Stoops, Leach & voting
So here comes the political whining by Poops..... "Now we're in the mix with everybody and, with the way we played, you'd think ahead," Stoops said. "If you can't move us in front of Texas because they beat us, then you have to keep Texas Tech in front of Texas. If it's logical for one, it's logical for the other."
The entire article can be found at: : http://ncaafootball.fanhouse.com/2008/11/23/sunday-hangover-ou-oh-yeah/
If Stoops is saying he wants the polls to reflect Tech, then Texas, then OU......I could probably live with that. If he's going to put Tech before Texas, then OU is bringing up the rear. (Yes, pun intended.)
Leach said he voted for OU over Texas. Gee, there's a shocker coming from a Poops cronie. Any doubt Chuck Long, Mike Stoops, and his other fat ass...er, cronie Mangino voted for OU?!?!
Mack won't run up the score and Mack will publicly talk about the faults of the system, but won't technically "lobby" for Texas to be ahead of OU.
If OU wiggles its way into Miami, I'm going to puke. Can you imagine the Sooner fans? ("You - Texas - beat us and we still are better than you.")

Not trying to stir anything up here
But I have read a lot of you guys thinking we ran the score up last night against Tech and I am just wondering, Why do you think that? Again I am not trying to get in any screaming match or anything, I am just curious.
Also to address the voting thing, nothing is stopping Mack Brown from putting Texas a 1 and OU at 25 or even off his ballot next week. I am not saying he would do that but nothing is stopping him from doing it if he wanted to.

Mack has class, Stoops don't.
thats why mack won’t put OU “off his ballot”.
As for “running up the score”, you were up 65-14, had your first team in on tech’s 6 yard line, and were throwing it into the endzone.

I never said Mack didn't have class
I’m just saying there is nothing that would stop him from doing that. On your point about Stoops not having class, you only think that because you are a Texas fan, so whatever.
Also, Bradford was out of the game with like 12 minutes to go. It was SR. night so why not let the SR’s who played hard for their whole career by letting them play the game. We had our third string running back in, in addition to all but one backup lineman. Halzle is a senior and on that drive he threw a total of 4 times, when we got to the 6 yard line, Halzle threw it 1 time. The other 4 plays were runs up the middle with our third string back.

Yeah but a FG there
And the score is even worse. I am not 100% sure but the play they called was a dive into the middle of the pile on that 4th down play. I know Tech would have done the same had the shoe been on the other foot and probably you guys too.

Haha, I wouldn't expect anything less.
But you do see where I am coming from on that.
I actually am rooting for a rematch with you in the National Championship game. As wild as this season has been, it is only fitting the two best teams play one last time for it all.

So are you saying?
Florida’s loss is better than OU’s loss?

Also
Why punish OU for losing to a far superior team than Florida did?
If Florida can get all the love for being the “team playing the best right now” (I think they are just beating very subpar SEC teams) why can’t OU who has put 60+ points in the past 3 games and 58 in another?

Texas and OU are the best 2 teams
and florida has an argument. if florida state wins this week then we can go ahead and start preparing for cotton bowl rematch.
oh, and the combination of throwing to iglesias in the end zone from the 5 yard line from a 4WR set up 65-21and the quote about “we oughtta be at the top of the heap with the way we played” make it pretty clear he was trying to run it up.

That was on first and goal when they threw that.
Just a senior backup throwing to another senior on senior day/night :-).
The next 3 plays were runs up the gut with our 3rd string running back though.
Plus I am sure Mack has never put an extra TD on the board before ;-)

Mike Leach...
probably voted OU ahead of Texas because he’s played both teams and one beat the shit out of him and one didn’t. Why would anyone be surprised that Leach thinks OU is a better team given the outcome of his games against OU and Texas?
by Skin Patrol on Nov 23, 2008 11:32 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
He's right.
guys, I’m as big of a horns fan as the next guy but leach has every reason to vote OU over us. We came out flat and got it handed to us for the first 2 1/2 quarters against his team. OU came out and pounded them in a fasion similar to what we should have done. I have no problem at all with OU being as high as #1 on Leach’s ballot

My only issue
with the OU score was the 66-yd bomb they threw with a minute left in the third already up 52-14. I get running the offense and the defense is supposed to stop you, but that was a bit extreme to me. If it had been a 15 yd in route that the guy turned into a 66 yd play, that’s one thing. But going up top with that kind of lead with that amount of time left was a bit harsh. But hey, it is what it is. Tech isn’t exactly known for backing off the gas pedal in blowouts so I don’t think our fans have a lot to complain about.
Stoops was going for style points. And he got them in spades. Would Mack have done that? Doubtful, but I don’t attribute that to class, I attribute that to differing philosophy. One looks better than the other, but it doesn’t make one of them wrong.
