Kansas game setting up like tech
Does anyone else seem to think that we are in for major upset this weekend? Everyone is talking about the BCS, but we have to get by the next 2 games - and ku on the road scares me to death.
Now we have no proven center and possibly some defensive guys still out, and add to that the weather conditions, and my firm belief we will crap on ourselves to start the game (like tech and utep) - why should we think we are set up for a visctory this weekend?? I mean please help me think why we have a chance here for success.

Because..
Texas has waaaaaaaaaaaay more talent, and is a better team. Texas also has more on the line, which actually hurt them the past two years.

hhmm...
First of all… College football is about as finnecky as paper in the wind. It’s proven that the team the plays the best that day, wins the football game… Example…App State vs Mich. Last year…Michigan was SUPPOSED to win that game but App state came to play…Now in saying all of this, Im quite confident in OUR horns.
Let’s start with offense. Colt is playing, in my opinion, better then anyone in the country. People keep talking about how he keeps showing glimpses of 2007, but i don’t think so. I think this year he is MUCH smarter… Of course he has one hell of a supporting cast. It goes without saying the Quan and Ship are without a doubt amazing. Then you have guys like Kirkendoll, and Williams who have completely stepped up and shown that they are deep threats along with the short stuff. Then you look at the run…It hasn’t been all that successful, but now with Fozzy healthy and actually playing…. We are starting to break for more yards, and its setting up McCoy and the passing game really well…Not to mention Vondrell Mcgee is starting to run well. The only real spotty part of our offense is our O-line. To me they have been inconsistent.
Now on to the Defense
Of course losing guys like Brian O-sackpo, and lamar houston can hurt BUT…let me reemphasize the BUT part…We are so deep on the D-line it’s not even funny… Sam Acho is playing like a beast, Aaron Lewis is playing well, Henrly Melton, Sergio…all those guys are still bad ass no matter how you look at it. as far as the Linebackers, they have played well in my opinion… missed tackles here and there but other then that Muck has been a tackling machine. Now onto our Young Secondary…This is where we get interesting. To be honest, I have been pretty happy with our secondary. They are really starting to come in there own. Williams had a couple of great plays on the ball with Baylor, and Gideon is hitting about as hard as anyone on that team.
Now to round it all up, WE ARE TEXAS… I gurantee you Mack will have those guys ready to play. I look forward to it. I don’t think it will be a blow out, but I do think Texas will have the game well in hand!
Hook em yall!!

Texas will not lose
We will not lose another game this season. Texas has always played well in the cold. Cold weather is the best weather for football players.
Yeah, the offensive line is beat-up. But, if I was Mangino, Sergio Kindle and Roy Miller would be giving me nightsweats.
Of course, if I was Coach Mangino I would then wake up and go into the kitchen for a little midnight snack.

Not concerned about winning but..........
Concerned about how we win. We really need a statement game against KU – spread is 13 points so a game like 48-24 would be great. We cannot have a 38-35 game.

Nonsense

I think that's untrue.
Plenty of room to improve in the human polls, especially relative to OU. If Texas blows out KU during OU’s bye week, I think Texas gains more points on OU in the human polls than if Texas squeaks by KU.

this game is starting to make me think of
nebraska in ‘06. the weather was bad that day and we were supposed to show up and beat the crap out of the huskers. well we almost pissed that game away and had to be saved by the thorpe award winner by a forced fumble and a game winning field goal. this is not the biggest game in Kansas’ history ala tech 2 weeks ago. however, all this BCS talk is starting to worry me a bit. we have never been a good team with something on the line. we are at our best when we have something to prove. we should take the attitude of we are supposed to be here in the BCS hunt rather than oh man it is kinda high way up here at the #3 spot.

Where is the bad weather?
Sure it’ll be cold but the weather seems fair (partly cloudy) that day. Not a single snow flake or anything like that.

No snow, that's for sure...
But the wind rightly whips across the plains up there. Right now it’s gusting up to 17-20mph, and gusts aren’t a huge help to footballs in the air. Let’s hope it’s a calm day on Saturday.

Have you ever been to memorial stadium in Lawrence?
I grew up sledding on the hills surrounding it and watching football games from Campenile Hill. It’s practically in a bowl. Not that it can’t get windy, but it won’t be whipping across rolling plains.

