More Media Support from Talking Heads
The total is now 2 outspoken ESPN talking heads that are firmly in Texas' corner on the BCS rankings. Earlier Colin Cowherd jumped on the Horns bandwagon and now this from Mel Kiper on this morning's Mike and Mike:
1. Basically, everyone of the Big 12 Powerhouses have held serve on home field with the exception of Missouri who lost to Okie Lite. (Is Mizzou a Big 12 Power or just the best team from the North Division?)
2. What distinguished Texas is that they beat Oklahoma on a neutral field by double digit points. No other team can make this claim.
3. If Oklahoma goes ahead of Texas, it is taking a giant step backwards from the results on the field. The game in Dallas was the key, and all else is just a beauty contest.
Keep talking Mel.

I've always liked Mel
I may not always agree with his take, but he’s at least educated in his opinion. He’s one of the few that takes the time to actually analyze what he’s talking about before spouting off.

amen
if the best case scenario happens, the computers will keep us number 2 and there is no way OU jumps us. period. i have analyzed the space between us and tech, alabama, ou, and florida. and when all games have been played a few coaches will change their vote
moving texas above ou. and we all know how Mack can lobby!!lol
he will earn every penny of his salary again, pull even at 6-6 with OU next year and will
win 2 more NCs b4 Boom takes over!!
ou 34 tech 31
texas 41 misery 21 Miami in January ( i cannot afford to go so the blessed that can,
know my heart is there in the stands) i just hope we can win!!

Computers
Texas has been so strong in the computers this year.. some years they seem to like certain teams. It reminds me of the year OU lost to K-State in the Big XII championship and the computers still loved OU. If you add 2 OU wins and the 1 Texas win to the Colley Matrix hypothetical rankings, Texas still has a healthy lead. Lots of variables there of course with all their opponents either winning or losing, and Colley has been the friendliest to Texas I think. Florida is much more likely to pass the Horns in that scenario by beating The Citadel and Florida State.
The catch-22 also is that if OU does win out, that helps Texas slightly in the computers since they DID beat OU. The wins for each against OSU would lose a little luster since OSU would fall to close to 16-20 in the computers most likely. In this scenario, two best wins for Texas would be against #2/3 OU and maybe #10/11 Mizzou where OU’s would be against #5/6 Tech and #12/#13 TCU. Both of OU’s were at home of course.
The body of work argument (and how they did it) has to be with Texas right now. But if OU whips Tech and OSU both by double-digits, we have no shot and no argument. The humans will kill us in the polls.

The Ace
Theres lots of reasons to believe that OU could (and with regular voter logic… should) move ahead of us in the human polls… But when it comes down to voters making a final decision that they know will have an impact, we have the ultimate trump card argument: We Beat Their Ass On A Neural Field.
There is plenty of show- well, we beat common team Z by 34, they won by 42, etc, etc, but Mel’s take on this will really resonate if, and hopefully when, it comes time to ordinally rank the big 12 south.

Remember something, folks
Talking heads are NOT PAID to be right, just to talk. Having facts or fact-based opinions helps, but talkings heads are paid to look good, not foul up what’s written on the tele-prompter and, in case I forgot to say it, talk.
Some are actually pretty sharp. Some have lots of unused space between the ears.

True, but...
the point here is that they’re talking. The more they talk, the more it becomes the conventional wisdom that Texas should be above OU. And if there’s one thing voters operate according to, it’s conventional wisdom.

Agreed, BZ
Maybe some of the orange-loving high rollers can buy time to show a few Texas-OU highlights (Ship’s KO return, OGB’s breakaway, crying kid photo)

Pat Forde, too
I read a chat with him in the middle of this week (I tried to find it, but didn’t see it posted on the CFB page right now) and he was completely in agreement regarding Texas staying ahead of OU. Let’s hope this seeps into the psyche of voting coaches and the Harris poll folks. But first, we gotta take care of Aggy in deciding fashion after OU hopefully prevails.
