Texas 35 Kansas 7 Postgame Celebration Thread
Analysis later... This is your postgame celebration thread.
Human voters, we kindly note This. And... Um, This.
Thanks. Hook 'em.
One more thing, BONizens: Nothing against Blake Gideon, but I saw enough from Christian Scott in one half to wonder whether Thomas/Scott isn't the winning safety combo. Your thoughts?

Running up the score
Don’t forget that Leach admitted after that game that he ran up the score. Something that Mack very easily could have done today, but he has more class.
I'd say two
One on Colt’s last drive, one on the drive Chiles was in for. But point taken. Our offense wasn’t clicking on all cylinders yesterday. That being said, we still demolished a team that was able to score at will against OU in the first half. We would have had a shutout if not for the amazing circus catch that’s going to end up on ESPN’s Top 10 plays today. Given the slate of early games (PSU and OSU both rolling early in their games) let’s hope lots of voters switched over to the Texas game in time to see that last goal-line stand.

Yes I'm celebrating...
… but I’m also worried.
Worried about Blake Gideon.
Worried about Brian Orakpo.
Worried about Malcolm Williams disappearing after his one big catch.
Worried about the running game.
Worried that Mack won’t let us put up 65 on the Aggies.
But most of all…. I’m THANKFUL.
Let’s all enjoy our Turkey folks. This is truly a special season.
Travel safely.

I feel ya, PHF
But of all those, I’m only worried about the running game. Orakpo was ready to go, but wasn’t needed. Gideon just got his bell rung; there was no need for him to go back out there. And Scott filled in nicely anyway. We have 12 days to rest (finally!!) before our next game. Should be near full strength then.
The bye week can't come sooner
Goodness, we’re banged up. That’s what makes this performance all the more impressive. We clearly show the toll that our schedule has brought and we still came out and whipped Kansas silly. The voters should take into account.
Gideon looks like he’ll be fine with a week off. It was scary but very encouraging to see him walking. I think Orakpo and Williams will be fine.
As far as our running game, it has shown flashes of good stuff. I think Davis is being way too impatient with it. He runs a few times, and if it doesn’t pick up good yardage, he goes away from it for a while.
But Mcgee is looking better, Chris O. is still there, and Whittaker is still warming up. I’d prefer that Colt not have so many carries, but I’m optimistic about the run game.

Scott was awesome. I loved how he challenged the KU runningback the very next play after Gideon was knocked out. I love that kind of toughness. Knocked the big guy backwards to send a message that he shouldn’t be too proud of himself.

Tebow
I think Tebow could end up winning the Heismann pretty easily. He is going to be #2 or #3 on almost every ballot. Meanwhile, the big 12 players could each be ranked anywhere from #1 to #5. If the variance is great enough, Tebow could slip in.

Gideon
Muschamp just said in the postgame: “Gideon’s going to fly back with us, he’ll be fine”
haha. gigem314 thinks aggy is more talented than Baylor
This year, I’d argue Baylor wins that argument.
aside from being aggy, idk why. johnson is 5-6. no matter the yds on that, its impressive that aggy has been able to complete that percentage.

All hail Dr. Saturday
Just saw his prediction for our game today:
Kansas guns with Texas for most of the first half, but loses serve with a turnover just before the half that allows the Longhorns to go up two scores at the break and open the floodgates in the second half. Colt McCoy throws three touchdown passes and Todd Reesing is caught by cameras limping off the field at least once.

I know we need computer help in the BCS, but has anyone begun to think about how the whole country will be watching on T-giving and yes, I know we’re playing lowly Aggie – but a good 42-3 dominant shitkicking with all watching might be all we need to be the winner of the the 3 team tie scenario. Let’s hope OU wins out but barely over Pokes.

