Around SBN: Steve McNair Found Shot to Death

Texas vs Stetson Review

I attended tonights game against Stetson.  Here are some key points to be noted

-Starters: James, Abrams, Atchley, Mason, and Chapman. Thats right, Clint Chapman made his first career start?  Dgous still serving his suspension

-Varez Ward missed all 6 of his FTA.  First game jitters??  Not bad though, hes got potential

-Atchley 3/3 3 pointers.  3 blocked shots

-Abrams fills DJs void with 21 points.

-FTs in general were horrible.  Rick Barnes cant be pleased.

-Pittman is the real deal.  He can actually run to the other end of the court.

-Im not worried about UCLA, as much as I am about North Carolina/Notre Dame

-Key players: James, Abrams, Atchley must be healthy

-15 TOs. Unacceptable

Thanks for the review

Any energy in the crowd? I know it’s Stetson (where the hell is that? Is that a team Rick created for the first game? I mean, do you really graduate with a degree from Stetson and tell the person interviewing you that you graduated from Stetson??) but I’m hoping the drum had at least some energy for the opening game.

Fastest post game react

Ever!

I’ll add this as we wait for Twist’s write-up:

We seemed to take most of the first half to realize that we’re bigger than Stetson by a full head at every position except AJ… which is a position.

No one stepped up as the guy tonight. Everyone seemed a little off pace. Closest was probably Damion James, freak-meister.

Gary Johnson played very well, from what I gathered, and Varez Ward played a ton of minutes. I think he definitely got a little shaken up when he missed those free throws, but he has time to adjust before the important stuff comes around. Most of the crowd was supportive of him, with a few very douchebag exceptions (Yes, you, dude in the North O-Zone with the Saw ‘em off Aggie-dog shirt. I don’t understand why you think it’s cool or helpful to belittle a player on your own team for missing a few nothing free throws, but it obviously has something to do with the fact that you’re a complete jackass. Try making a freaking peep on defense and then work your way up to commenting on the game.).

Dexter SMASCH! That is all.

Wiggo's got the review...

…but I have a lot of comments over the game.

To touch on the non-game stuff from above…

1) Crowd was better than most season openers, especially in the student section, but the announced crowd of 11,000+ is dubious. It was a non-factor, even though they let people come down from upstairs.

2) They fixed the floor to the proper color of orange. This really bothered me last year, and I’m glad they fixed it.

3) The heckling was in mid-season form tonight. After the band played “Living on a Prayer”, I yelled to the Stetson bench to be thankful that we had played their theme song for the season. “2008-9 Stetson Basketball: Living on a Prayer”

4) Hook ‘Em was still rocking the Craig Winder #30 jersey in the first half. I’m not sure why they can’t get him a uniform that matches the team’s uniforms.

5) Speaking of uniforms, the cheerleaders also have new uniforms this season. I’m not going to comment on them, but they are very Oregon’esque…

thanks man

yeah, the first shot was just a distance measurement, lol

I’m so glad I made it, cause I told my friends and everyone sitting round us that if I got to shoot it from the free throw line then I would make it.

I thought I was gonna have to shoot it from the three point line, but I guess not. It was sweet.
