Rooting guide for Big 12 Championship game

This is for Texas to play in the Big 12 Championship.  There are lots of other teams to root against (mainly Alabama, Florida and USC) as far as NC game implications.

1.  Root against everyone outside of the Big 12 that OU and Tech have already beaten:

-Chattanooga

-Cincinnatti

-Washington

-TCU

-Eastern Washington

-Nevada

-SMU

-UMass

2.  Root for everyone outside of the Big 12 that we have played:

-FAU

-UTEP

-Rice

Arkansas

3.  Root against everyone in the Big 12 North that we did not play:

-Nebraska

-Kansas State

-Iowa State

4.  Root for everyone in the Big 12 North that we did or will play, unless they are playing Missouri:

-Missouri

-Kansas

-Colorado

5.  Root for Missouri

6.  Root for Baylor and OU against Tech

7.  Root for OU against OSU.

8.  Root for A&M to beat Baylor.  At this point we want to finish the season against an A&M with the best record possible.

9.  Root against OSU.  We want OU to finish the season against an OSU team with the worst record possible.

Shouldn't we root for OSU?

Ensuring that it will be impossible for OU to go into the Big12 Championship if they beat Tech.

nah, we want OU to win out :-(

Because we need them to give Tech a conference loss, but then we want them to stay in the one-loss three way tie because we have the heads up win over them- if OSU beats OU, then we lose the heads up with Tech.

Big 12 champ. winner gets to play in the MNC, also

Winning B12 is the easiest route- there are some more exotic possibilities at 11-1… If Florida takes a loss to SC or FSU but then beats Bama, we could float up to #2 and play a grudge match against Tech for the MNC.

Whoa...hang on there, spinach chin

(props to those who know THAT movie reference – other than the 3 Stooges movie)

It’s really come down to this:
Cheer for Arkansas, Oklahoma, and A&M.

I think I just felt my anus pucker-up.

Whoa, Mr. Pucker. Cheer for Akransas, Oklahoma and aTm? What a Monday load.

You can hurt something doing that and get the reddest hemorrhoids.

If it makes you feel better (semantics)

you can just root against the teams they are playing.

Not that this is what would happen BUT

Hindsight being 20/20, if it came down to either Tech or Oklahoma getting to play in the Big 12 Championship & the National Championship-

I’d rather give Tech a shot at the title. If Oklahoma beats Tech- there is good chance they would end the regular season with a higher BCS ranking than Texas. Correct?

"I asked Darrell Royal, the coach of the Texas Longhorns, why he didn’t recruit me and he said: "Well, Walt, we took a look at you and you weren’t any good.

If Florida beats Bama and Oklahoma beats Tech?

Does that mean they both will jump Texas to play for the National Championship?

This is the most likely scenario….in my opinion.

Show me Graham Harrell can win the big game ON THE ROAD in a hostile envirornment like Norman, OK and then AND ONLY THEN will I believe that Tech is worthy of a Title run.

A win is a win and a loss is a loss, but as badly as Texas played against Tech- ON THE ROAD- IN A HOSTILE ENVIRORMENT- BEFORE A PRIMETIME COLLEGE GAMEDAY CROWD- IN TEXAS TECH’S BIGGEST GAME IN SCHOOL HISTORY- we did lose to a last second touchdown.

I bet the Tech @ Oklahoma game will be another College Gameday feature and hopefully a night game.
Hey Tech- Beat Oklahoma- I dare you,

Not necessarily
If Florida beats Bama and Oklahoma beats Tech?

The way to look at it right now is, barring some fairly significant upset, the MNC game will be the SEC champion vs. the Big 12 champion.

If Texas and OU win out, and Tech only loses at OU, then there will be a 3-way tie to see who goes to the Big 12 Championship game, with the tie-breaker being the team with the highest BCS ranking. Tech would likely come out 3rd in that case because of their SOS. Right now we are ahead of OU in one of the 2 human polls and have a big lead in the computer polls. The lead with the computers will likely shrink with us playing Kansas and A&M, while OU plays Tech and OSU. The question then is, how will the human voters seed Texas and OU, and if they push OU up, will it be enough to overcome our margin with the computers.

If they look at both teams total resumes (including head-to-head), I think we come out ahead. If they lean more towards the team with the stronger finish then OU will be in front of us.
