offense unstoppable. His passing may not have been as absurdly accurate as Colt, but his amazing natural skill and command of the game make him all-time CFB MVP, in my book.

Agree completely.
I don’t want to jinx Colt. VY won a Big 12 Title and a National Championship. Let’s compare Colt and VY after the season.

Agree, As Well
I also think we should hold all comparisons until after the season. But, yeah, aren’t we lucky this is even up for discussion…
And as far as the Heisman goes…I still think Reggie Bush should have given his to VY immediately following the Rose Bowl Game, and if he had had any class at all he would have, but that team proved how classless they were after that game.

The announcers.....
at the Olympics kept pulling crap like this. “Is Phelps the BEST olympian ever?” and then they would try to find reasons why someone was better. He’s an American that did something completely, totally awesome! Celebrate him and his accomplishments.
Who the fuck cares? The argument is so totally subjective that it makes no sense.
We should celebrate the fact that in the last 4 years TEXAS has the best QB around and not try to figure out why one is better than the other.

celebrating...
isnt celebrating someones accomplishments part of comparing? Without comparison his 8 medal feet would mean nothing. What made his 8 medals so unique was the fact that he won the most ever, not the fact that he just won 8. Had someone won 9 he/she would be better then Phelps in everyones minds. All sports are about is comparing people and teams to eachother. Without it why watch sports.

Why don’t you wait until the end of season and come ask? You just don’t have the patience?

I'm from West Texas
So I’ve always been a huge Colt McCoy fan, and I vigorously defended him throughout his sophomore year as many idiots thought John Chiles should be starting. That being said, he’s simply not Vince. He will probably say so himself. VY was (is) an other-worldly athlete who can completely change a game by himself. If you were choosing teams to play a life-or-death game, nobody would choose Colt over Vince. Not even Colt.
Colt is great in his own way, but he has few things going for him over Vince. The only advantage that Colt has over Vince is that he’s a more accurate passer. Other than that, VY has the stronger arm, he’s bigger and stronger, he’s faster, he’s quicker, and he has more inspiring leadership. Colt McCoy simply cannot do what Vince did. It will be unfair to even expect that.
The fact that Colt is leading the Heisman list is irrelevant. The Heisman does not determine who’s even the best player of that year sometimes. VY should have won it, but he didn’t, but that doesn’t tarnish his greatness. Heck, Troy Smith won it and had virtually no competition after Adrian Peterson went down. If Colt wins the Heisman and we win the national title, Vince Young will still and always be the greatest Longhorn to have ever put on a uniform in college football.

First,
it’s unfair to compare one guy’s CAREER and the other at about the two-thirds mark. Second, by the arguments and polls on this site in recent days, VY had a lot better supporting cast (I don’t buy that one, but I’m in the minority). Third, one QB blazed the trail; the other is widening and smoothing the road. Fourth . . . not now.
Let’s revisit this one on Jan. 10, 2010.
