OU vs. A&M Rivalry

I'm trying to explain the difference between the two rivalries to a friend of mine and wondered ya'lls thoughts. I'm sure these will be all across the board, but how do you explain the differences in the rivalries between us and OU and us and A&M? I'd say we respectfully hate OU, but we just plain despise A&M. What'd ya'll think?

I don't know about others

But for me it’s the opposite. I’m as much fascinated by A&M as I am anything else. I don’t like them, but it’s far less passionate than my hatred for OU.

With Oklahoma, I hate the school, I hate the state, I hate the students, I hate the fans, I hate the players, I hate the coaches, I hate their songs (both the repetitive music and asinine lyrics), I hate their uniforms, I hater their cheers, I hate their names, I hate their ugly faces, I hate their colors, I hate that stupid wagon that they drive around and wear on their misshaped heads, I hate that it’s illegal to shoot them, I hate their near beer, I hate their disdain of personal hygeine, I hate that all meaning in their lives derives from a singular football game, I hate that dumb musical that I refuse to ever see for reasons other than it being a musical, I hate that they diluted the meaning of the word “sucks” because nothing in the universe really sucks that much in comparison to them, etc.

OU Sucks

OU gives us an opportunity to hate on a diverse array of punk ass marks, trick ass marks, punk bitches, skip skap skanks and skallywags, hoes, hefers, heehaws, and hoolyhoos.

What more can you say about OU that hasn’t already been said about Afghanistan. It looks bombed out and depleted.

I hate OU, I don’t even know OU, and I hate their guts. I hope all the bad things in life happen to OU, and nobody else but OU.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going home and put some water in OU’s Momma’s dish.

Hatred doesn't solve anything,

it just gives you a bad stomach. I think ALL rivalries (except maybe Army-Navy) are based mostly on the impact the game will have on your season.

In the 1960s, Darrell Royal’s teams dominated the OU of Wilkinson, Jones, Fairbanks, et al. THE GAME then was Arkansas. In the 1980s, OU generally got the best of Texas but that had less impact because there was no conference superiority on the line - that was what the Texas A&M offered.

I’d like to think we respect everybody, and that failures against OU (2000-04) and the Aggies (last two years) give us, and the players, and the coaches, and those doing the recruiting, an idea how to achieve future success.

Out of state v. in state

The nature of the OU rivalry changed a bit with the formation of the Big 12. Before, it was always much better to beat OU (well, because OU sucks and cheats and all that), but it was much, much worse to lose to Aggy. With Aggy, it was a conference game, so it counted more (and that’s where the Big 12 changed things), but also, if your family is like mine, you were eating Thanksgiving day dinner with a room full of Longhorns….and Aggies. I don’t know many families with split allegiances with the land thieves, but I know plenty who split in state. That’s my take on the matter.