On Gideon
PB – I didn’t read any of the comments yet so I don’t know if anyone took you up on Scott/Gideon…. But I thought Gideon was playing his best game of the season before the bell ringin. He forced the fumble in the first half that lead to our second score and I thought was all over the field. The commentators mentioned how the team considers him a calming presence on D (my read into that is leading by example type play). nothing against Scott who brought the wood on the KU RB the first plpay after Blake left (and dropped a gimme INT). I think the reality is Blake made a major physical error by the drop in the TT game, and that one play poisoned what was an impressive true freshman campaign to that point. He was Mack’s surprise of the season leading into the OSU game. We need Blake back and by the time he is done he’s going to be a special one. Just my 2 cents
I thought Gideon was having his best game of the year too
On the whole, though, he’s struggled to be a “playmaker.”
I say this cautiously, because without him, who knows where we’d be. At the same time, his speed is only so-so and he hasn’t been much of a playmaker.
Interesting question, and not a bad “problem” to have to work through. Either Gideon or Scott can play in the dime package—whomever is starting otherwise.
--PB--
what does a playmaker at safety look like?
i think i disagree with you. gideon has been all over the field, seldom misses tackles, has great body control, doesn’t over-pursue (think the 4th down safety blitz today) and hits hard. he’s definitely a standout in the secondary.
do you think scott has better potential for turnovers?
i’m just awfully impressed with gideon’s field awareness and lack of mistakes…he is, after all 18 years old.
I've been impressed with Gideon, too
But I do think his “upside” as a playmaker is limited. He’s a step slow—which he makes up for by being smart—and Texas would be better served with someone who can fly AND make plays.
I don’t know that it’s something that needs to happen, but Scott showed in one half why someone like that can be a difference-maker for us.
Again, though: You’re right on Gideon, insofar as he’s been a rock for us. At 18 years old. Great, smart, solid player. We’ve been lucky to have him thiis year.
--PB--
Calm down, ladies...
You’re both accurate. Had Gideon made the pick against Tech, he would (undoubtedly) be a playmaker. Today, the blitz on 4th was crucial, and also led to a turnover (albeit, on downs). The kid is 11 games into his true freshman season. I’ll take his peformance thus far—without question.
The larger question, to me anyways, is whether we can get them both on the field. Can Scott play corner? Can Gideon? (probably not, as PB points out is speed is suspect). Beasley’s performance today (all season?) has been abysmal. Would be nice if either Scott or Gideon could put Beasley on the bench.
"There are three kinds of people in this world: those who are good at math, and those who aren't..."
--GA Horn--
the good news is scott doesn't need to play corner
chykie and aaron williams obviously have incredible ability and upside. if scott were to beat out gideon then our secondary would have incredible depth and maturity next year. if gideon were to beat out scott, we would pretty much be the same situation.
Good point...
Also, pretty damn impressive that our secondary held their offense to 7 points today with back up corners, and freshmen safeties
"There are three kinds of people in this world: those who are good at math, and those who aren't..."
--GA Horn--
Scott is FAST
Yes he could play corner. Given we’ll be replacing Palmer – and Beasley needs to be replaced permanently – we will be relying on Chykie, Aaron AND Christian next year. Won’t really matter who starts, all three will get loads of playing time. I was just advocating sitting Beasley NOW and getting Scott on the field for the last two (or three) games of the season to get him some more playing time to prep for 2009.

I think we’ve dropped at least 10 INTs this year. Could it have something to do with the fact that the ball rarely touches the ground in practice with Colt?

O Line
Toughest thing about watching the ‘Horns today was the sporadic nature of the running game. Seemed like to me that when the O line was on — as with McGee’s TD — the running game followed suit. There were a number of plays in which Kansas’ front seemed to penetrate to the backfield before the RB could get started.
Am I wrong in thinking that the O line is the most inconsistent, and therefore weakest, part of our team right now?
Remember the "QB" of the O-Line didn't play today

Tipping back
a cold Shiner in honor of the Baylor beatdown of the ineptitude that is Aggie football.
Hey, Tech 92 -
Were you there at Jones stadium when the goalposts got rammed towards Gov Perry’s Aggie section? Any recollections, clarifications?
Yeah, I was there
I wasn’t a student, graduated by then. My main recollection is I couldn’t figure out why they tore then down to begin with. We were favored in the game, so it wasn’t an upset. Then I couldn’t for the life of me figure out where they were taking them. I was a little shocked that they tried to push them up into the stands. The fighting wasn’t nearly as big a brawl as people would lead you to believe. Honestly, I was pretty disappointed and not at all surprised when the papers led with that the next day. It is not a great moment in post-game celebrations. But it happened and we can’t really hide from it…
Posts
Does it strike anyone else that this business with the goalposts might lead to tragedy somewhere down the line. Like maybe bonfires?