Too much talk renders everything mundane.
We’ve chewed the meat off the bones, have gnawed off the collagen in the joints and are now splintering them to get to the marrow. Obviously this BCS crap has been run into the ground. The longer this goes on, the more it skews our expectations. Suddenly we’re so bad in the first half against Tech that stray dogs are peeing on our leg, when, in fact, a good part of that was great preparation and anticipation by Tech (just like against OSU) which put us in a pressurized situation. No, the Horns didn’t respond well the first half but they overcame that in the second on both sides of the ball. Yes the Horns became complacent the second half against Mizzou; easy to do with a 35-3 lead and near perfect execution. Teams have their ups and downs; we here may hinge the world on those, but basically this team has been stable and directed overall. {Rant over…maybe..uh oh, more coming…}
Either Texas shows up as a team and plays well or they don’t. Either they have the capacity to pull it out the second half if they’ve snoozed the first or they don’t. Kansas’ wins have been keyed to their running and if they can’t run, they’re in trouble. I expect them to get in trouble and stay there. TOs are more of a concern to me than the ability to take the Jayhawks.
It’s time to forget the frickin’ BCS and get on with the game. It’s about the game, not the sweet little lipstick honey after it’s over. Jeez, at times I feel like we’ve been overrun with TV trolls whose real concern is for publicity. We’re in the midst of one of the greatest offensive outbursts in football history and we’re worried about fuckin’ defensive ranking? Gimme a break. Lay off the damn pintos…

I can sleep well tonight
Bruce Feldman thinks we will win.
Texas 52, Kansas 24: Todd Reesing has been shaky over the past month, throwing seven picks against just eight TDs. Worse still, KU’s pass protection isn’t good (79th in the country in sacks allowed at 2.2 per game), and UT has a host of outstanding pass rushers. Don’t be surprised if the Horns hit a few big kick returns. They’re very dangerous, and KU has been horrible covering kicks this season.
I predict 5 sacks and 2 returns over 30 yards.

Besides...
… last year’s the Kansas “over-achievers” only had to play OSU, aTM and Baylor last year. Add that to the traditionally weak North Division teams they played, and you have a good explanation for the unexpected success in 2007. This year the Big XII South teams are Texas, Tech and OU – and KU is 0-2 so far. Neither game was close.
Tim Griffin’s got all the stats.

Kansas was good...
….last season.
Kansas won at Colorado……….OU couldn’t
Kansas won at A&M……………….Texas couldn’t
Kansas defeated KState………..Texas couldn’t
Kansas put 76 on Nebraska…..Texas scored 28
Kansas stomped the MAC Champion 52-7
Mangino made a BCS Bowl in 6 seasons…….It took Mack Brown 7 seasons
Kansas won a BCS Bowl 24-21
You don’t have to tear down a Kansas program on the rise to make yourself feel better about K.State and Aggie.
--- All roads to the Big-XII Championship lead through OU/RRS. It's not just another game! We're all about championships here. ---

that list doesnt mean they were good...
though they were a “good” team.
PHF only said they were “over-achievers”, which they were. I’m sorry, but they were.
He also explained how they lucked out and didn’t play any of the real Big Xii south teams last year. Not playing OU or Texas, or Tech. Thats huge.

Doesn't consistently over achieving kinda indicate you're good?
Clemson’s not good in spite of underachieving. Neither was ND last year. How are you judging teams if not on performance?
I think that if KU had played the other half of the South they would have, probably, beaten Tech, lost to OU and played a toss up against Texas (if this hypothetical game were in Lawrence, I think they win it).

this year
i absolutely agree, kansas was very good LAST YEAR. they lost most of their impact
players except Reesling.
look for several long returns for us on punts, kick-offs.
we DO PLAY WELL in the cold. go figure.
Mangino needs to mix in a salad now and then. at least he’s not in austin eating
barbq!
texas gets style points will ou watches.
52-10 (sound familiar) (also, the stadium will be half empty at the end like our
Michigan scouts pointed out about the Baylor game.

Just about every sign for an upset is there this week.
1. Injuries – Hall is out, Orakpo and Ch. Brown are probably out. Alot of other guys including Colt are banged up. We’ll be starting a true freshman at Center with no real backup.
2. Weather – may not be miserable but this team has had moments in the past where it didn’t look like they wanted to get off of the bus in cold weather. Add that to a number of players saying this week they hate cold weather.
3. BCS stuff – team has eaten the cheese before.
4. Coaching rumors regarding Muschamp.
5. Road game.
6. Revenge factor for both Mangino and Reesing.
7. Another good passing team.

One more factor
8. 11am start. Road teams always suffer from early start times.

Listed as out with some type of illness. We could be relying on a walkon, Ford, to fill a 2 deep at CB.
