Vince?

Has anyone seen Vince Young on the sidelines lately? Is he still on the Titan's? Is he a future receiver?  The dude must be going crazy not playing at all right now. I haven't heard a word about his knee or the mystery depression. Hopefully he can pull through this spell and get it going next season or if Kerry Collins loses it.  Anyway, just looking for an update on his status if anyone has news.

Still with the Titans

VY is still on the Titans. After he was hurt, Collins started getting hot. Jeff Fisher came out and said he was going to stay with Collins unless something unforeseen happens. I personally like this, Vince wasn’t quite ready for Sunday ball. I think getting a chance to sit behind and learn it all will really help him once he gets the starting job back

saw him doing the shoulder bump

celebration with kerry after the 4th quarter TDs. was pleased to see him still ‘in the moment’ and part of the team. Collins is still an old (recovering drunk) dude. VY could be in there any week.

of course - old dude Kerry

if you saw it…he couldn’t quite get the turn around jump bump done correctly :-)

position

He is right behind Kerry Collins and right in front of Chris Simms, yes, that Chris Simms.

Vince Young is a bust.

He was a great college player, probably the best ever, but he looks like a bust. The guy can’t throw the ball and even in college he really couldn’t read defenses and make NFL type throws and reads. I know you guys don’t want to hear that, but its the truth. He is a phenomenal athlete but just doesn’t have the tools to be a pro-qb.

by PrimeTime2012 on Nov 17, 2008 9:11 PM CST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Definitely true

Totally agree man, if Jeff Fisher could do it all over again he would have drafted Reggie McNeal. Or waited two years to draft Stephen McGee.

TAMU has such a long line of succesful QBs too: Dustin Long, Corey Pulig, Kevin Murray. Please tell me which of tamu’s qb’s beat two Heisman winners in one game and then went on to win the NFL’s Rookie of the Year, as a quarterback no less, the following season???

by Baconnachos on Nov 18, 2008 10:43 AM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

If that were true

Then he would have been bad from the start in the pros. Offensive rookie of the year and a pro bowl under his belt say that he has the talent to play in the NFL. He certainly needs to be a bit more refined before he really can shine but far from a bust right now.

by seth78 on Nov 18, 2008 1:45 AM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

are things so bad over at TexAgs you gotta come over here for that?

C’mon Army, you got much better material than that having won the last two years against all odds. Taking cheap shots at a QB who won a National Championship but is taking time to adjust to the NFL is just poor. I’d much rather here the great Ag conspiracy theory about how UT watered down the field for the game Ricky broke the rushing record, than this, at least that’s entertaining. Or maybe how the media gives us so much undeserved love in the press?!?!?!

Yall must be running out of other schools sites to terrorize given that everone, including Baylor has slapped you around right about now. I guess their’s always Iowa St., go come up with some cute, politically incorrect names for them and give them the business for awhile.

by longhornJ on Nov 18, 2008 10:51 AM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I'm not taking a cheapshot at him.

I never dissed VY as a COLLEGE quarterback. I said that he probably is the greatest quarterback/player that the college game has ever seen. Its not a cheap shot at all. I’m going by what I and everybody has seen of VY in the pro game. You are probably the same guy that has no problem calling Matt Leinart a bust in the NFL and calling him a party boy because he was just frustrated after a gut wrenching defeat during his last game as a college player.

If you don’t want to believe that Vince Young is not a disappointment so far in his career in the NFL than you are just in denial. You probably think that Michael Huff should be a pro-bowl player because he plays for the Raiders even though he got replaced a by a street free agent. You probably think that Mike Williams never got a fair shot in Buffalo because the weather was too cold. You call us delusional and in denial yet you won’t look at the facts from a neutral perspective and see what VY is as a pro-qb.

Oh about TexasAgs no sane person should ever go on that debacle of a site. Smart people don’t go on TexasAgs.

the thread was about how VY is doing

everyone knows he’s not living up to the hype right now, but the point was well taken that he showed as a rookie he could get it done quite well…the intent of this thread was for those with concern about someone from our school hoping he will get past it and do better, and you came barrelling in with your ‘VY is a Bust’ comment. Noone really cares what an Aggie thinks about VY’s to-date progress is so why even post on this site? As I said if you just want to be an ass then, go lookup Iowa State’s site or someone like that so you can feel superior and let those of us who have dozens of alum drafted in the 1st round of the draft voice our concerns.

and while we’re at it, if you guys want to really try and join the 21st Century and show that you really have a desire to be a 1st class program, try finding a school song that doesn’t show reveal your single minded obsession with UT so blatantly and give that a shot. when everything is all about “beat the hell outta t.u.” and your fight song is “saw Varsity’s horns off” but you are “humping it” while you play Baylor, OU and others, its just sad…

Until

Tennessee starts losing he won’t sniff the field. And why should he? They are undefeated with that old recovering drunk dude with an emotionally immature and erratic backup who I very seriously doubt his teammates truly trust to handle the pressure. Not a slam on the kid, it’s just the position he’s put himself in.

by Tech92 on Nov 17, 2008 9:39 PM CST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Hindsight is 20/20

As mentioned above, perhaps Jeff Fisher could go back and draft other quarterbacks. Maybe Kliff Kingsbury, BJ Symons, Sonny Cumbie or Cody Hodges. Those guys are all superstars.

