Why Texas will play for the Big XII title
We've all rehashed and discussed endlessly the different scenarios and possibilities for Texas making it to the BIg XII championship game. I've probably read every post on it by BZ and PB twice. At first, entertaining such thoughts seemed optimistic, if not delusional.
But now, even after the Oklahoma blowout of Texas Tech, I feel that it is extremely likely that voters will put Texas ahead of Oklahoma in the final poll, no optimism needed, and here is why... (No, not a single drop of liquor in this body.)
Texas beat Oklahoma on a neutral field. The punditry will begin to chant it, and it will roll through the collective (un)consciousness as the definitive conclusion to the debate. Even if Oklahoma passes Texas in the Coaches and / or the Harris poll this week, if (when) Texas takes care of business against A&M, when the votes really matter and the dialogue heats up (which will be next Saturday, not this Saturday), the votes will roll in for Texas, enough to edge out Oklahoma and give us the BCS tiebreak needed to take that trip to Kansas City.
Here on BON, we're just preaching to the choir when it comes to this stuff. But come next Saturday evening, the biggest story in college football will be, "Texas or Oklahoma?" The bigger the story it is, the better it bodes for the Horns. And no doubt, it will be everywhere. It will be oozing out of radios, televisions, blogs, water coolers, etc. It's going to be the single most interesting and important headline in football, and there will be no escaping it. Everyone knows it will determine who will eventually play for the national title, so everyone will be debating it. And it will come down to this, once again: Texas beat Oklahoma on a neutral field.
Do you go with the "hotter" team (consensus Oklahoma), or do you go with the results?
Because of the importance of this vote, enough neurons will be firing in enough voter brains to secure the Longhorns what they have earned:
The opportunity to play for the Big XII title.
(And yes, if the voters prove me wrong... what can I say? I'm an optimist.)
Man, I'm such a homer. But to me, this appears to be the most likely (and no doubt satisfactory) unfoldment.
Hook 'em.

If Bedlam is ugly,
Texas beats down aTm impressively and OU only moves up to fourth then I think we go. Of course if Baylor upsets Tech in the final seconds then it doesn’t matter what OU does to Ok State we can relax knowing that we’ll be playing Mizzou again.
Why Texas will play for the national title (just having a little fun!)
Florida loses to Florida State (not so far-fetched – FSU are playing at home, and did you see what their D did to Maryland yesterday?)
Florida then beats Alabama in the SEC CCG.
Texas beats aTm.
Land Thieves beat Cowboys.
Whichever team goes to Big XII CCG (doesn’t matter in this scenario) beats Missouri.
Final BCS standings:
- OU or Texas
- Texas or OU
- USC
- Utah
In this case, isn’t the BCS required to give us a rematch of the RRS?
The other fun scenario to play with is the Pac 10. If Oregon State beats Oregon (not such a big stretch, they are at home) then they go to the Rose Bowl. So where does USC end up? Would the Fiesta take them with its first compensation pick? Could the Fiesta end up with USC vs. Utah?

i think if this were the case
the human voters would go out of their way so that a rematch doesnt occur and probably try and bump usc (undeservedly) up enough to face whichever big 12 team is #1. depends how badly people want to see a rematch i think.
I don't think there's quite this bias
In the OSU-Michigan case, there was concern about a rematch happening so quickly.
It also would have been a rematch of a game that wasn’t anything close to an instant classic. Not that it was a bad game — it’s just that it was an otherwise-forgettable game only remembered because it was a 1-2 game.
If a Texas-OU game looked like a possibility, I think voters would remember how good that game was more so than try and fix the rankings to avoid the rematch.

Not so fast! the year ohio state played florida, florida was only .01 or something tiny in front of michigan which would have been a rematch of a game that had JUST been played. So I think the voters stay pretty true to whatever it is that they believe is right regardless of matchup implications.
dellusional
if you think UT is going to play for the conf. champ. I’m rooting for okie state over the sooners because I would rather see tech play in the conference champ than owho
I know UT is ahead of ou right now in the polls but read the article on yahoo, they are so close together that a win at okie state gurantee’s ou will jump TEXAS in the polls, just so frustrating a year UT beats ou and ou still ends up on top. HOOK’EM HORNS!!!!!!
