Tech. OU. Someone Has To Win Open Thread
I'm torn on this one, honestly. I'm not one of those who thinks Texas can't win the three-way tiebreak, but I'm a glass half-full kinda guy. Whatever happens tonight, we'll need more help still. Root for an ugly, turnover-filled slopfest? And maybe a halftime interview with Mack Brown? Or Will Muschamp?
Life is good, regardless of tonight's outcome.

Root for it to be ugly
As someone said on Barking Carnival, its a no win/no lose situation for us.
Let them kill each other such that each loses their next game imo.

Amen brother...
life is GREAT! So much to be thankful for. And thank you for keeping us going!
BOOMER SOONER (yuk)!
I'm with you PB
I honestly don’t know who I want to win. I hate OU, so rooting for them is hard, and Tech beat us on the last play of the game, so I hate them too. I’m just gonna go with BIC, root for an ugly game.
He left out
Then root for Missouri.
by BoddickerIsClutch on Nov 22, 2008 6:16 PM CST up reply actions
I agree
but, I’d rather root for OU than Tech since Tech has Baylor next and OU has Okie State.
i say root for an incredibly high scoring, no-defense kind of game that OU wins barely.
let the “Big 12 plays no defense” narrative work against OU.
ND loses!
A Texas win on Thursday and we move to 2nd all time wins!
Notre Dame
definitely loses to USC and then probably loses their bowl game. If we win our bowl game we’ll open up a two win cushion. We may be passing them for good on Thanksgiving.

When important decisions arise
I like to ask myself what some of the great football minds would do. For instance, in this case, how would legendary head coach and motivational speaker Dan Hawkins answer the question of who Texas fans should root for? It’d probably go a little something like this:
Some fans might decide it’s not a big deal, or that the ends justify the means, or that they don’t like Texas Tech anyway. I’ll give you an example. Say there’s a fan and they’re a little bummed out this year that they have to root for OU in a football game when normally Tech isn’t even in the picture, you know? Well yeah, that’s a shame, but here’s my point.
IT’S OKLAHOMA SOONER FOOTBALL!!!! IT’S THE LAND THIEVES!!! IT AIN’T OKIE STATE! You got OU, you got Texas A&M, and you got Kansas during hoops season. That’s three rivals! That’s more than most schools get! And we’re a little bummed that we’re rooting for OU? Go follow Rice football, brother. Go follow Rice football.
In summary, there’s no chance in hell I’m ever rooting for freaking OU. Wreck ’Em Tech!

hate to say it...
but i’m hoping that OU wins a close/sloppy one. Seeing OU in the national title game would really piss me off, but I think that it’s more likely that OU loses @ OSU rather than Tech losing versus Mizzou.
I also think that we have a decent shot at the tiebreaker (due to the computers and the head-to-head win in Dallas) and think that it is a better scenario for Texas than just hoping that Tech loses to Mizzou at Arrowhead.
I continue to turn the following scenario over in my head: OU wins, then loses to OSU next week. Tech would still go to the title game, but would a win over Mizzou be enough to vault them back into the #2 slot in the BCS rankings? I’m thinking not.
this is a very interesting scenario
hadn’t thought much about that happening but it’s one of the more probable Texas- beneficial scenarios on the table at this point.
we would almost certainly go to the national championship game in this case.
I hate even having to play out possibilities
I am still replaying those last 2 minutes from lubbock over and over in my head…
OU 35, Tech 31
but hoping for 6-3 OU with Harrell and Bradford throwing five picks each.
10 Picks. Historic. Hysterical, to.
Although seems like there was a QB for Texas A&I who threw 9 INTs in their title game, which they barely lost.

Nice to see Greg Robinson score a win at Notre Dame after getting the boot earlier in the week.
Let’s see who get’s the most offensive holding calls, IF ANY. Hell that could be a major factor. We know about that.
Damn... I'm sicked
that we have to watch this football game tonight. Even makes me more disgusted is we have to root for OU tonite if we want to play at Florida on Jan. If Tech wins tonight, I’m not expect Mizzou can beat Tech even they have home court advantage on the Big 12 Title game. I recall the Cowboys has beat Mizzou on their home turf ..
Anyway, whether OU will win in tight margin or lopsided tonight, OU STILL SUCKS!
But tonite, I am more concern our freshman…I hope Gideon will get surround by Roy Miller/Orakpo or Colt if he decides to watch this game tonite. Someone in coaching staff needs to heads up and don’t let him watch this game by himself alone tonite. Someone needs to be with him if he watch this game.
Cuz, I’m 110% for sure it will bring back the awful memory of his dropped ball when he watch this game tonite. He will blame himself once again that if he had caught that ball, we don’t need to waste our time to watch the outcome of this game tonight.
Keep all sharp object away fom you tonite.