Not

Saying that was the idea I was driving at, and his problems have thismuch to do with where Vince went to college. It’s the person of Vince Young that is the issue with the Titans, not his ability or college affiliation. But thanks for that well thought out and cogent argument.

by Tech92 on Nov 18, 2008 12:24 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Sigh

Relax, spazz. Just because Vince was upset after he tore his MCL and left his home without his cell phone (God forbid!) does not mean he is emotionally immature. Admittedly, he has not played that well in the NFL, but we have only seen a small sample. How do you know his teammates don’t trust him? Do you have a unique insight into the dynamics of the Titan locker room? Doubtful. They are sticking with Collins because they are winning. Young is still developing into an NFL quarterback. It’s that simple. I hope that this concludes this discussion.

Yeah he is.

Vince is emotionally immature. Did you hear about him not wanting to get back into the game because he was hurt? What is that huh? Remember when his mom told everybody to give Vince some space? He obviously must have cried to his mama as to why people were booing him. Did you remember how ungracious he was when he lost the Heisman trophy to Reggie Bush? Sure he may have been upset and had a good reason to, but you basically don’t go on national TV and bitch about why you are disappointed that you lost the Heisman. I still remember when you guys were playing against us and seeing Vince Young on the bench pouting because he had a bad game even though his team won the game. They are sticking with Collins because Collins is the better quarterback right now, not because they are winning.

Don’t live in denial Longhorns fans, Vince was a great college player and is turning out to be a an athletic quarterback who can’t throw. Thats what he was in college and thats what he is now but he can’t get away with it. Also, go ahead and post some stats of VY during his final year in Austin to “prove” to me that he could throw. He never had to make NFL type of throws or actually read coverages. It was either an ugly deep ball to Limas Sweed or a little dump off to your tight end of the play action zone read or tell Vince to scramble around on 3rd and 30 and that was the Texas passing game. In the NFL you can’t convert 4th and 18 and 3rd 30 by scrambling. He never actually had to make intermediate throws or go from under center or make any “NFL throws.”

Obviously, you're unaware of proper ettiquite

Aggies wishing to debate whether Vince Young is a bust have to wait until the end of football season. That means after the bowl games.

Also, do us a favor and learn a few things about the Texas offense, otherwise it won’t even be a distraction.

Wow

He must have ran to his mama! Of course! That all sounds like conjecture and opinion. Again, I admit he has not played well, but it is conceivable that a player somehow, someway (I’m really going out on a limb here) develops their ability beyond that which has been demonstrated in their first two years in the NFL. Call me crazy, but I think it has been done.

You can’t, and won’t, win this one. Don’t take your frustration with your own program out on our blog. Again, I hope that this concludes this discussion. (Read: go away)

re:

Yes, I remember that…oh wait, you’re full of crap. I recall that he went on to the Jay Leno Show, and Leno asked him if VY thought he should get the Heisman after the game he had against USC; Vince responded that he didn’t think it mattered b/c he got what he really wanted..a NC. So ungracious…

Get over yourself

This is a Texas Longhorns website; do you honestly think that you are going to find one Texas fan who remotely agrees with this garbage? You are trying to talk to a group of Texas fans about their national championship winning quarterback like we don’t know anything about him. Maybe you’re pissed because even in his bad games he still tooled A&M? Wait until an athlete of Vince’s caliber attends A&M, which will in all likelihood be never, and see if you can talk poorly about him if he becomes a slow starter in the pros like Vince.

Rabblerousing like this is reserved primarily for texags, not here boss.

What about Zebbie Lethridge?

He was pretty good…..at stealing from Dillard’s from Lubbock…

V Y

Yeah, kick him while he’s down assholes. I hope you enjoy your limelight, until florida beats that ass. At least UT’s young defense would give them a game. I’ll be laughing my ass off when Leach bolts for a real school (The Vols?) and leaves that shithole. As I was told by Bob Knight’s lead recruiter during the Vols search for a BBall coach (eventually Bruce Pearl)at the Radisson in Lexington KY “Bobby would leave Lubbock in a heartbeat, because there ain’t shit in Lubbock.” “But, he fuckin’ can’t stand Pat Summit!”

Primetime and Tech92 should know better than to come in here and diss VY. That’s just asking for it…

by LadyLonghorn on Nov 18, 2008 8:06 AM CST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Well, that’s true. I wasn’t trying to diss him, just state kind of the obvious pink elephant in the room. Can he turn it around? Absolutely, it’s not like he’s a lost cause. He’s got all the ability he needs to be good in the NFL. In baseball we have a saying that it’s not the 400’ fences that cause hitters trouble, it’s the nine-inch fences, i.e. what goes on between the ears.

by Tech92 on Nov 18, 2008 12:26 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Only time will tell if he's successful in the NFL.

He’s been 50/50 so far in the pros, but I agree with others that he was thrown into the mix way too quickly.

Speaking of rookie QBs, I was putting myself in the shoes of Joe Flacco this past Sunday against the Giants. You’re a mostly no-name QB from a FCS team (albeit a good one), who got drafted relatively high; you’re about six months out of college; you’re really only the back-up to who was supposed to be the franchise QB; and in your 7th game of the year you’re playing the previous Super Bowl champs. Jesus, that is pressure I wouldn’t have to deal with. The guy is only 6 months older than me; I would be a pants pisser in his position.
