Tech should win tie-breaker
I don't think we will convince OU fans that Tech is out of the discussion in terms of National Title game. I don't think voters will put a team that lost by 44pts in the title game this year. In that scenario, the only fair thing would be to put USC in there b/c we don't deserve to vault Tech either since they beat us. It pains me to say that as a Texas fan but we shouldn't vault Tech in that scenario because they deserve to belong in the Texas v. OU v. Tech discussion;
So, if OU wants to bring Tech back into the discussion, lets bring them back. So, I posted a question on their board on why Tech doesn't deserve to win the tie-breaker? Other than the fact that they have a poor non-conference schedule, their 2 wins came at home and they lost by 44pts on the road.
I think OU fans are also quick to dismiss Tech's merits to win the tie-breaker unless they lose to OSU.
So, to be fair to Texas and OU, I have elected to root for Tech to be the highest ranked BCS team if we all end up with one loss. It doesn't matter that Tech has absolutely no chance to win the tie-breaker but let's include them anyway because that is only fair.
I think that would be way more fun to see a team you beat by 44pts at home win the tie-breaker over you.. maybe then they can share our pain to see a team you beat by 10 on a NEUTRAL field argue that a team that absolutely has no shot to win a tie-breaker scenario should be involvded in determining the tie-breaker scenario.
On a serious note, I have no problem involving Tech in the discussion if they actually have any chance to be ranked the highest in BCS. I agree that they have a chance to go to the BIG 12 title if OSU beats OU and maybe even the National title game. BUT they have absolutely no chance to win a tie-breaker scenario if Texas, OU and Tech win next week and end up with one loss.

Seriously, rooting for Tech?
Are you seriously saying you are backing Tech instead of UT. Are you even a longhorn fan? And to even try to put USC in the conversation, they probably aren’t going to win their own conference which is crap in comparison to the BIG 12 … really man? I am not sure how to respond to this because I can’t tell if you were joking or being serious at any point during this post.
All I know is that no one deserves to be even remotely considered to play in the national championship game after getting it handed to them like Tech did. Honestly I couldn’t find myself supporting Tech to go to the national championship game even if they won the BIG 12 championship. I think they would probably have a melt down like they did against OU and embarrass the conference … like OU has done in the past couple of years with their BCS excursions. In my opinion, the national championship pictures should not include any other teams besides Texas, OU, Florida, Alabama, and if three of those teams have 2 loses, USC. I know someone could make a argument for Tech, but all the teams that are listed above lost with dignity in close games (minus Alabama of course). Yeah Tech beat us, but they should’ve beat us a lot worse with the way we played and we almost beat them even with that.
So to conclude, I obviously won’t be rooting for Tech at all, in fact we should be rooting against them. Sick’em Bears baby!

In my opnion
if OU loses and Texas Tech wins the Big-12 Championship, they should go the NC. A 12-1 Texas Tech team should absolutely go in front of an 11-1 Texas team. Head-to-head counts when comparing two teams with identical records (which we won’t have in the above hypo, anyways). If OU is out of the discussion, why is our head-to-head suddenly irrelevant? The argument, perhaps the strongest one, in favor of Texas going to the Big-12 title game in the case of a three-way-tie is that Texas Tech is essentially out of it. Well… if OU is out of it, in virtue of losing, then shouldn’t Tech be in a similar spot relative toTexas?

No, they shouldn't
Texas probably shouldn’t either. If the Red Raiders win the Big 12, a team like Penn St. is going. Tech is out of the national title discussion unless teams start biting the dust in unbelievable fashion the next two weeks.
In the case of a three way tie, Texas Tech is out. In the national title picture, Tech is out. Tech’s highest goal is now to hope for an OU loss, beat Baylor, and to win the Big 12 over Missouri.

Texas Tech deserves the Cotton Bowl after that crap I saw on Saturday night.

Re:
I was kidding about rooting for Tech, hopefully the Bears can pull off the shocker and we can end this discussion. However, if OSU does beat OU, and Tech goes on to win the BIG 12 then I think either USC or Penn St should play the SEC winner in the NC game; It is painful to say this but a 12-1 Tech team with a head to head win over Texas should be ranked over Texas. Also, it would be unfair to say otherwise because that is why we should be ranked over OU b/c of the head to head. I know Tech got whipped but Head to Head always prevails.

I also
think that unless a confluence of absolutely unlikely events happen, that Tech is out of the national title hunt. Simple math. We dropped too far after the OU loss. If we do make the conf title game and win, we’ll get the BCS bid and that will be great for Tech and the conference. People all over the country always like to see new faces in big games.
But there is the small issue of Utah, USC and the Fla/Alabama winner with regards to the national title. We’d have to jump all of them to reach the title game. Baylor does nothing for our strength of schedule and the human component isn’t enough to vault us over those teams to the top two. Just the lay of the land from someone trying to be semi-realistic and pragmatic about this. Don’t agree with it, but that’s the silly system we’re forced to live with.
But I still stand by my thought that not winning the conference title should disqualify any team from playing for a national championship. There are always several fantastic teams who will have won their conference that would make for a compelling and fair national title game.
What I think happens…OU, Tech and Texas all win this week. Texas plays for the conference title. Then we’ll see where everything shakes out from there. I have doubts that OU would be able to make up the .6 in the average. If they do, well, then they deserve to go to the conf championship because that’s the rule. Simple as that. If that happens, UT shouldn’t have any argument for going to the national title game. Inverse applies to OU…should UT advance to the conf title game, OU should be out of the discussion entirely.

YOUR NUTS!
So, you want to put USC in after getting whipped by Oregon State? The only quality win USC has is against an overrated Ohio State team. C’mon man!
Texas was 1 play/1second away from winning in Lubbock, after playing a 4 game stretch against top 10-11 teams.
Texas beat ou by 10 points on a neutral field.
Texas Tech won’t play in the NC game even if they find a way to play in the Big 12 title game. I don’t want the Big 12 to be embarrassed like the Big 10., and that is what would happen if TT played in the NC game.

You cant have your cake and eat it both
If i was a Tech fan i would be upset about them being completely dismissed. They should start a 39-33 campaign!
But if you want to bend the rules and throw out Tech because of its poor performance then you are compelled to throw OU up above Texas because of their great performance!