Tough crowd and would require some adjustment.
OU is going with its secondary attack, not to primary receivers.
Trying to set up running game, their key. It may take Tech a while to get that under control.

OU is putting 9-10 people within 5 yards of the LOS.
That is dangerous.
Yes, they have dodged some bullets
As their pass rush loses some steam, Harrell will destroy that scheme.
OU has pressed hard on third down in their half of the field.
We’ll see what transpires when Tech gets close to the Red Zone.
Will be interesting to see TT play from behind tonight.

Anyone else think that if ou dominates,
It becomes purely a head to head debate between Texas and ou? I think that might be a better scenario than a close ou win.
I'm with you on that. I don't care how OU wins as long as they do..
Tech drops out of the debate and the conversation is between OU and UT.
THink about this from Tech's perspective.
If they lose, they go to the Cotton Bowl against Ole Miss.
That's part of it. Also, their last game will be on ESPN the OCHO against Baylor
And Texas will have the stage to themselves on Thanksgiving night. They will drop below OU and UT in the polls and won’t have enough time to get back into the Top 4. UT only fell to #4. OU, when we beat them, fell to #5. Tech, will fall behind Alabama, UT, OU, Florida, USC, and maybe even F’n Penn State.

What if OU blows out Tech (holds serve from where they are now). Tech, as I said earlier could find themselves at 6-8 in the rankings tomorrow. OU loses to Oklahoma State at Stillwater. I'd rather you just say thank you and went on your way.

Stoops, classy?

How do you look impressive to voters?
I dunno, take the top game of the week against the #2 team in the nation and hang 42 on them in a half?
That should do it.

Tech will plummet

Leach's worst moments.
“We never got them settled down…it’s disappointing.”
This is way beyond disappointment.
What I take from this...
It is hard to go on the road against a top level opponent. Especially in conference. One team at the top of the Big 12 has shown the ability to hang on the road. That team is the Texas Motherfuckin Longhorns.
God, we should've beat these guys

Awesome.
Almost 700 comments. Only one dude posting in all caps, only one dude with weak mispelling smack against 3 posters, and only one dude calling out our own players on a bye week.
Nice trifecta.

enough of that nonsense. we lost. it was 3 weeks ago. let it go.
we still have many opportunities to go to the title game. gideon is a damn fine player.
GET THEM COWBOYS TO BED EARLY EACH NIGHT THIS WEEK ....
… AND MAKE SURE THEY EAT THEIR WHEATIES EVERY MORNING.
they'll be ready...
IT’S DIVISION ONE FOOTBALL! IT’S THE BIG TWELVE!
Hold on though
If OK State beats Oklahoma, then the Big 12 South becomes a 2 way tie again, and Tech would win the tiebreaker over Texas… right?
"Stats are for losers, I like winning games."
by SuperBentley on Nov 22, 2008 9:04 PM CST up reply actions
Wrong.
Head to head is the first tie breaker. TTech would go if there are only 2 1 loss teams in the south.
by BoddickerIsClutch on Nov 22, 2008 9:07 PM CST up reply actions
Yeah, but...
…they would have way too much ground to make up in the polls. If the rout holds, Tech is eliminated from all Miami discussions (barring a series of upsets like A&M over Texas, UCLA over USC, etc.) even if they can still win the Big XII.

hporter...
Learn how to use proper typing grammar. Which DOES NOT INCLUDE ALL CAPS.

Silver linings at halftime
Assuming the rout continues:
(1) This completely eliminates Tech from the discussion of who’s the best team in the three-way tiebreak situation. A double-digit victory on a neutral filed just became that much more powerful.
(2) I think it is inconceivable that Tech wouldn’t drop behind just us, but USC and Penn State as well. In the event that OU loses to OSU, and Tech subsequently beats Mizzou, no way they leap us AND USC AND PSU to get to Miami. In other words, I think an OSU victory over OU clinches a championship game berth for us (assuming we beat A&M).
the bcs pundits are gonna be hella pissed
sending a team that didn’t win it’s conference to the title game again
And be replaced by who?
Another team (USC?) that didn’t win its conference?

wow, that's pretty much what I just said in the 2nd half open thread.
